First of all: This review is based on my feelings for the series (a lot of people have different opinions based on the genres they like). So if you want to relate if it's something for you, I like in the genres: A balance between action plus adventure and between comedy and gore.
Also, warning before you read this. It has some miner spoilers (as less as possbile)Now let's begin the review:
Story: 8 (very good)
I will be honest, for me was the first episode not "catchy" or a good starter. It didn't really strike me or didn't grab me by the belt. Eventually the story

rolled slowly into place. Here and there it lacked some "power" or information. For me, in my head it was like this: first episode(s) was a slow starter, then it rolled to some gore and mostly comedy, then somewhere on the halve of the anime it gives you a slap of darkness and depression and it doesn't stop for a while. Towards the ending episodes it turns to the "cliché" anime-feel.
Art: 10 (outstanding)
I have nothing to complain about the art. The animation is smooth and well put. The expressions can give you emotions you thought you never had (just kidding). But the emotions that is shown, is made very well. Also I sometimes looked at the eyes of the characters, the reflection is nicely done. Also the (sun)light in their eyes (mostly Subaru) is very good done.
Sound: 10 (outstanding)
Really, I constantly enjoyed every sound played. This includes the following:
- OST (Original soundtrack)
- Voice overs/voice actors/the chosen voices for the characters
- the SFX
OST: The themes they use with the soundtracks are very fittings. At moments of despair, you really feel despair (which is also in combination with the story and animation) because of the music. Moments when something comedic happens, the soundtrack with a touch of comedy plays. And this is for a lot of emotions, very well done.
Voices: The chosen actors fit the character, nothing to be said any further about that. Also, they did a fine job "showing" the emotion of the character.
SFX: Sword slashes, heave-ho sounds, gut-slicing sounds. Perfect. I liked it very much and made me enjoy every time I heard a very fitting SFX being played (which I didn't really have with other anime until now). I think this point is very note-worthy because I don't see a lot of anime with unique SFX.
Character: 8 (very good)
All the characters were well made, sometimes I questioned certain behaviors though. They did things which made my: "wait..... :l whuat?"
Also, some characters which were introduced, and were kind of introduced as some "protoganist" for my feeling, kept being pushed to the sidelines or off screen and only mentions. Which made me question the use of that (kinda like: it's a strong character, and would make this scene too easy solvable... we need him/her out of the way for now). But aside from that, I liked the emotions that were used. VERY good! :D
Enjoyment: 9 (great)
Really, like I explained, the first eps made wanna stop watching. But I knew from friends it was a very good and sad anime, which made me continue (they often help me if I doubt about an anime). I'm glad I made the desicion to watch it further, my garsh my heart.... wait... maybe not so good..... but on the other hand very good hahaha. I previously said it slowly rolled into the story, which was more themed on comedy (in my opinion) which made it okay...... then I rolled into the half of the anime which made me tear up. And when I finished one episode, and convinced myself it would be alright in the next, I teared up worse than I did with the previous episode.
In the end, I liked it VERY much because they play with my emotions very well.
Overall: 9 (great)
I wouldn't say it is an outsanding anime, but at least it's great. To summarize everything I said (for the ones who want a quick opinion): Slow starting story but eventually solved with the half of the anime, AMAZING sound (srsly), characters are lacking in ... "character" and the choosing of certain characters, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
