As a diehard fan of Trigger this is definitely their edgiest and most depressing anime yet.
If you like shock value, blood and nudity more than anything this show is for you.
Let's start with my favorite thing, the animation. The animation is amazing, from the sick action scenes, to the facial expression of characters becoming distorted in fear as they realize they're 2 seconds away from getting their bodies ripped apart in fully detailed gore. There's not a single action scene that doesn't have weight, every punch feels good, every bullet shot feels impactful and every explosion affects their surroundings the way you would expect it.
The
...
art direction and visuals of the show compliment that by using the really pretty visuals from the game and making them pop out more with bright colors and cool lighting. Something that could be a little distracting to people who played the game is how they used areas from the game and redrew them for every scene of the show. Its so accurate that I wouldn't be surprised if it was traced for the most part. Similarly the sound design is heavily taken from the game and the music has a similar vibe, though I think its somewhat better than the game.
The characters is where it kinda starts to lose me. The biggest complaint this show is getting is that its too short so the characters don't get enough screen time to be expanded on, I'm personally neutral on this, I more so have issues with how unlikeable most characters are. The main character starts off promising, likeable and even relatable, but as the show progressed I began to question the character's actions and even kinda disliked him to a certain extant. Lucy has her moments, but I wasn't crazy for her either. Rebecca is the most fun part of the show and Maine is your typical experienced strong guy who shows the ropes to the mc.
Now when it comes to the story thats where I start having issues with the show, the characters don't really seem to have goals, they just accept any job and almost every character that dies dies with no real meaning or weight completely relying on shock value.
I won't get into spoilers but I didn't like the ending. It made me feel gross and empty. And not in like a cool artistic way where I feel like I got something out of it, rather it made me feel nihilistic which didn't seem to be the intention?
I still feel like the show is a 7/10 mostly due to the animation and art. But the characters and story were pretty mid to me.

No mom, they're not doing it "doggystyle" inside a stripper mecha, get out of my room.
I've been avoiding this anime for a few years now because half the internet was calling it a subpar Evangelion/GurrenLaggan and the other half was lusting over pink e-girls, but I finally decided to give it a shot and watch it.
Story is about kids fighting monsters in Mechas that only work when piloted in pairs, this causes the anime to have a very romance heavy theme and I can see why redditors may think this is not a relatable anime because of it. I personally really enjoyed it and I
...
thought it was pretty inspiring and uplifting, the two genres work pretty well together, but the issue is that the cast is way bigger than other Trigger animes causing a lot of the characters to lack a proper character arc. The fat guy and the female brat are good examples of this. The girl with glasses also had her entire character arc in a single 3 minute scene out of nowhere. The good characters on the other hand are really good, the whole Kokoro/Goro relationship made me tear up and the main characters have a very touching backstory that made me care about them.
The music was good, but not the best out of Trigger, there's a song in particular that stood out to me because you only hear it once in the entire anime and its just this Japanese man awkwardly freestyling in English and telling me to put my hands up and I couldn't help, but chuckle during the entire scene because of it.
Another example is when they started playing some happy idol music during a scene where the cast is pouring their heart out.
Also the robots are kinda hot ngl.
8/10

Sega Hard Girls is a very weird thing and the fact that they made a whole anime around it is just as weird.
The story is about Sega consoles "Graduating" by going inside random Sega games and completing objectives.
From the very first minute watching this show you can tell the budget is incredibly small, the show was animated in MMD and used artwork made by KEI (The guy who drew Hatsune Miku and most of her official art). Because of that every characters kinda look like Hatsune Miku in a weird way.
The characters themselves barely have a personality, Mega Drive is the smart one and I
...
genuinely cannot differentiate the other 2 character's personalities.
The music and sound effects themselves are almost entirely from Sega games, which isn't an issue since they have phenomenal soundtracks, but because of that the show itself kinda lacked its own identity. It kinda just feel like you're watching a sponsored Youtube animation half the time where they just have a few Sega models in an empty map, but thankfully the jokes are funny and the fan service is really good.
Also since the show is entirely animated in MMD, almost every games you will see are 3D ones with only a few scenes being edits of 2D gameplay footage of older games like Sonic, which btw, they have Sonic in the show, but they didn't have his voice actor, so you have modern Sonic in the game, but he's acting like classic Sonic which caught me off guard and felt very awkward.
I genuinely don't know if I would recommend this anime to anyone, it has really good episodes such as the Space Channel 5 and the Virtua Fighter episodes, but they also have games like Border Break which was never localized outside of Asia and some Mobile game I've never heard of which they seem to have put a lot of effort in. And then there's just a lot of really boring episodes where the girls just talking about their future as a set-up for the next big episode.
Watch it if you're interested, but don't feel pressured to finish it, its not that good.

HackaDoll is a fun little show of 5 minute episodes (7min incl OP and ED) that you can watch in an hour.
The quality itself of the show is quite cheap, the animation feels lazy (Sometimes they'll just zoom in on a character instead of making a proper close-up shot or disguise lazy animation as comedic shots multiple times per episodes).
The characters are as generic as they can get.
#1 is your average Dere Dere
#2 is your average "Ara ara" milf with massive "plot"
#3 is the cute boy that everyone think is actually a girl
And #4 is the punchline of half the episodes.
(We stan #3 in this
...
house)
The show also has an insane amount of fan service, for example #1's dress is so short that you can see her panties at all time which was very distracting and the hot spring scene is straight up softcore porn.
The overall story is only explained with 2 line of dialogue before jumping straight into the first story which made it difficult to get into at first and every single episode tackles a very distinct story which keeps the show from getting old or repeating itself.
Even though I'm being very critical of the show, its still very fun.

First movie was very fun and colorful with nice characters and a unique setting.
This movie retains these aspects for the most part, but the first half of the movie is dedicated to really annoying drama that ends up making the main cast very unlikeable compared to their dynamic in the first movie, but thankfully the 2nd half is pure fun with great animation and music.
I also want to comment on the new characters they added to the cast, they didn't have a chance to be developed since they were a supporting role, but I do have some comments about them.
Amanda was pretty cool and had
...
a really sweet dancing sequence.
Constanze had some cool gadget, but had no personality.
And Jasminka was just "fat people eating = funny" which really wasn't funny.
So overall, its fun.
I enjoy.

Progressive isn't a bad anime, but it fails to capture what made the original so good.
The first few episodes were very promising, but then the beach episode happened and it just went downhill after that. For the most part the story is pretty much the same as the original but with a new cast that doesn't share any chemistry with Haruko with the exception of Jinyu who is very boring and a bad attempt at giving Haruko a rival.
While the original show started off very confusing and got more clear as you watched it, this sequel gets more confusing as you watch it, but
...
instead of making you think and reflect about what happens, you kinda just don't care because there's really nothing to understand. It feels like the show tries to replicate the quirky feel of the original but without any of the reasons the original did it.
One of the things I did enjoy though was the animation, its not as good as the original, but it still tries its best to look cool and unique. I also very enjoyed Haruko, because she's basically the only character left from the original and she's simply the most entertaining thing this anime has to offer.
Overall, this sequel was very unnecessary, I enjoyed it, its a fine anime, but its not a good FLCL.
