*This is an adaptation so I’ll not talk about plot quality or characteristics. That talk belongs to the source material.
*My critique’s criteria is based on the understanding of what the production is trying to accomplish and how well it actually does it.
So, what’s this anime trying to be? A Laid-back-ish high fantasy story with a focus on human virtues and vices, emotions and relationships –both interpersonal and with the own self- through the passage of time, which is enough for it to have a special place in the genre. That basically is, and it does it superbly well

to the point of improving the source material in a few key moments that definitely contributed to being so highly rated.
Madhouse did a fantastic job complementing the dominant themes and enhancing those which are less developed in the manga. The animation makes sense from start to finish; pretty, fluid and charming goes well with the usual flow of the story and it transitions to be quite dynamic when fights happen, which despite reaching some very impressive highs in the last chapters they never become overwhelming, exaggerated nor distracts you from what they truly are: a fleeting moment of needed violence. Music pairs well too, is a sober, assertive partner who knows when to raise their voice, not a noisy teenager with no clue when to shut up.
JP VA’s did a great job too. Tones and intonations were fitting for each character and their own mannerisms and facial expressions. Chiaki Kobayashi, Ikumi Hasegawa and Reina Ueda performances were personal highlights for me, but I couldn’t point out any lazy performance. No idea about other languages VA’s, but I certainly hope they weren’t out of character.
Openings and Endings were beautiful, very artistically creative and tasteful.
Every part, every component of this anime is coherent with itself and the source material, which is why Frieren may be a perfect adaptation and the best fantasy show I’ve watched in many years.

A ver, ¿qué pretende ser este anime? Una historia un tanto desenfadada de alta fantasía centrada en las virtudes y los vicios humanos, emociones y relaciones tanto interpersonales como con uno mismo a través del paso del tiempo, lo que basta para que ocupe un lugar especial en el género. Básicamente eso es, y lo hace de una manera magnífica que llega al punto de mejorar el material original en unos pocos momentos, lo que definitivamente ha contribuido a que sea tan apreciado.
Madhouse hizo un trabajo fantástico complementando los temas dominantes y enalteciendo los que no lo son tanto en el manga. La animación tiene sentido de principio a fin: es bonita, fluida y encantadora, lo que va muy bien con el ritmo habitual de la historia y pasa a ser bastante dinámica en los combates, y ni siquiera cuando llega a esos altísimos picos de calidad en los últimos capítulos se torna abrumadora o exagerada y menos aún distrae del hecho de lo que son en realidad; un momento fugaz de violencia necesaria. La música también acompaña bien, actuando como un compañero sobrio y asertivo que sabe cuándo alzar la voz en vez de ser como un adolescente ruidoso que no sabe cuándo callarse.
Los actores de voz japoneses hicieron un trabajo estupendo. Los tonos vocales y entonaciones fueron adecuados para cada personaje considerando sus propias expresiones faciales y lenguaje corporal. Para mi gusto, las interpretaciones de Chiaki Kobayashi, Ikumi Hasegawa y Reina Ueda destacaron en especial, pero no podría señalar algún desempeño flojo. No tengo idea sobre la actuación de los actores de voz en otros idiomas, pero espero que por lo menos no hayan desentonado.
Tanto los Openings como los Ending fueron preciosos, muy creativos artísticamente y de buen gusto.
Cada parte, cada componente de este anime es coherente consigo mismo y con el material original haciéndolo, quizás, una adaptación perfecta y la mejor producción de fantasía que he visto en muchos años.
