What I think is most important to know before watching this series, is the fact that it only covers about 1/10 of the story, which is 1728 chapters long. Therefore, you will only get 1/10 of the whole plot, 1/10 of character development and so on.
It can be seen as an advertisement, meant to invite people to read the novel. And it does a very good job at that. Honestly, I added the novel to the very top of my reading list after 3 or 4 episodes.
However, for those who never played MMORPG, are not interested in e-sports and haven't read novels of this
...
genre, you can get easily lost. Unlike classic Japanese MMORGG anime, where games are treated almost like a fairyland that characters are transported into, here game is just a game. All players are already familiar with it, and there is no helpful "exposition character" that will digest every scene for the viewers. Moreover, each important character has at least two appearances and names - real world and in-game. Some also have other nicknames from older servers. That's quite a lot to remember.
But the problem with the lack of exposition becomes an advantage if you are familiar with online games. It really isn't necessary to know every skill tree, every dungeon's theme and so on. Let's be real, is as unnecessary as 90% of the NPC dialogue in games. Have you ever wanted to yell "Lady, I don't care that your village is dying and your daughter is missing and your husband is away on the battlefield, just tell me how many goblins I need to kill!"? Well, this series completely skips all of the flavor text and brings you directly into the sweet parts of PVP and PVE.
