Have you ever watched a movie that when it ends, provoque you to think "OH MY F*CKING GOD.....WHAT THE F*CK DID I JUST WATCH" ?
Well, if you haven't, watch Paprika and try to not thinking it.
Man, i am the guy who put in my favorite anime Death Leaves and score with a 9 mind game, a literally acid psychodelic trip made movie and her i am, saying that paprika is such a weird movie with a storytelling level house of leaves that shocked me more than the two other movies together.
The least i can say, probably you'll need to watch it two or three times,
...
thanks to MAL database, i realized that paprika (the Character) is the alter-ego of another character: if i hadn't search this info, i would probably get confused more than a half of the movie.
The problem isn't the story, really isn't that complicated (except for the konakawa's side plot), the complicated is trying to not loose your mind for all the weird stuff that's going on, one thing after another without rest, you get in a point when you naturally stop to understand the plot and give up letting the bizarreness come to your eyes.
Probably because the point of the plot is scientists getting in dreams and trying to surviving theme, satoshi kon-sensei wanted to put the dreams as realistic as they are in real life, the reason for what the movie is too hard to understand is because the dreams are hard to understand, and all of we have falling in this rabbit hole like complete fools...hehe...hehehaha.....ha...ha....haha....HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

OK, this is my second review and it may not be very professional but it is my most honest opinion minutes after watching this movie...
A long time ago i've heard about Wicked City because a lot of anime youtube channels like banzai pop and watchmojo and they represented it as a ultra insane degenerate movie, i think if i watched the movie in 2016 or 2017, it'll blow my mind too much to the point at being traumatized for life because my inexperiece in anime...but the don't count that i've already seen a lot of hentai manga and anime before watching this movie (i just
...
don't put this stuff on MAL) and....it's not to scary, in fact: it's a "meh" i guess.
STORY: A super gigachad 80's testosterone sigma Dick Deckard male hero named taki renzaburo is a bodyguard in a world where demons and humans coexists, and he's involved in a conspiracy about a peace treaty between the two races, i will not say spoilers because you may watch all the weird stuff that's going on in this movie, it's incredible.
CHARACTERS: Not to important, they are retro stereotypes with barely deep lore.
ART: OH MY GOD IT'S BEATUIFUL GOD DAMNIT, YOU MAY WATCH THIS F*CKING AWESOME AESTHETIC VAPORWAVE NEON CYBERPUNK FUTURISTIC NEO TOKYO NOIR BACKGROUNDS OF THIS MOVIE, WHOEVER PAINTED THE BACKGROUNDS AND CREATED THE SUPER BADASS GUN OF RENZABURO, IT WAS MY IDOL.
HOT CONTENT: If you watch this movie with the intention of watch boobs, many boobs, TOO MANY boobs, A LOT of boobs and tentacle "sekkuzu" it's your movie, but you don't get hyped: the movie don't show it at all, i thought it was REAL hentai but probably i had a wrong idea of the movie.
I put it a 6 because the aesthetics are great (the セックス scenes too), super retro and probably a worth watching as an artist, but just that.

I've seen this movie a long time ago, specifically around 12-13 years old when I saw it on a pirate anime page that a friend recommended to me and where I watched most of the anime in my puberty.
Before anyone gets mad at rating it as low as 6, I'll tell you why. To begin with, I was too young to understand the movie, I saw the series and the movie because some YouTubers said it was a masterpiece and at that time I was obsessed with rare anime movies from the 80s and 90s, the 1st minutes was like "ah This happened in the
...
series finale, didn't it? " then it went to "what? NERV has been besieged" from that to "why did Misato kiss Shinji?" and then go to "or hell, more thoughts of the main character", then "... Eh? Why everything is destroyed? Why Azuka fights against the robots those targets? THAT'S DAMN GREAT" and in the end something like "WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING? ???", in conclusion. An emotional chaos. After that, I had to watch videos on youtube to understand 3/4 of the movie.
What I liked about the movie is that it presents what happened outside of Shinji's thoughts (where the end of the series took place) as a more general ending, with which everything that is outside the protagonist is concluded , it is as if they were 2 routes of a visual novel and when putting the 2 together the true route is formed, even to put us in context of what was happening with shinji, they put scenes that happened in chapters 25 and 26 in various parts of the film of the series, only that that confuses the viewer more.
My conclusion would be that it is a very good film, that despite having a very hasty ending, it knew how to give the best that the series could give in this feature film. If you are a 12-year-old boy who has only seen 2 ecchi animes in his entire life and wants to see evangelion because it was recommended by some guys on the internet, you should follow these steps:
1-See the entire series up to chapter 24.
3-Watch the movie until it reaches 1h 18min. 30 sec.
4-See chapters 25 and 26 of the series.
5-Pick up the movie where you left it.
Yes. I have not seen the movie again (more than 10 years ago) but I remember the time I saw it like the back of my hand.
