Dragon ball Daima is a surprisingly well animated series which takes Dragon ball back of its roots.The fight scenes are fluid and fast paced. The series has a care free and casual tone to it, akin to Kid Goku and his adventures in OG Dragon ball. The build up of the lore has been fantastic and ties into both Super and Z. Conceptually it might have similarities to GT but in terms of delivery it clears GT by a mile. Must watch for any Dragon ball fan, and a recommended watch for a casual watcher. Sousou no Frieren

Slice of life anime with a unique post-war setting. The main character Frieren is well written and her story and throwbacks are quite captivating. It feels like you are watching two and sometimes 3 stories unravel at once, Frieren with Flamme, the journey of the heroes and the current journey north to heaven. This is very unique way of capturing the emotions and character growth and also keeps a sense of mystery. The art style and animation is well done, the dialogue is well written and there are a even a few hype moments in an otherwise pretty serene series.

Dragonball Super has its up's and downs. It starts off bad, picks up steam in Universe 6 v/s Universe 7 and the Zamasu saga, then spends too much time in filler before ending on a high with the Tournament of Power.
Animation: 7/10 Really bad in Battle of Gods and the Golden Frieza Saga. Some amazing episodes in Tournament of Power as if finally Toei Animation decided to get serious. Forms: 8/10 Some great new forms such as Super Saiyan God and Ultra Instinct and some rather mediocre ones like Super Saiyan blue. A concise, to the point anime, with unique characters, thrilling and at times depressing storyline and an extremely well written second half which ties back well into the first half of the anime. The first half starts of slow and is hard to binge in one go, but the series really kicks off around the half way mark and doesn't slow down till the end taking you on a roller coaster of emotions and really makes you rack your brains to follow along.

The show that for many people started their journey into anime. When Dragonball Z first aired on TV in the late 90s it was unlike most other shows on TV. Energetic opening, over the top unique characters, great fight scenes, unique concepts and most importantly an underlying lesson of being good, forgiving and always pushing yourself to your limits. For the western fan of the show, the Bruce Falconer score was the cherry on top, perfectly capturing the energy and emotion of the moment.
So why should one care about it 2023? The overall story of Dragonball and Dragonball Z still holds up pretty well. ... |
