If you want to learn more about Japanese culture and traditions, those shows are for you. Nihon no Mukashi Banashi will tell you the folktales through short stories that everybody can enjoy without any knowledge of Japan, and those OVA of Rockman/Megaman make you discover the Japanese lifestyle, their customs and festivals. They're also both accessible to children as well as adults.

Ginga e Kickoff!!

I think the main characters are alike, never giving up once they decide of a goal, full of energy and kind to others, always willing to help people in need. Ginga e Kickoff is about soccer while DXW is... well about Digimon, but both feature a group of young boys and girls doing their best, and the themes of friendship and courage have an important place in both.

Best friends who have to fight each other. In both shows those girls are very similar, one bright and full of life and always nice to others, not willing to hurt anyone, and the other serious and kind of noble, but because of this she doesn't have a lot of friends. They become very close, like sisters, but the second one eventually turns evil, and her friend has to make a very hard choice, not willing to fight her but being forced to.

The main characters are kind of alike, powerful warriors not wanting to get along with others but actually caring a lot about their friends, and they are forced to stick with a persistent girl on a journey to search for ancient powers that would help the lord they are kind of serving, who wants to change the corrupted world a bit.

Poyopoyo Kansatsu Nikki

Cat stories, funny and enjoyable. Both show a family adopting a stray cat and seeing it doing extremely cute and funny random stuff during 3-minutes episodes. Chi is closer to reality I think - well Poyo IS a round cat, after all - and the kitty acts like a real kitty would (that's to say : in an extremely cute way). Poyopoyo is a bit exaggerating sometimes, making it funnier in a way but putting the "cute" aside. Chi's also more focused on the cat, as its thoughts are put into words, while in Poyopoyo we have the family's point of view. In short, they are different shows but equally enjoyable, and cat lovers should go watch both immediately.

Smile Precure!
|
Very bright and colorful Magical Girl series that really can make people happy. Maybe Doremi is more childish, the heroines being younger and not having bad guys to fight, only dealing with minor life problems while in Precure there is really a danger of the world being controlled by an evil organization, and the girls have to fight putting their life on the line. So if you're a Precure fan you might not like Doremi too much, but I'm pretty sure that if you like Doremi you will love Smile Precure as well.

Both are about music, and characters who have to deal with complicated love stories and familial issues, as well as being rejected by society. Both also show a strong friendship between two main characters who are totally the opposite but actually closer than with anyone else, and who can support each others in difficult times.

Saki Achiga-hen: Episode of Side-A

Game shows that make us discover great Japanese games such as mahjong (Saki) and karuta (Chihayafuru). I do like Chihayafuru the best, because the plot is far more elaborated, the characters are older, and the general atmosphere is more "serious". Also, you can't really expect to understand rules of mahjong watching Saki, while Chihaya can be watched and enjoyed even if you don't know what karuta is, as it is well explained. I ended up liking karuta after I watched Chihaya, but after 5 episodes of Saki I still don't get a thing about mahjong.

Saki Achiga-hen: Episode of Side-A

Young girls that are reunited in a club (music in K-On!, mahjong in Saki), doing their best to fulfill their great ambitions. In Saki, though, they are more serious about it, really dedicating to mahjong in order to win tournaments (that they start right in the beginning of the series), while K-On!'s atmosphere is more light, and the girls are more doing for fun, even if their final goal is just as ambitious. I think that K-On! is far more developed and has more lovable characters, and of course the music helps a lot, but if you like the genre you might enjoy Saki as well.

Both are really underestimated shows, mostly because of their horrible dubbed versions. Generally, people won't watch One Piece because of the art (that evolves after, though) and the number of episodes, and Pokémon because in the mind of most people, Pokémon = childish. In short, both are great anime in their Japanese version, but are totally ruined by the Americans, turning them into childish and stupid shows.

An ambitious and particularly strong young boy setting on a journey in a vast mysterious world, full of unexplored lands and strange creatures. There he meets friends and face various dangers and enemies in order to fulfill his dream. I would say that One Piece is more about adventure while HxH is more about battle. Maybe HxH is a bit darker too, and OP funnier, but both are great shows.

Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica
|
Both Madoka and the Precure series are originals Magical Girls that can be watched and enjoyed by grown-ups. While Madoka is very dark and psychological, Fresh Precure is bright and colorful but has a really interesting plot and thus is not only for children. Both anime start like your common Mahou Shoujo, with a girl meeting a magical creature and discovering that she can have magical powers ; but then it evolves to an elaborated story with unexpected turning of events. While in Madoka the change occurs suddenly at episode 3, it happens little by little in Fresh Precure, the heroines starting to understand that their task will be far more complicated than expected. Also, in both anime, the characters are very appealing and we get attached to them easily, even to the enemies that are not always totally evil but more often tormented and confused.
