First of all, I would like to mention that this will serve as my review of both Code Geass R1 and R2. I decided to review the whole series as a whole instead of the seasons separately and my scores are based on considering both seasons. The best way to introduce Code Geass is simply to call it Death Note with mechs (though not literally). You can clearly see that Code Geass is one of the most recommended anime for Death Note fans and visa-versa. Code Geass has all the intelligence, well craft plans and strategies shown in Death Note, but applied to a
...
military formula.
Story: 9
Let’s get the negatives out of the way.. My complaints on the story are largely based on fillers like the infamous cat episode. Don’t bother watching the fillers because they really kill the mood of the anime and aren’t even slightly funny. There is also a significant amount of fanservice during these episodes (and sometimes even in the main episodes) that distracts from full immersion but it’s not too excessive that the anime because a “high school of the dead with mechs” anime. In the end, I did not find that these issues detract from how good the story really is.
When a Code Geass episode is not a pointless filler and following the main story, it’s simply awesome The world is well crafted and possibly inspired by George Orwell’s 1984, but in a future setting. Lelouch Lamperouge is an exiled prince of the Holy Brittanian Empire that vows revenge against the emperor and creates an insurgent organization known as the Black Knights whose goal is to destroy the Empire. He does this with the help of Geass, a power that lets him control people completely. The story is very interesting to watch as Lelouch dismantles the empire on battle at a time and grows a strong reputation in Japan (area 11). The tension in this show can only matched by Death Notea’s as the viewer sees Lelouch’s plans unravel. The story has excellent build up, despite the fact that the first episode was a bit too fast paced and the anime struggles to easy the viewer into the world. However, once you’ve been sucked in it’ll be hard for you to escape the magic :D
The Art and Animation: 9
My major complaint with the art is the character design. At first they looked like stretched pieces of spaghetti to me, but I got used to it quickly enough. In the end, the art and animation are superb. The environments are beautiful and there is clear attention to detail, the mechs look great, the animations are smooth and precise, etc. Basically, all the things you expect from a very well animated anime will be present here. It should not disappoint.
Sound: 8
Soundtrack is awesome and played well. I didn’t like most of the opening themes after the intial one and hated all the ending themes. However, I will still give it an 8 due to the fact that the soundtrack within the anime (outside of OPs/ED) are fantastic and the voice acting is great in both the sub and the dub. Furthermore, all the sound effects sound as expected and I did not kill immersion.
Characters: 8
Lelouche is easily the best character in this show. All the other characters are interesting, but some are downright annoying. I deeply hated Suzaku’s idiotic view of the world and his hypocrisy sickened me. Nina was also extremely annoying so thank god she didn’t get too much screen time. The student council members are sometimes annoying and sometimes great depending on the episode. I would rank them as below average slice of life characters. Well, that basically sums up all the “meh” or poor characters in this show. The rest are fantastic and trust me, there are a TON of fantastic characters in this show.
Enjoyment: 9
The fillers sometimes ruined the experience, but I would consider Code Geass as one of the most entertaining anime’s I have ever seen. Its main story is exciting with an excellent protagonist; it has a cool setting, awesome mecha action and finally, some of the best tension and suspense in anime. If there is one thing Code Geass can do, it’s entertain an audience.
Overall: 9
+ excellent story
+ cool and well developed setting
+ Excellent protagonist and mostly great supporting characters
+ some of the best tension and suspense in anime
+ Awesome soundtrack
-- Fillers
-- Fan service
-- Some bad and annoying characters

Let me say that I could not force myself to finish FLCL. I came to this anime due to the hype and I tried to like it, but after 3 episodes of total boredom and being totally lost every single moment of the anime I simply gave up. FLCL is the first anime I have completely dropped. I simply do not want to force myself to watch an anime that doesn't entertain me. Outside of the art and a decent soundtrack, this anime is one of the worst I ever seen. Below is the breakdown:
Story: 3
The story in this anime makes no sense. Infact, I
...
suggest you don't even try to understand it if you want to enjoy the anime because it will reveal just how dreadful this anime is when you fail to get it. The plot is based on some convoluted garbage about a kid getting hit in the head by a guitar and all of a sudden he starts growing large horns that have robots shooting out of them that start fighting other robots. Yeah, that sounds about right. There was an attempt for a coming of age story but it is hard to appreciate this when the anime is completely random and difficult to follow. It is very difficult (for me, it was often impossible) to keep track of what the hell was going on and why the hell it occurred and you start asking yourself "what the fuck am I watching and why am I watching it"?
Art: 10
The art and animation are undeniably top notch. I have found nothing to complain about in this department. The environments look great, characters look great and the animations flow smoothly. High quality art and animation is expected from an OVA and this will not disappoint you.
Sound: 7
The soundtrack in the anime is alright. I would have appreciated an opening theme but that is not too much of a big deal. What caused me to take off points was the fact that the soundtrack was constantly playing and was quite loud. Some points of the anime felt like I was watching an AMV instead of anime. The music was very noticeable and it almost never stopped. I would say that this anime fails to use its soundtrack to increase dramatic effect.
Character: 4
Nothing much to say here. I'm not going to go into detail on their personalities, interests, etc because you could easily find that out yourself on this MAL page. I will simply state my opinion. I found the characters to be quite annoying, whinny, unlikable and completely unrelatable. There are no memorable characters in this anime outside of Haruko, who is only memorable for being completely ridiculous and often disturbing.
Enjoyment: 3
Its truly amazing how this anime was hyped as a glorious masterpiece comedy but when I watched it I didn't even laugh once. This is when I was TRYING to like the anime as well. I came in with expectations and a desire to love this show. I came out totally confused, bored and disgusted by it.
Overall: 4
One of the worst anime's I have ever seen and the first anime that I have dropped. I cannot recommend this show.

Sword of the Stranger is a great exciting action movie that will have you glued to your seat throughout the whole experience. As expected from Bones, the animation is incredible and the entire package comes together to provide one of the best anime movies ever made.
Story: 7.5
The story is probably the worst part of this anime. That is not to say it is bad, it is just nothing special. A samurai saves a child from those who are hunting him and the anime kicks off from there focusing on themes such as companionship and loyalty. The plot is a rather generic "king wants immortality
...
by sacrifice" story but it still remains enjoyable despite not being fully impressive. However, this anime definitely gets a bonus for having no fan-service and romance (I hate romance).
Art and Animation: 9
The animation is simply top notch. Its hard to see how it can get better than this. The weather effects are amazingly animated, the fight scenes flow smoothly and are well choreographed. The general attention to detail is completely stunning. Everything from the blood spewing from the characters after they are struck and then sparks caused by clashes of blades show that Bones truly are animation gods. The art can use some work however. The whole anime felt a bit dull and grey looking and some of the characters looked significantly worse than others. However, the general scenery and backgrounds are great.
Sounds: 9
Sometimes I felt like the audio was slightly out of sync but maybe its cause I was watching the dub. Either way, no real issues and its worth mentioning that the movie boasts an excellent soundtrack. The sound effects are flawless as well, with everything sounding as expected.
Characters: 8
The main samurai character and the blonde haired chinese mercenary were the coolest and most epic characters in this anime. The rest are nothing special and just exist for the 2 warriors to show off their awesomeness. The kid got on my nerves as he felt like a spoiled brat. Quite weird for someone who was being raised in a temple. The character development was smooth and soon enough all the main characters became likable. I even grew attached to the dog. However, the supporting characters to the leads were still lacking and were simply there to hack meat and then be meat themselves.
Enjoyment: 10
Despite the criticisms, I can tell you that they are all minor things that wont stop you from enjoying this anime. I considered marking it off to a 9 due to the kid getting on my nerves in the beginning but he redeemed himself by the end and I was glued to my seat throughout the whole show. Absolutely EPIC anime.
Overall: Minor issues hold this anime back from perfection but its still probably the best action anime movie available. Watch it, you wont be disappointed.

I didn't watch the Evangelion anime before starting the movie. Its kind of old and I assumed just watching the movies is good enough for me. The story is interesting and a cool take on mecha anime. The art and sound are good enough to make the show presentable but nothing too special.
The main problem I have with the show is the horrible main protagonist. All he ever did in this whole film is whine and complain on literally anything and everything. Any conversation he has with other characters, anything he dose, anything he thinks about, nothing but whining and complaining comes out. It
...
really enraged me and made it difficult to connect to the characters of the show. Despite that, its a great film and I wouldn't dissuade anyone from seeing it. Just beware of the terrible protagonist. Hopefully he gets better in the next film.
