Just a regular medical student who loves watching anime. I was formally introduced to the anime world with Aishiteruze Baby which really got me hooked since it showed me that anime was more than just the mainstream shounen that is so popular nowadays. From then on, I've spent the last 3 years watching anime and reading manga and loving every minute of it.
****If you are interested in an anime, I do have mini reviews for most of the anime in my list. Simply go to my list, select more, and you should be able to read the comments (mini review) that I have written for the anime****
I recognize five different components to rating anime: story, art, sound, characters, and enjoyment, though I do not think they should all be rated equally when rating an anime. So my way of rating is as follows:
Characters*5 + Story*4 + Enjoyment*3 + Sound*2 + Art*1, divided by 15 for an overall score. (each individual category is scored from 0-10).
Character score is based on how unique each character is (I'm not a fan of creating a cast of characters meant to fit some kind of stereotype, as is commonly seen in harem anime), how well that character develops throughout the anime/manga, and how well character relationships are established and/or conveyed.
Story score is based on how consistent the plot of a story is, how well that plot is executed, and how sidetracked the anime/manga gets with the plot (in my opinion, causes a deviation of overall interest in the plot), and more than anything, how well the themes are constructed and conveyed.
**Side Note** Comedy anime are an exception to the rule on story as they are not meant to have overarching plots. Because of that, I rate the comedy anime "story" as how unique/interesting each episode is.
Enjoyment score is simply how much I enjoyed the show (which is usually conveyed in the character/story scores as I find enjoyment in those). In regards to comedy anime, the score can be higher than characters/story depending on how much I laughed.
Sound score is based on how well the background music of the anime complements the scenes. I also consider how good the OP and ED is.
Art score is lowest because I don't think that bad art should be a reason to rate an anime lowly (there are plenty of anime out there that have terrible art compared to now but awesome characters and stories). Character designs, character motions, and background art are all considered when rating the art.
