I honestly loved Deltora Quest when I first found it. So much so that I watched it like 30 times, skipping a lot of episodes. Honestly, I still like this anime, but I absolutely despise the dub. Not because I believe in original or the age old sub vs dub debate. No, this dub is so bad it made led me to hate dub.
SUB: 8/10
There are very few soundtracks in this version, which actually makes it better. There’s more feeling in the characters due to the emotions of the VAs. Better yet, there are no extra-cringey lines, and the mouths match the words being spoken.

The sub can’t be found on official sites, though. I remember looking for hours on end to find the subs when I found the anime and only found dub. Now you can watch the main series on aniwave, so if you wanted to watch the sub, look there.
DUB: 1/10
There are super cringey lines and obnoxious voices. Worst off, the actors are emotionless, even in critical situations. For instance, in episode 13. This one guy got betrayed by his best friend, and the VA uses MONOTONE. I’m not saying who got betrayed. This is the only spoiler I’ll give.
Also, the composers used too much music in the sense that almost every major scene had music. I admit that the middle of the episode’s music was needed, but the majority of it was overdone.
ANIMATION: 9/10
The animation is actually amazing for 2007-2008! Compared to now, it’s nothing special, even outdated, but the 3D creatures mixed with the 2D anime characters is a sight to behold.
CHARACTERS: 6/10
Some characters have more depth than others. The main reason why I have problems with this is because the main character, Lief, has little character development in the anime. At least in the novel by Emily Rodda, he goes from obnoxious to a hero from my knowledge.
I think that’s my share of things… I can’t say much about the plot, honestly. Sorry this was so short.
