A work about a dystopian world with perhaps the best world-building in the anime industry, that's Shinsekai Yori.
The development of the plot shows us important aspects when it comes to writing a good dystopia, it gives you the necessary clues to be able to consider an answer to the mysteries and doubts that are thrown at us through the characters as they explore and reflect on where they live. By having this power, the protagonist group presented to us in the first few episodes and their experiences showing us what this world is like and why it ended up this way with little bits and
...
pieces, so that the viewer can fill in those gaps by imagining with the information exposed or, as happens in the later episodes, flip some concepts to surprise you and give you more about truly what this world is all about.
The exploration of the protagonist and her development is very good, because through her we can reflect and think about everything that happened. The antagonist is also amazing, they give us reasons that make the play in general, a world of greys, no one is good or bad, everyone has their own interests and perspectives, so the way the antagonist force acts and reasons in this story makes the viewer question whether it is justified or not.
In the technical aspects where the anime falters, that happens when you give more importance to what generates more income, but it's much worse (cof cof SAO cof cof), the direction is excellent, the OST is impressive, the voice acting is up to par, and as I said the consistency in the quality of the animation is weak, because it looks stiff in some episodes, but fluid in others.
9/10, more than recommended, excellent anime and the best that has made the studio of robots that is A1-Pictures.

Yasuhiro Yoshiura is a writer and director where mostly his concepts are science fiction, now, one of his earliest works (excluding the stuff he did independently) is a very good comedy/sci-fi/drama about mostly androids.
The story unfolds in different situations about androids and their "human" attitudes in a café, exploring more the relationship between being programmed and being able to express oneself with feelings. Especially the last episode shows more about this with one of the main characters and his former android.
On technical aspects, there is a recurrence in Yoshiura's works that he uses a lot of digital (clearly he has a good sense here), with
...
the 3D camera being able to give shots that by hand would be more complex to do, the visual effects and other related works very well, the OST is delightful, the voice performances are amazing and the direction uff, this guy has a lot of potential.
8/10, has flaws that do not make this work to be a masterpiece or reach an excellence, clearly I recommend it and also explore what this guy has done, because for me he has a lot of potential, it just seems currently that he reached his ceiling of talent.

I want to stress at the outset that I have neither watched the Kyoani series nor played the visual novel. This film is like all good anime from the 2000s, not totally, but it is enjoyable as a drama, the use of parallelism with a legend seems to me a very good concept, because it can explore themes such as loneliness, love, human connection, and so on.
The story about a boy travelling aimlessly while a girl with an unknown illness, at the same time we are told about a legend about a winged woman where she was denied freedom, all in a serious tone
...
that can take a break with moments of "comedy" or "humour", it develops with a strange rhythm for me, it goes well, however, suddenly it goes fast with some things and makes it not have a big impact for the viewer, neither to lengthen the scenes too much, but give it an efficient time. It all ends in a symbolic way and closes the character arc of the boy and girl.
The technical aspects are fine, the direction was sometimes "experimental" about it with some shots, the rest like the voice acting works, the sound is between is perfect and others like it lacks an audio track or something, the OST mostly silent and the songs are good.
6/10 more than recommended, I could call this film as "something to watch on a Sunday morning or a Friday afternoon".

This anime was recommended to me by a friend of mine who has mixed tastes in everything, well that's what happened to me watching this. From the start I'll say that I think it's decent if you turn your brain off.
The concept of this story is a "survival game" or as I call a "bloody children's game", mainly the protagonist group is rubbish everywhere you look, each one is given the laziest form of exposition or information about them, with a freeze frame having things written about what they are like, weaknesses and so on. Now scattering one by one, the protagonist is an
...
edgelord that the anime tries to make him look like he's a genius who's like a thousand steps ahead of the others and also a weird altruism with his friends, the one with glasses at first it's obvious they want, you the viewer, to hate him, but then he's the good guy, what a great subversion! (note my sarcasm) Continuing the busty one is so passive and uninteresting that she is only used for two things: fanservice and being a victim, the blond is so flat that I could only say that everything that happens to him doesn't matter and finally the good girl, but she's not, this chick has an empty head, I'll just say that.
Talking about the plot development, it goes in a strange way, because they quickly reveal information that I guess must be important, however, it just remains in "Ah! So this is how it is", there are no noticeable changes, leaving with that open ending, plus they use the worst kind of exposition, making the characters explain things that they ALREADY KNOW.
The technical aspects are a rollercoaster, because visually it's generic (seeing what studio made it, I'm not surprised), the OST is meh, the voice acting works, like a towel in a bathroom, the direction is awful and why does it sometimes look stiff?
6/10 I know this score contradicts everything I wrote, but think of it as an oxymoron and as I said at the beginning, if you turn off your brain you'll find it decent.

Right from the start I will say that it seems mediocre to me to make a "second" version of a film to put in two new scenes completely in 3D/CGI and re-record almost all the dialogue just to release it, which, in my opinion, is a cashgrab.
The story is the same, as well as other things, but intrusively putting in 3D objects makes it look weird.
The positives are: everything that makes the first version excellent and some new effects that do complement each other efficiently.
Negatives: All the new computer-generated stuff.
5/10 mediocre, cashgrab and unnecessary. I don't recommend it and if out of curiosity you want

From the beginning I will say that this is the best anime slice of life I have ever seen. Ambiguity is a resource that, when used well, can leave the viewer pondering on a subject, in Haibane Renmei we are given from the beginning the doubt if the place where our protagonist falls and is "born" from the cocoon is real or mystical, out of our perception. As the chapters progress, we are shown how the people who have head rings and wings, as if they were angels, are managed and live, giving also that their names mean something, the viewer may think that this
...
is possibly related to the death of the characters, because one interpretation of that walled place is purgatory.
Now for how the story develops, reaching the last chapters, Reki is explored more and what it means for her to be able to "go to heaven", as one of the characters (Kuu) manages to do so, we are shown that she is a rebel since she arrived. Rakka tries to understand her, but Reki locks herself in literally and metaphorically, it all ends with Rakka making her interpret the meaning of her name being positive as opposed to the first time where it was all pointed to negative.
On the technical aspects, for a studio like Radix (let's just say they don't have a good pool of anime), they did an efficient job. The direction was excellent showing the beauty of the good and bad of that place, as well as the flow of the scenes.
My conclusion would be that this anime explores diverse themes that revolve around one main one: suicide. Giving it a respectful and mature exploration through its characters, being that there is not technically a linear story it manages to maintain a base of everything. 9/10 completely recommended, it doesn't bore you as it hooks you by that place and the people that inhabit it, as well as the mystery around it.
