This series is 'fairly gone' just like its name suggests. When I saw that this anime was an original show about how these soldiers will adapt to society after a war,I was expecting great things. However, little did I know that this anime has little to no idea of what its trying to achieve that Fairy Gone is one of the worst anime of this season.
Let's begin with one of the tools this show loved to use, flashbacks.Flashbacks are a good way to introduce to the viewers character backstory and is an easy tool to utilize. It seems almost impossible to misuse these assets but Fairy Gone managed to achieve
...
this incredible feat. How does Fairy Gone achieve this?Simple, just slap flashbacks whenever you want, even if the timing is absolutely terrible. One example of this would be when a flashback of Maryla being depicted as a "cursed child" appeared even though all that happened in the present is the train being attacked while Maryla is unconscious(Note:She was just chilling on the train before that). The flashbacks have absolutely no link to the present events and feels extremely random. This is why you would barely understand this anime, the presentation of information are mostly flashbacks that feel extremely random.
Moreover, the name dropping is just obnoxious.Even right now,I only remember a few names. This show has very lackluster characters that can't be remembered on top of the big cast, making it difficult for any viewer to remember who is who.
In particular,I have a big issue with Dorothea. This governmental organisation is supposed to be an organization which investigates and suppresses fairy-related crimes. But how can you expect this useless group which is inferior to the criminals to uphold justice.Dorothea has constantly failed in this series with Bitter Sweet tricking the group, losing to Liscar and so on.This is especially infuriating when Free who is part of the "main group" is an experienced veteran. Are we supposed to believe that Free is an experienced veteran when he got his ass kicked and stood no chance against Liscar who is also an experienced veteran?Come on,they should be around the same level,Free should at least put up a significant resistance.
You might be asking,"But Free put up a resistance against Liscar in the final episode, surely that is a plus to the story?"Absolutely no.It makes no sense that Free can suddenly stand a chance against Liscar when in between the two fights,Free has undergone zero training and preparation. This is another example of how this show does not know what it is doing.
Next, let's talk about characters. They are bad, really bad.Maryla wants to find Veronica, but since the story is geared towards the political tensions for the most part, this motivation of Maryla is vastly ignored and I even forgotten that she actually had a goal.On top of that,Maryla felt like she had no place in the story, as she does not have a stake in the overarching plot and this is supposed to be our main girl.Free also does not have much of an established motivation.Pretty much the whole squad is conscripted at this point and it makes us root for the villains because our protagonists are incompetent buffoons who does not have any motivation at all. This does not mean that the villains are good. The villains have solid motivations but were not explored fully by the show despite the show hinting to us that these are deep characters, maybe the second season can salvage this?I really hope so.
Finally,it's time to dive deep into the story.Wait, what is the main theme of this show?No idea, the synopsis says one thing but the show depicts a bunch of them.Without a main theme, this show lacks focus and perpetuates the problems in its characters. This is a show desperately tries to do everything but failed at everything. The writers obviously could not handle so much content and clearly needed to just focus on one specific theme.
On a side note, the art direction is alright, reminds me of the upcoming Fire Emblem Three Houses game. The soundtrack is actually really amazing,I actually feel extremely sad as this trainwreck of a show really does not deserve this god of a soundtrack.
All in all, this show is bad, really bad.It obviously had an amazing concept but the execution and subsequently abandoning of this very concept is what has solidified this show's place as a classic example of how not to write a story.

Last year,we has Fate/Apocrypha,this year,it was this show about the hundred years war,Ulysses. There is a common trend with shows that star the legendary Saint Joan of Arc,they fell flat and kind of suck.Ulysses, in particular, was exceptionally bad that I can't see any significant redeeming point about this show. So,I am going to review one of the worst anime of 2018 right now.
Story(1/10):Have you ever wrote a story before?Maybe as a student or as an author. One thing is for sure, this anime has a sorry excuse for a story. It is unbelievably bad that even a kid writing a story would write better. To elaborate, firstly, there is no proper transition
...
between each episodes, rendering the viewers confused with what this anime is about in the first place, this means that the episodes feel isolated and substantially lower the overall enjoyment of the viewers. On top of that, the story continuously raise its stakes till gods and spaceships were involved, making the story feel ridiculously horrible due to how this would lower tension in the show as viewers will care less about the stupid nonsense that is happening on the scene. The story also constantly emphasize on boobs, initially it was funny, but it became dull and annoying when boobs were constantly being the "main protagonist".Lastly, the lack of consistency also hurts this show. The rules of Jeanne as an ulysses was thrown out of the window during the final episodes because plot armor. There is just so many flaws with the story and no redeeming factors to it that ultimately doomed the story of Ulysses.
Art(4/10):However,I do like the art style of the show, the female characters either look cute or beautiful, increasing aesthetic points for the show.It is unfortunate to say that this is the limit to the positive things I have to say about the visuals. The male characters,on the other hand, are poorly drawn. This is especially the case for the god that spawned with montmorency's consumption of the philosopher stone. The animation was serviceable up till the action scenes, the action scenes were poorly done with a mix of choppy frames and poor CGI implementation.I also would like to point out the terrible design of the attire of female characters,it is blatantly obvious that they were created to sexualise the characters add nothing else valuable to the characters. Thus, despite some well drawn female characters, the visuals are terrible for almost everything else.
Sound(7/10):Let us get this straight, the audio isnt amazing. The only reason why I passed it is because I like the opening, there was actual effort put into it.Other than that, the audio was mostly ok and not bad. Thus,I give the sound section a pass.
Character(1/10):If there was anything missing from the story section,it'll be here. The first episode has little to no relevance to the second episode. Why?This is as the "heroines" shown in ep 1 are almost irrelevant to the story. In the second episode,we were introduced to Jeanne, whose only quality the show wants us to know is that she is flat.I'm not even joking here.Montmorency, the main character,is Gilles de Rais, the famous serial killer dude from France. That has nothing to do with the story because our male protagonist doesnt act like Gilles in any way,he is a boring character who cares about his friends and can be quite a coward unless he has the power of friendship or waifus.Other than that, the other characters are pretty much just one-dimensional.The females are head over heels over Montmorency, amplifying his only use as a self insert. This is a huge problem as characters like Charlotte need more characterization to show why she should even be queen of France.Even when the God was going to destroy the world, the only thing that the female cast cares about is whether Montmorency will live. The characters,in summary, are a huge disaster.
Overall, this anime is crippled with bad characters, bad writing and generally what seems to be a lack of understanding of the setting.I am not sure whether this anime is supposed to be a huge joke or a serious product because it is so bad that I cannot see how anyone would agree to participating in this project. This anime could have been decent, but unfortunately, having Joan of Arc as a protagonist in an anime has seen nothing but failure, and this show is the biggest failure of the bunch.Although I have a general distaste for this show,I will not be encouraging people to skip this show, that is up to you all to decide after seeing all the reviews that have been put up on this show.Thank you for your time.

Zombieland Saga is your stereotypical horror show with zombies.Nah,of course not,I'm just pulling a leg here. But,that is actually what MAL portrayed the show to be in its initial stage and with very little information, low expectations were immediately setted for the show. However, those very expectations will soon be exceeded.Let's start the actual review.Zombieland Saga is an anime about a group of undead zombies forming an idol group under the brilliant leadership of their manager,Kotarou,in their quest to accomplish Kotarou's goal of saving the Japanese prefacture,Saga.(I feel like this may be the show's way ofmaking a parody of idol anime settings like Love Live that requires the group
...
to save the school.)This general plot was whipped straight at the viewers after the 1st episode which disguised itself as the stereotypical zombie horror show that it isn't.I got to say that it was pretty good publicity as this is the first "horror" anime that anime fans will see in Fall 2018 and will watch this show purely to see whether this "horror anime" will turn out great. To generally summarise this anime, this is a comedy idol show that throws a lot of ridiculous moments and a huge meme on its own while it is also able to get serious when the show requires it to be.Now,I'll start discussing on the various parts of the anime that made me give it a score of 8.(There will be spoilers in this review as examples to substantiate certain points.)
The story in its own is of course, ridiculously simple. Our main protagonist,Sakura, gets whacked by a van, just normal everyday problems, and became a zombie, gets pulled in the idol group under Kotarou and the story continues to show the exploits of our zombie friends. The story is not particularly amazing but it is pretty good as compared to other "idol" shows due to its innovative ways of presenting the idol genre through the funny and interesting perspective of our zombie friends.
The Art of this show is not particularly noteworthy in general. But,there are a few instances where the aesthetics of the show shines. For example, the show uses CGI during the earlier episodes to highlight how awkward and bad our Zombie idol group was when it comes to performing while simultaneously making a joke out of how other idol anime uses the CGI effect on a daily basis. The show then contrast this with using 2D animation when the group starts improving to show the visual improvement of the group, something that is lacking in most idol anime. The animation is also pretty fluid when the characters make over the top actions which made the scene extra hilarious. Therefore, although the general artstyle is mediocre, the way they animated the show is brilliant and innovative and is something other idol anime can learn from.
Let us move on to the audio aspect of the show. The OST is ok,nothing praiseworthy but good noneoftheless. The idol songs are surprisingly good,I enjoyed every single one of them. They are generally on par with other idol anime in terms of its good quality. However, the most noteworthy thing about the audio of this show is the intro. The way the absolutely mind-boggling visuals were complemented by the equally ridiculous intro song made the intro a must-watch,this brilliant masterpiece should not be skipped.Lastly, the ending isn't as good as the opening but it is a good reminder that the show is not pure comedy and does have serious elements to it.(Backstory of some of our zombie friends and their respective arcs)
Let us talk about the characters now. With a huge of 7 zombie girls and our godly manager, there will definitely be good and bad points about the characters of the show.On one hand, characters like Yugiri(lily to a smaller extent, outside her own arc) are certaintly neglected and feels like the cast may have expanded too much and have filler characters. But,the show still manages to add colour to the rest of the main cast, even though some of these characters have little screen time.Firstly,THE LEGENARY YAMADA TAE,an all-time favourite among fans of the show, certaintly lives up to her legendary status.Even though Tae doesn't talk in the show and little is known about her past self, she still manages to captivate the hearts of the viewers with her hilarious and insane stunts.Next, out idol pair,Ai and Junko, although not as amazing as Tae,are still essential to the show as a whole in providing serious analysis on the generation gap and their conflicting ideals on how an idol should act.Lily, although a weak character outside her arc,has shed light on how someone could lose their initial vision after acquiring fame and fortune, hurting their child unknowingly. Her arc is pretty good and is one of the most emotional episodes of the anime.Sakura, our main main girl,is actually not particularly amazing but is often the "sane" one of the group, though this is not the case for some of the episodes. The last of the zombie girls,Saki,is a reckless biker gangster whose own undoing is her own recklessness, she is also the leader of the group though she does not act like one well, which actually adds to the comedy aspect of the show.Lastly,we have the wise yet most ridiculous character of the show,Kotarou.Do I even need to spell it out? This man's weird antics never fails to make me laugh and on top of that,he is like a father figure of the group who is helping the zombie girls during difficult times under the guise of his crazy persona, this man is a godsend, best character of the show easily.
Overall, this show is pretty enjoyable, there will be WTF moments initially but once the show gets going after their whole publicity stunt,it gets really good and will sure to bring smiles to you.If you expect a horror anime, this is not the show for you,but if you want to watch a comedy show that will help you get through tough times and bring you a smile after your busy day at work, then this is the show for you. This show,in my opinion,is a revolutionary idol anime that brings a whole new option to the idol genre, therefore, this show is also easily one of the top idol anime out there and imo,is better than even Love Live and the other top idol anime.

I've had high expectations when I started this anime, expecting this to be the biggest show of 2018,I was clearly mistaken. The anime starts off with a fairly good introduction, introducing us to the cast and the mystery of the show, this is important to note later down the review.I would say that this anime is getting too much hate, its a fairly meh anime, but definitely not deserving of being torn apart,we have a top contender for that already.(Clue:The new isekai harem anime)
I will like to tackle the art and sound of the anime first. It is of fairly good quality combined with what I believe are the powerful soundtrack of
...
the source material itself. The art and sound are definitely of high quality, but it is the strongest point of the show. This is only the icing to the cake and we would still need the cake to taste good.
This is a problem when we discuss the story and the characters.Let's start off with the characters. This is actually fairly simple to analyse as we have our protagonist Setsuna who is interesting at first but was turned into a boring harem protagonist after the introduction section,ep 2.Next, we have Karen, not too much to say here considering her relevance to the story, typical clumsy tsundere. At least her arc is pretty good to be fair. After that,we have our loli of a loli Sara,a funny and slightly obsess with myths and time travelling, however, she also is irrelevant to the story.Lastly,we have our main girl,or so we thought,Rinne, another tsundere who is absolutely obsessed with "her setsuna",pretty boring of a character but is important to the story.
Let us move on to the juicy part, the story, which is also the worst aspect of the show. The story starts off by creating an intense atmosphere over the mystery of our setsuna. The story then tries to pull off a similar stunt from Steins Gate by putting casual slice of life events in the first few episodes to get us attached to the characters, which failed miserably due to how rushed and awkward the interactions are.We would then time skip to Rinne's supposed death which forced Setsuna to "time-freeze" his body, kind of like cryogenics. He then wakes up in the future and met Rinne 2.0,which is a product of all anime characters look alike. This future arc is EXTREMELY rushed with only 2 episodes and little development for any of the characters, this tremendously hurt the story as this anime is heavily reliant on its character.Setsuna would go back in time to save the world,oh wait nope.He just hooks up Rinne 2.0 of legal age who also went through cryogenics and became Rinne's father. In other words,he almost married his own daughter and start an incest. The whole problem with this ending is,the apocalyptic future is still assured, nothing has changed, the world will still perish, which would mean that the whole mystery mentioned in paragraph 1 is pretty useless. We spent the whole 12 episodes of this anime hoping for Setsuna to do something relevant to the "mystery",not just marry Rinne 2.0.This story is extremely unsatisfactory due to poor timing and throwing the entire plot out of the window in the last episode.
All in all,I did expect Island to be a disaster if it only has 12 episodes, which it did.I was hoping that the series could save itself since it is produce with rather high quality judging from the art and soundtrack. However,at the end of the day,the story and characters of the anime are still important to consider, causing Island to be a mediocre anime, which is extremely pitiful due to its potential to be a great anime.

Shichisei no Subaru is one of the three NEW isekai anime of the season, ranking second out of the 3 in my opinion. That in itself,is no amazing feat as the isekai anime of this season aren't that amazing.
Let's start with the premise.I am going to use one word to summarise it,bullshit. The whole game of this anime is somehow more illogical than SAO itself.ReUnion is a VR game where you play as fantasy people with powers known as senses. On top of that,if you lose in the game, your account gets permanently deleted. This makes no sense at all as there is absolutely no effort into making the game mechanics
...
balanced and no business would be able to thrive by selling a game that bans you after you lose.Although this could be justified by how the game is meant to be an experiment on people,it still makes absolutely no sense as to why this game is so poorly made and it probably would not have any players if not for the plot and story.
The story is pretty generic and the characters take the game way too seriously, which is not really justified in the first half of the anime. The story also places a heavy emphasis on the almighty love triangle by having many of them, this would not be so bad if not for how the anime just tries to shove it down our throats with the romance instead of integrating it well with the story.
The art is pretty abysmal,it is what people would call the 'generic anime art style'.This point is further proven by how the fanservice scenes don't even engage me at the slightest due to the poorly drawn frames of the anime.
Music and OST are not notable except for how the anime seems to be targeted to kids with their light-hearted OP for an anime with a supposed serious tone.
Overall,I would recommend not watching this anime unless you have too much time for your own good.It is poor in almost every aspect and is obviously of low budget as well.I probably do not need to change anything in this review after all the episodes are out as there is simply no way this anime could redeem itself at this point,I am already at 3/4 of the entire series.

This anime had a very interesting premise about magical cursed books as seen in the synopsis. However, this anime fails to make use of its premise and becomes an absolutely dreadful show. The few good points of the show would be its decent music and art, plus the fact that it is so bad that it is comedic.Other than that,if you are here for a deep and intriguing plot, you have come to the wrong place.
As usual from a reverse-harem anime,we have boring one-dimensional male characters. This is especially so in this anime as most of the cast cannot even identify cursed tomes, and they cannot even be security men well, making this
...
series pretty painful to watch. It really makes one wonder why the government in this fictional world actually thinks its a good idea to waste taxpayers' money on the Fukurrou(Department responsible for dealing with cursed tomes),since the organisation is pretty poor.Pretty much, the whole setting of the story is not executed well due to our male cast and their incompetence.
On top of that,75% of this show is just the heroine clearing some sort of side quest, doing absolutely nothing relevant to the plot. This might work in some shows, but when your plot is your biggest selling point and the "side-quest" are boring as heck,it really makes this series really blant and painful to watch.
This is definitely an anime I would recommend a skip,it is just another one of those anime with an interesting premise but terrible execution.
