I have never wrote a review for an anime and didn't really plan to, but this piece of media's quality of production and writing contradict between each other so much that I just couldnt stop myself from trying to vent.
The animation by Actas and Bandai Namco Pictures is insane, I am giving it a 5 just because of the animation, if it wasnt as good as it is it would definetly be a 4. Special effects, voice acting, shadows and light usage, as well as very good quality of choreography. Also very good opening and ed, I was like: Yeah, the start is pretty basic
...
but lets see what they got.
And oh boy I was dissapointed.
This is one of those full of cliche shounen animes that is so unoriginal that I sighed every minute of these 4 episodes.
MC is a non-talented but nonetheless overpowerpowered protagonist? Very original.
MC has a childhood friend who he has made a promise to catch up to so that he puts it all to graduate from the academy? This one is so overused everywhere that its just stupid.
MC has a classmate girl who has a crush on him just because he's... kind? Wow, that was is such an interesting character that everyone totally wont get annoyed at and will definetly not ignore later on.
MC is being bullied to the maximum just because he's untalented. Well well well, certainly never heard of that before. To be honest hes such a whimp that I would bully him too, not because I want to assert myself like those cliche bullies, but just cuz hes annoying as hell.
This is just if Harry Potter was made in Japan, he even gets a familiar that... brings nothing to the story? The author added that cat in just because, apparently. Oh yeah, it does that one thing by bringing the girl that has a crush on him to throw a sword to our MC so that he immediately makes a comeback in a fight that he was going to lose. Certainly an important feature. Why didnt he just take the sword with him from the start...?
Theres this whole end of the world threat that is hanging like a Damocles Sword on this world (literally, they even got this whole fake sky barrier and everything), and of course the most powerful mages that exist are just stupid dimwits who are like: Oh yeah we do see potential in this guy and he certainly would help us if we let him into our society but no! Hes a barbarian! How can we do this even though the fate of the world depends on all of us?! Damn, full of reason, arent we?
Oh yeah, we also get hit by a tournament arc that is I bet going to last to like 4-5 episodes alone, I didnt further than episode 4 but I get the feeling that it will be like that. I stopped immediately after that because you just cant get even more cliche than that.
I would definetly watch this if I was 10 years old. Otherwise not recommended.
