The MCs in both Mangas go through significant development, and yet are polar opposites. While Kaneki wavers between his original kind self and the emotionless, crazy side that turns on when he flips his switch, Thorfinn continues down his path towards redemption without ever straying. Vinland Saga starts out as an action-packed historical adventure, then becoming a simpler story where he seeks to achieve his dream as peacefully as possible, while Kaneki abandons that side of him to change things the hard way -- because he lives in a cruel world he has to be just as cruel. Thorfinn goes against that logic, and despite these large differences, there is a similarity between both manga that I can't really grasp. But if you enjoyed one of the two, you would definitely like the other as well.

Song of the Long March

Song of The Long March, or Changge Xing in Chinese ( Chouka Kou in Japanese ) is a manhua that I started reading when I was ten. Though incomplete due to the author's contract termination with the editor, the story is definitely worth it. It's the story of a coup d'état in ancient China that resulted in the death of the entire imperial family but the emperor's brother, man behind the coup d'état, and the princess Yongning, who managed to escape but is officially accounted for dead. Now living as a traveling merchant under the name of Li Changge, she seeks to exact revenge upon her uncle. Changge is the strongest female MC I know. With a natural gift in martial arts, and the mind of a legendary strategist, she climbs up the ranks of society, occasionally falling and being called traitor, but not afraid to rise up again. It's an action shoujo, like Yona of the Dawn, though without the group of hot guys running after her -- on the contrary, they're looking for her head. More serious than Yona of the Dawn, too, and yet surprisingly similar. Please check this manhua out.

Horimiya

Horimiya, focusing more on its romance and comedy, all the while developing its characters, is very similar to my favorite manga of all time, Fruits Basket. Now I'm sure there are much better manga than this one, but it was a series that came to me during hard times. In fact, I had never felt lonelier in my life, but Fruits Basket cured me of depression with its relatable characters and fantastic development. It felt good being able to see myself in them, and Horimiya, though in a more light-hearted way, does the same thing. Both are really great stories, that you should definitely give a shot

Kami no Tou

In my opinion, the manhwa for Tower of God is like a better version of Hunter x Hunter. Replace every character with their counterpart from the other show ( Gon = Bam, Killua+Kurapika = Khun, Leorio = Rak, Ging = Rachel ) and the stories match. I always preferred the TOG manhwa's slightly more seinen approach on things, and though the anime doesn't do it justice ( except for its music, Kevin Penkin you rule ), I think you might still get some enjoyment out of it.

Now this, this si something. Where Violet Evergarden focuses on Violet's sad journey to learn empathy, A Place Further Than The Universe focuses a little more on the heartwarming aspect of our four characters' journey towards their respective goals. The characters have some of the best chemistry I've seen in anime. And, you might ask, in what way is it similar to Violet Evergarden ? Well, if you're looking for something that hits in the feels and inspires you into doing something you wouldn't usually do or changing your perception of the world a little bit, here is what's perfect for you.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica

The truth is, Mermaid Melody is much more shoujo-kids like than Madoka Magica. It's very cheesy and can be quite hard to get through at first for being quite repetitive, with each episode following the same format. But its second season, Mermaid Melody Pure, has a darker tone to it, that I really treasure as one of my first ever anime shows that I continued. If you enjoyed Madoka Magica, you will definitely get something out of Mermaid Melody, unless you drop it ( which is understandable ).
