I am not really familiar with the plot of Final Fantasy XV, nor did I have any particular expactations about this movie - I watched it pretty much on a whim, but I don't coonsider it a time wasted. While it lacked a lot of things - the lip sync was off, there were a few too many loopholes and unexplained plot developments, and the story WAS fairly simple. Even taking all this into consideration, it was rather fun and engaging watching this. I liked both the animation and the music. The action sequences were entertaining, but a bit chaotic, and it was sometimes a
...
bit difficult to tell what's going on(altough I guess that's usually the case with action sequences). This is far from a must-watch, but I can't help but disagree with people that give this movie the lowest of scores, because while it has many shortcomings, somehow, magically, it's still enjoyable to see.

Let me start by saying that I was really looking forward to watching Bamboo Blade, having a passing interest in kendo(not exactly practicing it, but rather being curious about it), and I wish I could give Bamboo Blade a higher score than I have. Bamboo Blade has an amazing cast, great voice acting(seriously, the shouts are quite believable and they don't sound forced - and there's a lot of shouting in kendo) and engaging action sequences - with a memorably soundtrack to top it all off. However, it falls flat when it comes to character development and story. Half of the cast doesn't really change
...
much in terms of personality - I'd go as far as to say that on occassion, some of the characters are completely ignored, appearing for a scene or two, which doesn't seem right if they are considered part of the main cast. What's worse is that this time is instead spent on possibly one of the duller characters - Tama, who sadly evolves into the protagonist of the show. Don't get me wrong, she isn't a bad character, but I feel Bamboo Blade had a perfect set up for a "decentralized" show, where each character was important, but midway they arbitrarily decided that Tama is to take 3/4 of the spotlight. All in all, as far as story is concerned, I feel like the team behind Bamboo Blade was figuring it out as they went - some plot decisions seemed odd to me, as if made in haste. I think this is generally a fine anime that had quite some potential, but made the wrong turns.

At the time of writing this review, I have watched around 50 anime series and movies, and not once have I encountered one as appalling as Fate/Stay Night. Poor character development, atrocious characters, nonsense dialogue and predictable action sequences - this anime's got them all. The music and art were fine I suppose, but hardly anything remarkable - definitely something forgettable. The story was generic and predictable, therefore there isn't much to cover on that front.
First off, the character development. Well, it's nonexistent, so there's not much to talk about on this front either. All of the characters stay more or less the same as
...
the moment you meet them.
The characters. Good God. The protagonist is a classic Mary Sue with plot armor thick as fog, with neither smart, nor brawn, but a lot of naivete. He's completely unlikable and forgettable. Oh, and he also happens to be pretty damn sexist - he forbids his servant(whose sole existence revolves around fighting for his sake) from taking up the sword because...she's a woman. The other characters are slightly less annoying, but just as one-dimensional.
Nonsense dialogue. If you know the quote "People die when they're killed" - that's where its from. Yup. It's from Fate/Stay Night, and while since that phrase's glory days are long over and the translation has improved...there's still no meaning beneath the shallow dialogues, which goes from stating the obvious multiple times to constantly saying each other's names(seriously, I've heard the name "Saber" called out about 10 times in every single episode for no real reason).
Well, I guess there was SOME amount of merit to be found in the action sequences. They were okay, if it was not for the fact that you knew precisely where things will pick up next as the scene unfolded before you. There were no surprises on that front. Something I found hilarious was the usage of random german words(as spells) and one of the characters suddenly monologuing in english for no real reason mid-fight(I suppose I didn't see that coming).
TL;DR Do not watch this. This is EXACTLY what people who say "Anime is trash" have in mind.
