All too often I see that reviews base the worth of a movie on whether it brings something new to the table. This movie, it does have a similar formula to the entire series with a few exceptions - but unlike some of the other examples this movie does it very well.
In my personal opinion something does not need to be groundbreaking our standard-setting to be considered good - it just needs to keep you entertained through some combination of its traits.
Without a doubt, this movie accomplishes that. It actually adds a little more depth the the plot - the
...
balance between soul society, heuco mudno, the real world, and hell. For the longest time I knew that heuco mundo was NOT the same thing as hell, but I wasn't really sure of any distinction - one thing this movie did right, though the coherency can be questioned, was make them and the reason for their existence markedly different from heuco mundo and soul society.
The characters I found good - bleach has good characters. They hare fairly non-cookie-cutter for shonen anime, exceptions notwithstanding, and they are always presented well and stay in character - in the exceptions where they deviate from it, there's a reason that adds to events or the comedy. I particularly liked the unique villain's art design.
Lets not forget to mention, the animation quality was excellent. Of course. Most Bleach movies are. It was a pleasure to watch.
The plot was good and most importantly ADDED to lore, didn't butcher it - I HATE when movies butcher the lore of a series - and the sound design was not bad for Bleach. I have never been a big fan of Bleach soundtrack. There are some good tracks with impact, yes - and then there are some very poor choices. This is not much different in that respect - maybe just a little bit less of the "number one" crap that I disliked from the start.
Overall this was an enjoying watch - it's been quite some time since I watched any bleach and I was not disappointed.

I found this anime to be thoroughly enjoyable.
The plot is about what you can expect from a slice of life - it's a silly premise, and the show only really comes into it's own once you've got the full character interaction.
I do really love the characters - they're extreme, likely more-so than any real people you'll find (at least, i hope this is the case...) but their personalities are not standard slice-of-life personalities. Yozora is extremely sadistic ... I'm not so sure I'd call her a tsundere, except for maybe a couple instances where she is actually nice. It
...
doesn't happen that often. At the very least, she's not a normal tsundere...
Sena is a strange combo - very naive and borderline retarded at times, but also a genius as far as school work and athletics. Popular, with no friends. Might not make sense at a glance, until you watch.
Yukimura entertains me when "he" suddenly shows enthusiasm over something other than Kodaka. His seemingly gay interactions with Kodaka are pretty funny too... definitely one to create an awkward atmosphere.
Rika is ... well, damn. She's a huge pervert and has some mental problems, but makes me smile, and even laugh hysterically at certain points. (wait until the roller coaster... that's all I'll say) An actual genius, inventor, programmer, etc ... evidently she can do anything. She is also possibly the only one in the group who acknowledges that they're all friends.
Kobato has the whole Chuunibyou thing going on to the point that almost everything she says is "in character" ... it's cute, for some reason. Her hatred for Sena is great. I'd be scared of Sena too - not what you would call a "safe" person...
Maria ... well, she's annoying but still, cute. Also a genius, supposedly - but like most little kids, easy to trick and naive as can be. Also loud and impulsive - but she does add a necessary contrast to the rest of the group. Her little rivalry with Kobato makes me smile.
And well, Kodaka ... he's ok. He's definitely the weak link and so not worthy of a harem, he's a very standard and "safe" character. A very typical and boring pudding-head. I wouldn't really call him naive, but he's definitely scared by commitment and afraid to admit that he has friends. I found that aspect to be annoying, because unlike the other characters he doesn't have some extreme quirk keeping him from a social life or connecting the dots.
The art style is top notch. The characters look good, the backgrounds look good. It's all very full and detailed. Animation is about what you'd expect from a slice of life. Aside from the art style itself, there's nothing particularly eye popping - but the art style is very, very nice.
It's worth watching - especially if you want some non-standard humor and don't mind a little sadism. Full of insults and inappropriate comments ... it's a feel good anime, even if it's also one of the most mean-spirited you'll find. Maybe I've got that impression solely because of Yozora. Hmm. Well, it's got my approval. One of my favorites, in fact.

Somehow the ridiculous premise and over-the-top fanservice of this show ... actually don't ruin it. It can be hard to get into, given what it is - but under the surface it's actually full of redeeming qualities. Art style and sound design get good marks, and oddly enough, most of the characters (most, I say...) are pretty good, and though the plot is pretty predictable and has been done before, more or less, it still manages to keep itself interesting enough to make you want to see what happens to the characters next. It's very nice to look at, in all
...
aspects - both the backgrounds and settings, and the character designs and actual action qualify as eye candy.
It's upbeat and happy, by the end at least - it's like the sleaziest feel-good anime you'll find, I think, and while the massive amount of pantsu (as in, every single scene in the entire series, no exceptions) and fairly large amount of boobs popping up all over the place, could have ruined it, they struck a rare balance between these and actual content. That's quite a feat given just how far they take the above - I recommend watching it when your family / girlfriend are not around - but I do recommend.
For one of those anime I didn't expect anything from, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise. A fine example of why people both love and hate anime, rolled into a single show. A fine example of why I don't typically advertise my hobby openly too.
