Kaguya-hime no Monogatari is one of a kind in the Studio Ghibli collection. The story is very unique and focuses on the aspect of change and how even though our intentions start out as good, they can turn into greed and selfishness.
The story was based off of a Japanese tale of the same title. Studio Ghibli did a marvellous job making a story on a piece of paper come alive. The art, sound and characters were well thought out to give the movie a nostalgic feel.
The art was different from the usual but it made the movie feel like someone was telling us a story.
...
It reminded me of a picture book which is probably what Miyazaki was going for.
The sound was used to build and release tension. It starts of calm and slowly builds up to keep the audience on edge. Music is a big deal for me, especially in movies as it can make a big difference. The producers did a good job with picking the right music.
Now, the characters in my opinion weren't as interesting as Kaguya but seeing as the story is mainly based around her, it didn't bother me. It felt like the only characters who developed further were Kaguya, Ouna, Okina and Sutemaru but again, that's forgivable as these are the main characters.
If you like sweet stories with a sad ending, this movie might be the one for you. The music, art and story were very enjoyable and you'll most likely find yourself thinking about the wonderful tale of Princess Kaguya during the day.

"I love you, Hotaru."
"Yeah, me too."
It's been about 3 or 4 years now and I still remember every little detail in Hotarubi no Mori e. It's a 45 minute explosion of emotion, colour and stunningly composed music. It's not your typical 'love story', the film offers more than that. It's a story of how love blossoms and can be found in the most unexpected places, how the time we spend with our loved ones is precious, how little things remind us of them, how cruel time is, how love can overcome even the strangest of circumstances. It's the true story of love and kindness and
...
not the 'love story' we get fed by Hollywood movies. Ask yourself, how many times have you seen anything you've seen in movies actually happen to someone?
The story is melancholy and sweet. It's extraordinary yet simple. It warms your heart and makes it ache. It's not to be forgotten. Even though the film is only 45 minutes long, it delivers all of these emotions. The story is original and cannot be remade into something better. Hotarubi no Mori e is the perfect example of unchangeable perfection.
The art is simple yet so adorable and pretty to look at. It draws you in straight away. The settings have been beautifully drawn and applied and even if you watch this film in the middle of a snowstorm, the art will make it feel like it's summer. Sometimes, a little is a lot.
The music is stunning and haunting. It captures every emotion perfectly. Even the sound effects were used in perfect quantity and made it feel like you really were in a certain setting. The ending song was the definition of perfect. It's sad yet delightful at the same time. Even if you don't watch Hotarubi no Mori e, I beg of you to find the ending song. You won't regret it.
The Characters were interesting but toned down so if you were expecting full of energy and out there characters, im sorry to disappoint you. You could see how the characters developed and interacted wonderfully with each other even if they weren't talking. The characters changed each other which is what helped them develop instead of events. That's not something you see very often (at all) in anime so if you'd like something fresh and new then give Hotarubi no Mori e a try.
Overall, I give this movie an 8 (very good). I enjoyed it and even rewatched it. This film will always have a special place in my heart as do some other Studio Ghibli films. Honestly, if you don't watch this film you'll be missing out on a lot. It might sound boring and ordinary but it is far from that and even if you end up not liking it, it's only 45 minutes long.

Subete ga F ni Naru was recommended to me by a friend. There were a lot of good things being said about this anime so I decided to watch it. The first episode wasn't anything special and it didn't really introduce the audience to the story. However, I don't judge an anime by its first episodes so I went along with it. Honestly, I didn't understand what people found so exciting about the first episode, I can only guess it was when Seikawa asked Nishinosono 'What are the 3 big questions of life' to which she replied 'Who am I? Why am I here? And
...
where will I go?' Now, if you like anime with big psychological plots and questions, this might be the perfect anime for you.
The story was different and for the most part kept you interested and involved although there were times where it felt like the story stopped in order for the characters to talk about the deepest of the deepest of stuff. Again, if you like deep and emotional(less) dialogues in anime, this will be perfect for you. As for the pace, the story does start slow and like it doesn't have much to offer but after about 3 or 4 episodes, it does start to get interesting.
The art was dull and gloomy although this does add to the mystery and the eerie feel in the anime. It wasn't anything special so if you decide to watch Subete ga F ni Naru don't expect amazing art. Good News though! If you like funky openings with pretty colours and awesome music then you're going to like the one for Subete ga F ni Naru. It's one of the things that I enjoyed about the anime although when I first watched it I thought the anime was going to be about something completely different.
There's not much to say about the sound. The music used for the opening and the ending was catchy and I have it in my playlist but there wasn't much sound or sound effects, not that I noticed anyway so if there was some music during the scenes, the producers didn't do a very good job at making me realise it therefore making it impossible to appreciate the beauty of music.
The characters were interesting, I don't think there was one character in the anime that I didn't like. Each character looked different and I probably won't be seeing any other anime characters that look similar to the ones in Subete ga F ni Naru. This is another thing that I enjoyed about he anime, the individualistic characters and their simple yet unique design. Their personalities were also all so distinct and contrasting and not one character had the same personality as the other.
Overall, the anime was pretty decent and quite enjoyable although it does start of slow and ordinary but does pick up the pace and keeps the audience wanting more. I wouldn't consider this anime to be a high priority to watch but it definitely deserves to be given a chance, this might one day become a classic.

Being possibly the last film created by Studio Ghibli, it reflects everything the studio stands for: original storyline, colourful art, beautiful music, quirky characters. When Marnie was there doesn't disappoint or lack any of these things. This particular Studio Ghibli movie was a different sort of 'enjoyment' as it made me feel all these different emotions at the same time, it was something I have never experienced before while watching a movie. The story, art, sound and characters worked together in harmony in order to keep you glued to the screen.
The story is based of a book by Joan G. Robinson of the same title.
...
I cannot compare the book and the film together because I haven't read the book but I found the film version extremely moving. There was a feel of tragedy and mystery to the story which is one reason why I enjoyed the movie but what really stood out to me in the story was how original it was; it wasn't just another recycled old story it was unique on its own.
The Art was simple yet alluring. For the whole time that I was watching When Marnie was there I couldn't get over how breathtaking the art and style was. The Art made my heart jump every time which is one of the intriguing feelings I felt while watching When Marnie was there. This is another thing that I enjoyed greatly about the film.
I can only describe the Sound and the Music as delightfully stunning. I often find myself humming the songs from the film and it doesn't look like my habit is going to stop any time soon. The Music is magical and the sound effects realistic giving you a killer combination. The sound in When Marnie was there will hit you in the heart... multiple times.
The Characters are original, fresh and demand you remember them. It's a bummer when the characters in anime or manga start to get boring or less interesting because they are being recycled so much but When Marnie was there gives you new and fantastic characters. At some parts of the movie I tried guessing what the characters will do or say next but I was wrong each time. It was refreshing for the soul to finally see some individualistic characters. Made the film all the more enjoyable.
I won't write what was enjoyable because there are no words to describe how brilliant and excellent When Marnie was there is and can only be enjoyed and understood by experiencing the film yourself. Overall, this film is a masterpiece and gets a tremendous 10.
