Okay, the TLDR is do not read this Manhwa if you value your time. It is quite literally, all over the place in terms of story and plot. I was recommended this after reading a different Manhwa called Omniscient Readers Viewpoint claiming that both stories took place in the same world. Clarification, 55 chapters in and they are NOT. That doesn’t ruin the score I just figured people should know. But let’s get into a breakdown to better clarify my thoughts. Spoilers ahead!
Story 1/10
You’re going to hear me say this a lot, but the premise of this whole manhwa starts out pretty interesting. The
...
idea of towers sprouting up around the world that need to be beaten RPG style was a cool premise that had a lot of potential. If the entire story took place inside the tower and explored the worldbuilding, consequences, and characters inside I think the score would be a lot higher. Instead, we get a brief introduction to our characters “trauma” which lasts maybe 1 chapter and then he breaks “out” of the tower into basically a fantasy world. And since he technically cleared the tower and faced an unbeatable foe, he is just super OP. This takes place like 5 chapters in or so, and after that the story just focuses on this new world and is a mid-tier world building that gets retconned every 10 chapters or so.
Characters 3/10
What can I say, 1-dimensional and bloated cast. It’s a real shame, again I feel like if they just spent even a fraction of a second exploring the main characters literally MILLIONS of years of trauma in the tower it would be more interesting. And we kind of get a glimpse of that when he faces the 99th floor boss and even less of a taste when he interacts with the female heroine, after realizing she too is human. HOWEVER, THEY LITERALLY JUST WRITE HER OUT OF THE STORY. The best character and arguably the perfect foil to our MC’s stoic, broody nature, and she just POOF, disappears after she is cured of ghoulism. She is instead replaced with an old man who kind of serves as comic relief. Then they start adding other characters who I can literally only describe by their powers. Fire-Guy, water-guy, smart-guy, lighting-guy, ect. And out of ALL these characters lighting-guy is like the only one to have a “backstory” if you can even call it that.
Worldbuilding 4/10
I’m going to skip the parts I touched on in the Story section about the tower and just focus on the world of “Chaos”. This Iseki land is, at first, meant to be the afterlife. Souls come here to live for eternity. They set a bunch of rules in place about how higher beings can’t interact with Chaos, but they retcon this pretty quickly. They also add a place called the “abyss” which holds some life fruit that can return someone to life and that is the ONLY goal of our MC for no reason. The sort of personal reality of “ascenders” or whatever the MC and old man are, is kind of interesting. Seeing the world through your own eyes but it only serves to make our MC look more badass.
Art 8/10
Good art, good on some scenes, wasted on others. In the typical Manhwa art style so nothing to write home about.
Power System 4/10
The power system starts off as an RPG style, video game thing. Characters get XP from killing tower monsters and level up skills and all that. It’s not really explained in depth and is instead exchanged for “Adapters” and “Ascenders” which are basically people who exceed the limits of the RPG leveling system supposedly. However, after clearing the tower you never see this system again and all power relies on basically “magic” or practicing 1 thing for like a million years. Lazy and forgettable.
Alright rant session over if you read this far thanks and good luck. Just don’t want to see anyone waste their time. I mean it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever read so if you have time to waste give it a shot otherwise go read literally anything else!

Hot take, i feel like this series has a score higher than it deserves. The non-spoiler review is, If you're bored and enjoy slice of life were nothing really happens, then give it a read its not super long and it starts out fairly strong with an interesting premise. BUT if you are a romance fan or have certain standards for character development and plot I don't recommend spending your time reading this manga as it falls off pretty hard then stagnates for the rest of its publication.
ANYWAY time for the spoiler breakdown:
PLOT (4/10): Such wasted potential! This manga started out super interesting. What better
...
dramatic premise then hiding secrets from your peers and then bonding over them. HOWEVER, its very quickly apparent that these are not balanced, i mean Hori's "secret" is that she's a good stay-at-home sister? Not very interesting when compared to Miyamura's tats and piercings. All of these builds very natural and in a way that kept me reading up until 40-50 chapters in. Once the two mains "complete" there romance with the "will you marry me" scene it just kind of stops being a romance manga.
CHARACTERS (2/10): I very much dislike the majority of characters, which is unfortunate because they started out good they just devolved into 1-D traits. Miyamura is a stand out, he has such an interesting past and history only for it to be thrown away for him to become the cinnamon-roll character that just can't catch a break from Hori. Speaking of Hori, just plain unfunny and unlikeable after chapter 40-50. She becomes this one note, moody, sadist who just beats on Miyamura. The side characters are super bland and the art style just blends the boys together. I didn't realize Iura was even a character until way later, I just mistook him for Sengoku since they have the EXACT same haircut. Speaking of side characters, again MISSED POTENTIAL. specifically the romance between Yoshikawa and Tooru. I mean they just kind of get forced together when there is so much story and drama to tell. I mean they both get approached by other students and they both get resolved in a chapter or 2. It would have been far more interesting if they maybe faced SOME kind of trouble finally deciding that they were meant for eachother and not: "Whoops we are fake dating but not really but also who knows." Most of the Side characters end up getting sidelined after appearing for the same one-off joke but are somehow still supporting characters like Sawada.
Art (7/10): The art is very clean and pleasing to look at. Lots of detail went into certain scenes and you can tell BUT too many of the male characters look the same. Skinny, feminine, long hair with the same big piece hanging in the center. I often confused Miyamura, Iura, Sengoku, and Yanagi due to their similar appearance.
Overall (5/10): Its a very middle of the road slice-of-life that starts out strong but slowly looses all momentum, only to realize there are about 75 more chapters to go. Its filled with unfunny comedy (this is subjective i know), and one-note characters until it just ends. Very unfortunate, but not the worst thing I've ever read.

Since I know a lot of people are gonna come and read reviews on this before they watch the anime (or to read the manga before the anime comes out) I have this review for you.
Spoiler free: a classic Shonen concept gone absolutely nuts, in a good way I promise if you love absurd overtop powers and fight scenes man this gonna have your attention instantly and if you're a total degenerate like the rest of us the humor will have you in a "that's so funny cause its relatable" kind of way. Now it isn't all amazing I think a lot of the story
...
is very generic and predictable but the characters personalities make up for it. also its definitely hard to tell some of the characters apart artistically lots of boys with black hair, and they just kind of show up out of no where then disappear. But other than that everything is really well done.
tldr: 97 chapters and enjoyable fights/characters worth the read!!

Every Character had actual substance it was absolutely amazing! I was captivated, enthralled, and disgusted all at the same time. Aside from the excessive amount of gore, which I say fits the setting and story perfectly, The show had me at the edge of my seat wanting more and more to be revealed. sadly no second season came out and will most likely never which kinda makes it more appealing in the sense that it's up to the audience (who haven't read the manga) to make their own guesses and opinions about what might happen and be revealed. Overall amazing would recommend to anyone with

Honestly, when I first watched this when it came out I was very skeptical and didn't think much of it mostly because it was to complex for my young mind. but as I went back and rewatched it I realized how absolutely well put together this anime is. For Starters, the art style, with the fisheye camera angles, and the vivid colours and characters designs it's almost hard not to get lost in the simple yet complex visual style of it all. Sadly without proper knowledge of where this story originated, it may be hard to grasp the storyline as it is quite all over
...
the place and obscure. However, that doesn't make it any less good. I recommend this anime to anyone who has a little extra time on their hands to truly enjoy this work of art.
