Wanted to know what a grounded Chinese court drama would look like in anime format? Well, here you go.... In a fictional kingdom clearly inspired by Imperial China, a young, unassuming girl gets to work at the Imperial Palace. However, our heroine is soon implicated into a world of conspiracy and intrigue. She has to rely on her wits and skills to navigate the treacherous waters of the Imperial court. Despite their seemingly serious setup, both Saiunkoku Monogatari and The Apothecary Diaries also feature lighthearted storybeats and moments of levity that help prevent the experience from becoming a dour bore.

Sequels for two shows featuring young female spies. Though it must be said that both feel less like your typical spy thrillers (James Bond, Mission Impossible, et al) and more like stories of CGDCT that so happen to focus on secret agents.

Cute Girls Flying Military Planes, essentially. In 2015, the director of "Shirobako" - Tsutomu Mizushima - would make an OVA showcasing the pilot episode for "Third Aerial Girls Squad". Four years later, he would go on to direct a full fledged series of 12 episodes starring cute girls in military planes for the 2019 show "The Magnificent Kotobuki". In a certain way, one can say that the second OVA episode for "Shirobako" is a prototype for The Magnificent Kotobuki". The main difference of the two being that "Third Aerial Girls Squad" would feature third generation jet fighters going up against (presumably) an alien invasion force, whereas "The Magnificent Kotobuki" would involve World War II fighter planes squaring off various human factions. Neither title is intended to be a realistic story about military aircraft.

From a certain perspective, "Suzume" is a sort of like a spiritual successor to "Children Who Chase Lost Voices." A girl goes off in an adventure with an older, male protagonist with long, dark hair who's involved with an academic profession. The two films feature supernatural elements, and a journey that would eventually lead our main characters into the land of the dead. A main character is haunted by memories of a lost loved one who died before the events of the story. However, the two films aren't directly connected in the same way that "Your Name." and "Weathering With You" take place in the so called "Shinkai-verse."
