To the enjoyment of Another.

*special note the first Paragraph is strictly non- spoilers, the second Paragraph will perhaps have some spoiler slips, so I strongly recommend that for those who wish to read a review after you have seen the series skip to the second Paragraph. Unless you feel my writing is just too good to pass up. ; )

1) Another is an anime produced by P.A Works. The Company of P.A Works have produced several of my personal favorite Anime. Another was a very good overall enjoyment for me, I am not a huge horror fan, nor am I one ... to go for blood & guts in my entertainment. Another was an exception for me. I was introduced to it via friend, though I had seen many fan comments on various anime websites that host the collection of many a fan & anime. From what I saw in the comments and descriptions I read prior to watching, nothing really turned me on to it, I was gladly surprised to find that I was wrong in my previous judgment of the series. I hope that this review will cover most of the potholes I hit on my way to this Anime. First you might hear a lot about violence and death in this series, it is in my personal account over described. I am not saying that this show is innocent enough to let anyone under appropriate guidelines to watch this series. All I am saying is that this Anime has been around the blood pool a few times but not nearly as much as one would be lead to believe without seeing it. Another has a classic feel to it that I like, and look for in Anime, I grew up on the old stuff ( not the really old stuff but old stuff non the less) and when I find a modern Anime that can transport me to a place that is not today I find that that is a sign of high quality. Another will most likely take you ( if you let it ) to a world that is in many ways a world that is a good reflection on the dark side of human nature, it presents many moral decisions that shape each of its characters as water would shape a river bed. The twists that come from the absolute choices made by each character is what makes this Anime almost unpredictable, the time spent with the majority of its characters gives at least an allusion to having known each character on some personal level. It gives the feeling of being in the world of Another, which the very act of capturing an entire world into a format of so many thousand pixels is in and of itself an art form.

Now this may or may not contain spoilers, this paragraph is aimed at those who have already seen Another and had time to process the storyline and it's dialogue. So get if you have not yet seen Another, Jk.;0. So to start off I am not that big into sound when watching an Anime of any kind, meaning that it is not something I remember when I think about it. The things I think of when I remember are almost always, Art, Characters,& Story. When watching however only art and sound are at my foremost thought. So with that out of the way I shall proceed. First I like to start on a downer, I tell bad before good, that way you can cry but still have hope at the end of my speech. The problems I had with Another are few, but still strong enough to come to mind. 1 the series as a whole was too short for a full grasp of the importance of why they had to do what they did ( they being the characters). I understand that we get the legend and myth behind the small town village that has a spiritual phenomena that occurs as an act of natural causes in the universe. This concept is in and of itself brilliant! It instantly made me wonder if they would go into depth explaining how this worked, they said in the series that it occurs like an earthquake or tsunami. So naturally i thought that they would explain this as an earthquake is taught to us in school, only they ( they being the story writers)
would describe this in a way to enhance the already rich flavor of the series. 2 I was really disappointed in the gaps left by the story line, you are lured in to hoping for more when you put the pieces together and find out about there being a twin! Also the fact that one of the character's mother is a disgruntled artist. These are great story lines and arcs painted over by the pace of this series, which leads me into the third and final downer. 3 the ending as a whole was indeed a great ending, but I felt that the climax built up from all the actions that took place only minutes before were wasted by the so very much cliche gloss excuse that was given to explain how this character was the dead one. they should have delved more into the character cookie jar to envelop the viewer whole heart into the finale. Now for the good stuff. I found that the story followed a semi character driven plot, but due to run time, it was not allowed a full character driven plot. This is not bad this is actually a very good canvas to paint on, but this is not the only good thing going for the series. It takes a mixture from a variety of story styles out there in the world of writing & Anime, and it throws them into a blender which makes for a mean energy shake.
