Chaos Head started as an anime that build the story by giving a lot of interesting mysteries and questions to be explored, which answer we(I) try to find out by Theorizing/guessing from picking up the pieces of clues given to me as the story unfold from the Conversation, Scenes, and symbolic things, which happen until Ep 6.
Until that point I don't find this anime is Bad neither its Really Great, for me other than interesting and captivating Mystery to be solved and the way how they giving information bit by bit as the story progressing, there is none other aspect to be praised in my
...
opinion, rather it's a little bit boring and slow paced sometimes.
As you can guess from my explanation above, the story of chaos;head is leaning to heavier side and demand the audience to use their brain to process the informations while watching, as it should be for story driven series.
personally I don't find many difficulties to follow the story, in fact I made several plausible guesses and possible answers to the mysteries.
Then comes episode 7, I'll be damned...
The big revelations come and it hit me like "omg, this twist, one that I never even ever consider while making guesses, its 180 degree the opposite of my line of thought"
There and then I end my marathon watching then close the tab, I take my time to process all of what I witnessed just happen,
then I realize, be it Intentionally or by accident this show is a masterpiece in the way the tittle chaos:head you in reality not in normal way but in chaos;head fashion.
At that point I don't even care of the rest of the episodes, they don't matter, for me there's the perfect end of the story.
The main idea of the story is about imagination, delusion, what's real and what is unreal, the key word here is "blind spot" and this show successfully sneak into my "blind spot".
This is how I perceive the story and not everyone would perceive the same thing as me as the way of thought may differ from person to person.
In the end is Chaos;head a good series? Hell no, but it is masterpiece in its own right.

Spoiler free review
Is it dumb? of course its dumb, how the cute little girls being cute without being dumb.
Is it enjoyable? well, I did enjoy it much until its becoming formulaic from 7th episode onward, then it become average but still watchable.
why you ask? Because you're not supposed to care, its illogical to make argument logically against completely illogical series
The story doesn't follow it's own logic it is written in convenience for the sake of good scenes be it good action scenes, cute or cool overpowered scenes, the mc is dumb at using her OPness but not useless, side character contribution is neglectable. They can
...
just make the show only character is Mapple and Shella and add just a little more convenience in writing to reach the same outcome.
Character 3/10
Simply said, there are no character development or depth in the series, the only noticeable character is mapple as the MC and then by a wide margin Shella as the main supporting character, Sorry i mean Sally(i had to check her name to get it right), as for the other Characters I don't even recall their names. it felt like they are there merely for mandatory interaction in the story in the VRMMO settings, nothing really stand out, as their character are close to normal people.
in my opinion it's logical that the side characters doesn't have backstories to explore, because maybe there isnt any and that's not what the series about. they are there just to play VRMMO afterall
Story 3/10
The story is nothing new or spectacular, two cute little girl friends playing game in their the gorgeous environment in VRMMO world setting, there they made more friends, hunting monster and taking part in game events. There is no main plot/objective or sense or danger for the entire series. the story is simple and light as you can expect from normal VRMMO cliche. as everybody can see the story is not what the series main focus here
Art/Animation 7.5/10
Overall the art and Animation is above average, BOFURI know how to make weak story and shallow characterization rise from the grave of mediocre series and that is by taking the strength of an MMO World setting in making good atmosphere, pretty world, good fluid battle scenes, cool and cute designs. which is a success in a sense and disappointing at the same time, as the series become hollow at the later part of the story for me, luckily it's only 12 episode and it ends before it become unbearable.
I can't say the same for character design though, you be the judge, for me at the very best it is mediocre, might be for the reason so that the cool part of the art stand out more.
Enjoyment 6.5/10
If you like a light fluffy show and you like little cute girl doing childish things in pretty game world that has good animation and some cool design, this show combine all of it as their selling point, and i bet many people would like it especially younger audience and girl anime fan

My personal opinion on this Anime is it's Overdone, The Anime trying too much to make everything unique/unusual/weird, and by everything i mean "EVERYthing".
From mcs odd character to scenes trying to make you amazed, and for some people or younger new audience this could work wonderfully because it blew their mind.
But for me i cannot buy it, its just too much of a mess. paired with load and load of sexual innuendos and ecchi scenes which I usually don't care about, but at this point it's this show main selling point.
The Fight Scenes and Art is above average by today standard, but not
...
special
It's not hard to guess why people who did, like this show, to sum it up It is "male fantasy with supporting premise" and I'am sure many will hate it for the same reason, and that's fine because if you can enjoy a show then good for you, Or if you don't, just let the people who enjoy it enjoy it.
CHARACTER
This show is About a teenage boy who one day suddenly get an ability to transform without himself knowing the reason why. this boy is weak willed and try not to stand out "At all", He also really really nice and doesn't want to do bad things, you get it. This boy also very smart, but I've forgotten that he's supposed to be smart by the half of first episode. The only normal aspect of his character is his teenage boy sexual desire. Some people doesn't like this kind of Mc and is a dealbreaker. For me its whatever if it contribute to the plot and/or its necessary for the plot and character development/interaction with other characters.
The other main character is a girl which nothing much could be said about beside she's almost emotionless, weird and little bit crazy. I find it hard to relate too both Mc especially the girl(But she's there not for you to relate to, she can just strip and there all the persona you need).
STORY
The ecchi scene are good, if you like ecchi then you would enjoy this show more, but for more mature audience there are too many ecchi scenes in one episode so you cannot just ignore it
I cant stop thinking of The MC superpower while it is unique it is also for the sake of ecchi.
There's no strong reason for the Mc to fight other than helping the girl, but sometimes the reason isn't what necessary to be enjoyable watch, What make this a hard watch is compilation of all the things the show presented
