Tokyo Ghoul:re is the sequel to the original Tokyo Ghoul manga and the anime fails on many fronts to capture what makes the manga great.
Story- 3
The story introduces us to Quinx Squad, a group of half human/ half ghouls who work for the CCG to hunt down criminal ghouls.
Having a squad of characters as the typical "main focus" is a nice change from the original series that had Kaneki as our MC. The problem here is that the squad never really gets any time for themselves to feel fleshed out. The source material here is rushed as it is made by none other

than Studio Pierrot. There are too many plotlines at the start of :Re and it sure can make those watching it confused.
With all the info dump that the original source had, the anime sacrifices this in hopes that us the viewers can understand all that happens but it's just not enough. There are many new characters that are introduced and killed off easily, serving no purpose whatsoever. It's because of this that makes the show very hard to recommend, the multiple plot lines hurt it and does the show no favors since much content gets axed.
Animation- 3
Studio Pierrot rarely ever has any sort of show that can be said it has "good animation." Where the first two seasons of TG look ok at best, the production values of :Re are much much lower. From the first episode onward character models are very inconsistent. Much of the anime involves stills and the fights are as bland and cheap with no sort effort to be put in.
Sound- 3
It's ok. OST of the show is nothing great, it does it job at complimenting certain scenes as it needs to. The OP "Asphyxia" by Cö shu Nie is pretty damn nice while ED "HALF" by Ziyoou-vachi is a decent but awkward closer given the content of the series.
Character- 3
Really the only likable new character for me was Saiko. She's just one of those "one dimensional" waifu bait characters. She's cute, lazy, likes to eat and play games. Everyone else besides her, Haise and Shuu are forgettable.
Enjoyment- 8
As horrid of an adaptation this may be i cant deny I liked it. It's hard for me to bash it since i love the original source so much but really the anime couldn't fully kill it. My enjoyment would be a 1000 times higher if it was a actual decent or even good adaptation.
Overall- 3
My personal enjoyment aside, this adaptation is a waste of time. Please do yourself a favor and read the manga. If you are looking for a good story and wonderful character development then you won't find it here as it doesn't exist. The second cour is slated in October and I highly doubt it'll be any better than this under Pierrot's supervision.
