Story: The story is set in a post-apocalyptic earth where children are trained to become parasites that can pilot franxxs in male-female pairs to protect their society. To adapt to a changed landscape and the appearance of klaxosaurs people live in plantations that roam the planet. The story line is mostly what you expect for that kind of premise, with the main character having attributes that make him special among his peers and meeting a "fairy dream girl" granting him the power to protect the plantation in a franxx.
Art & Sound: Both of these attributes are what I have come to expect from a

Characters: The main cast is comprised of the children of squad 13 who protect their plantation. Overall, there are a variety of character types and individuality. Despite these different personalities, they still feel a tad cliche with little making them stand out compared to other characters of the same type from other shows. However, if you continue watching the show through to episode 9, this shifts with other members of the main cast, outside the main male-female pair, getting plenty of screen time and character development. If the shows continues to develop all its characters and ends with a satisfying plot - my rating may go up.
Enjoyment: Once I made it through the first few episodes, I was able to really get into Darling in the Franxx. The first few episodes are difficult to watch, not because of it being a slow start, but because of the sheer amount of overt sexuality that is thrown in your face. It does get toned down considerably in subsequent episodes. The sexuality that remains really feels like it fits in with the world created because of how the children know so little about emotional or physical intimacy.
Overall: I think you should give it a try if you like shows with similar premises. Darling in the Franxx similar to shows like Guilty Crown, Evangelion, Seraph of the End, Rakudai no Calvary, and Gakuen Toshi Asterisk in different ways.
