Dusk Maiden was my absolute favorite anime/manga for 6 years. Like, I stopped watching anime/reading manga for 5 of those, but I would always still recommend Dusk Maiden to everyone. I thought it was the best. I had read the manga maybe three or four times, and watched the anime twice, which is a lot for me.

So, I recently rewatched it during quarantine, and I realized that the anime is just not that good. Like relatively really good (compared to other stuff I have seen), but it just does not do the manga justice. I was like "noooo my fave thing was actually really bad ... this whole time," but then I pulled out my entire set of the manga (which I bought for rly cheap at book off bc nobody knows what this series is and it, again, was my fave) and was like, "imma read this." So I read it, and I was like "OK this is why I love it so much."

The anime lacks the same depth that the manga does, whether it is in the art, the characterization, or the story. Like, ok I love the premise and story, but Teiichi has so little personality in the anime, and Yuuko is often reduced to someone for Teiichi to boob-grab.

So you still have the seven mysteries and everything, the story is good, this is definitely worth watching, but it is interesting to see how I was such a die hard fan of the series that I couldn't see many of its inherent flaws as a 15 year old lol.

10 stars tho I'm not saying this is bad AT ALL its just not as good as the manga lol
