Abberations/Oddities are prevalent in both series', however only the Monogatari series refers to them as such. There are similarities in the way these supernatural occurances take place, which is to say they are always directly related to humans in some way. The stories behind these are of course different between the two. There are also clear similarities in some of the main characters. Mayoi and Ayu for instance are quite similar in the way they "work" and interact with the main character. Monogatari is a lot more dialog-based than Kanon though, as you might expect, and Kanon is more emotional. In terms of animation and visuals, I'd say Monogatari easily rivals some of the most popular shows of today, despite being made ages ago, while Kanon is pretty much the same as any other Kyoani show from the time, visually.

they're similar in terms of the main characters and their predicaments. Violet wants to find out what love means and is working as an auto memory doll as she strives toward finding out, while Vivy wants to know what it means to sing with your heart, and ends up in an action packed rescue-the-world-mission while still holding on to her inner aspiration. Both Violet and Vivy have similar personalities as well, wether it's a result of being raised as a war-machine, or just plain being an AI-driven robot. In short terms, they both encapsulate the adventures of a peculiar female protagonist in the persuit of some sort of emotion, while also being action packed. What makes this comparison interesting is that Violet Evergarden takes place in a victorian-esque time period, while Vivy is more like a future dystopia with advanced technology and AI's in all corners of society.
