This is only my second review, and my first one wasn't that great so please forgive me if it's awful. So... Ouran High School Host Club... it's about 1 o'clock in the morning and I just finished it and I couldn't be happier.
The Story
The story didn't have really a beginning and an end as much as it had a pattern that slowly moved the series forward (as much as it repeats, it does move forward). I grew to love the pattern, seeing the new outfits, how much trouble the Host Club would cause for Haruhi, and what lesson everyone would learn from
...
the dim witted but laughably noble and kind hearted Tamaki (who has now become one of my all time favorite characters!). Also, the ending was almost perfect, they had me wondering how it would end a few times, but they did not disappoint me like so many other animes.
The Art
The art wasn't supper amazing, but it fit this particular anime's personality well. The show has some serious under tones, but is mostly fun and games. The art reflected that by staying clean (clean in a sense of minimal details) and modest (especially for a romance genre). But there were also times when more detailing was used, which I felt were appropriate and did not take away from what was happening.
The Sound
I'm not all together sure why they have a sound section... I guess some anime's might have particularly fun music worth commenting on but, any how... I guess now that I think about it there are some things to write about. The opening song is really catchy, and it helps that the chorus is english... you'll be getting it stuck in your head a lot. AND, Tamaki plays the piano exquisitely *fan girl drools* I love a guy that's musically inclined :-)
The Characters
If I could have a reverse harem, it would have every member of the Host Club in it :-} Like I said, Tamaki was really entertaining, he was probably drawn in some comical way (like the sad lookin guys with the circles for eyes and no coloring) more often then not. I also really liked Honey, he was really cute. This anime also took good care to fully explain all the major characters, at times this part was kind of depressing, especially the twins, but it just helped add to the finale. Also, once you start watching you may notice all the different groups of people with ambiguous sexual orientations... that part of the show surprised me a little. It was pretty adult content for what seemed to be a younger age anime... but hey I could be wrong. I thought it was interesting how they explored the idea of how gender shouldn't make a difference in how you live you life and treat others. Even though they conveyed it with semi-adult content, they got a across a pretty fundamental life lesson.
Enjoyment!!
Ouran High School Host Club gets a 10/10 for enjoyment! I was laughing the entire time. There was a serious story going on with life lessons being learned and all but mostly it was just screamingly funny! I'm used to watching shounen type animes with lots of action, and blood, and really thick tragic drama. This was a really good change of pace for me and I am happy to say that I have successfully broadened my taste in anime because of it.
Overall Ouran gets a 10/10, there were some parts that might have been improved upon but only just a little, in fact I may not have liked it so much if they'd changed anything about it. I highly recommend you watch this anime, it's funny and cute and heart warming. GO... WATCH!
