Having watched over 200+ anime, I have to say Fate series was always up there. Not only was it 'famous' and 'mainstream' but it is one that actually lives up to its hype and to its name.
I was always interested the Fate/series. I started with Fate/zero ->Fate/stay night by studio dean -> Fate/stay night UBW. Now naturally, I would follow it's other route, Fate/stay night Heaven's feel.
For those who do not know, Fate/zero occurred 10 years earlier to the events in Fate/stay night. Due to the fact that this series originated from the visual novel, it had different route. In Fate/stay night, there
...
were three route (alternative storyline in the same period). Hence you see similar characters but different story.
Now, I am an anime only. From my point of view, Fate/zero was my favourite. I love the serious and dark vibe it hard. More importantly, Fate/zero's feature of ideological battle intrigued me and drawn me into loving the series. To be honest, before this route, Fate/stay night was average, sub-par, compared to Zero. The main reason for this is that Shirou is too nice and sometimes makes indecisions that have a costly price to pay. This characterization makes him sometimes annoying. The only reedeeming factor was Saber who always comes to the rescue and Archer's back story (in UBW) (I will not spoil).
This route, however, is quite different. It came as a surprise to me that Saber 'died' so early (Bare in mind I am anime only). The focus on Sakara and his relationship with Shirou was interesting. This is the selling point of this arc. This route is clearly darker than the other Fate/stay night routes. I am loving it so far. I would rank this 2nd best in the series behind zero. However, it is still too early to tell. The pacing was great.
The only downside is, I can't bear to watch Shinji (he is literally the definition of evil) and he is kind of getting more developed. Despite that I don't want to see the series end in a tragedy, I kind of see it having a high probability of happening...I better get my tissue ready for the next few movies but it would be a ride not to be missed.
Animation is always flawless. I mean what can i say? Utfoable has unlimited budget works. I think this is equal, if not above Disney quality. the CGI animation is so well implemented unlike other anime (aijin for instance). The fighting scenery gave me a chilling feel.
The sound is great but not perfect. There was a solid dark ending music sang by aimer. The OST by Kujin was ok. But, I feel like it is not as great as it could have been (For instance, I like sinners of garden's ost more.
I would say, watch this if you are a fate fan who has watched several series already.
I would say watch this later if you haven't seen fate/stay night's other arcs yet. I feel like this will be the best arc of Fate/stay night. It's better to watch the other routes (less better ones first) then build up to watch this.
As for whether to watch Zero first or stay night first, it was always a debate in the community. IF you want to watch it chronologically, watch zero first then stay night. If you want to watch it in terms of enjoyment watch stay night first then zero because chances are you will LOVE ZERO much more than stay night. The rule is leave the best until last.
Obviously, I will keep following this series. I am really interested to where this relationship between Sakara and Shirou goes even though, I think it might end in tradgey. I also am interested in a series where saber is out of the picture. This would provide interesting development for other characters. Therefore, I judge this entire Haven's feel story too early to be judged but for a standalone part I, it was almost perfect. It set up the story very well with solid pacing, art and sound.
For this reason, I am giving in 9 out of 10. It's just too early to call it a masterpiece. If its subsequent parts lives near the standard of Zero or surpass it in its on way, then I will no doubt score it a 10. But until then, this is a 9 out 10. I am very looking forward to see part II and III when it comes out!

This anime has changed my moral standard. No not just that, by my own view of the world and how I should live. This anime is one of the best, underrated anime that everyone should at least give a shot. I recommend you all to watch it but under these circumstances:
- DO not drop the series until you have finished watching all 25 episodes. (The first few episodes are very boring but it picks up after the camping trip.)
- It may seem confusing, but EVERYTHING comes together by the 25 episodes. Most of your questions will be answered.
- The ending is statisfactory
...
given the world in which the author paints. So if you are worried about the ending don't. It's magnificent.
- It is for matured audience. Really, it has dark themes.
These quotes from this anime are now officially impacted on my view of life and it will continue for the rest of my life. I guess you will have to find out the explanation and the deeper meaning when you watch the series. Yes go watch it now.
- We ultimately fear what spawns from within us.
- All problems come from the human mind. In the mind, one's consciousness is just the tip of the iceberg. What lies beneath the surface... the subconscious... is far more vast.
- I think there are many things in this world we are better off not knowing. Sometimes the truth is the cruelest thing of all. Not everyone can bear it.
- Sometimes, the truth is the cruelest thing of all.
-The power of imagination is what changes everything. (cantus)
- We are human
Story
Nothing could describe the theme in this anime. In fact there are many themes in the story and covers many philosophical , psychological issues and even modern day problems. It could be seen as a coming of age story, or a story regarding human nature, racism, conflict and dystopian future. The impact of extreme technology i.e genetic engineering, nuclear weapon, on the world and humanity. Many many themes. Yes, it is actually executed well so you will see everything without complaining about pacing or not understanding. Oh and even homosexuality...
10/10. Go watch it now even just for this story alone.
Art
The eyes of the characters are unique. I like them. The other aspect of art were not particular well especially if you look back. I watched this in 2016 when the anime was actually aired 2012/13. Yes, I could notice the art difference. But it still good enough. The camera angle and everything is perfect. Art could be one of the downside but it DOES NOT AT ALL AFFECT the unravelling of the story which won my heart. 8/10
Sound:
It's good enough for back in the day. I know this is nothing glorious like AOT, or GC soundtracks, but ED and OST was memorable. Honestly, it fit the mood. so... 9/10.
No op is actually a good thing. It shows how there is something always in the background (ending song only) to have that dramatic effect.
Character:
The characters no doubt grew from a child to teenager to an adult. Though, I would have like to see more action and change by saki in the end. But overall GOOD development. And perhaps, you are wondering about shipping... well it IS IRRELVENT in this series but the message itself is so much more important then that. In the end, you realize it doesn't matter who end up with who but rather the experience they shared. 9/10
Enjoyment:
Look, I was horrified and was on the edge of my seat. I had to pause every 1-2 episode to analysis what the hell was going on. But it was worth it. I really liked it. I really recommend you all to watch it. 7/10
Overall:
look, sometimes, you just have to watch the anime to see it for yourself. With out spoiling anything, all i have to say is, it is so good. It is educational and life changing. You will grew with the growth of these characters and the progress of the story. It unravels about humanities past, present and future. It changes you forever in the inside. :D watch it when are over 18. And ENJOY <3
