Oh man. My expectations were high at the time of the first episode, but sunk faster than battleships at Pearl Harbor.
Let's start with the most painful thing for me: Story.
It's laughably bad. The story is compromised of two child-like morals: "War is bad" and "Ships are humans too" that the anime keeps dropping every few seconds.
It tries and fails miserably to deliver a serious message, which was an huge mistake in my opinion, since the source material is a silly waifu game. In my opinion the whole anime should have been a fanservice filler. The current iteration is a attempt of serious story, completely
...
void of any common sense.
The interactions between the characters feels forced beyond belief. The subplot between Ayanami and the other two starters is terrible. Laffey and Javelin met Ayanami for literally 2 seconds, and that apparently justifies her trying to kill your allies.
Not much else that I can say expect literally everything in this anime is below average. The backgrounds are boring, the sound effects are lame, the animation look cheap and there is a lot of cut corners.
I think the studio bit off more than they could chew with this one.
