You read that right. If anything, Nabari no Oh is more similar to Evangelion than Naruto by a loooooooong stretch. Both have existential conflicts revolving around well-intentioned but evasive and fragile main characters (Hedgehog's Dillema). Both are something of character studies; Eva around dissecting and deconstructing character archetypes of anime/manga and unveiling psychological illnesses and general diagnostics on their corresponding psyches, how their upbringings and the events that transpire over the course of the series affect these things, and how they become more primal and relatable problems to ourselves in real life. Meanwhile Nabari tackles the worldviews and ambitions of various characters with essentially the power of Instrumentality in reach had it been a commonly known thing; how they go about their lives and choose to change them be it past, present or future and how it will affect the lives of few or many, etc. Both involve identity crises with parental figures and how they alter the course of a child's development and personal identity. Both deal with transhumanism to a degree (won't spoil). Both deal with destiny and the repercussions of using children as tools of war. Both have a lot of intermingling details in characters, plot and setting merging in different (and subtle) ways affecting the course of each and every particular thing in various manners. So yeah, Nabari is actually surprisingly deep and far more reminiscent of Evangelion than Naruto as it is most often compared.
