Both Manga are adaptations of a popular JRPG. The two manga take the story you're familiar with and translate it to the printed page with a few changes here and there story and length wise. The Valkyrie Profile manga takes a lot of liberties with the story, and leaves out a lot of critical information so playing the game before reading is recommended. VP is rather short and doesn't introduce anywhere near the full cast of characters, but manages to deliver a decent 'companion story' if you've played the game. Suikoden III is much more complete, and is truer to the source material then VP. One could read Suikoden III without first playing the game and still get enjoyment out of it.

Both stories feature a basic "lord of the flies" story of a group of kids finding themselves stranded without adults and needing to find a way to survive their situation and eachother. Ryvius took place on a space ship with a large cast of children trying to survive military attacks over a huge misunderstanding. Uninhaited Planet focuses on a much smaller group of kids that crashed on a wild planet after the ship they were taking their field trip on blows up. It follows their trials and tribulations as they encounter wild monsters, pirates, alien organisms, unexplained phenomena, and even their clashing personalites.
