Oshi no Ko, the new seasonal hype of spring 2023 that left me speechless when it had gotten such a high rating.
This show revolves around the criticism and the challenges endured by the idols in J-pop industry. Tbf, it is applied to all parts of the world and is the new issue that leads to most of the casualties in this sector. On reading the synopsis, most of the ppl might be thinking
that this is just the story about a doctor who is into an idol and got Isekaied supposedly when her beloved got pregnant and this is just some dumpster fire and fanservice.
But no,
...
this lays just a good foundation to the relationship between Gorou or Aqua in his new life with his mother Ai. In his past life, he started watching the idol industry because of a patient Sarina who suffered from a disease, who passed away loved idols. He honoured her feelings and came to love idols himself. Killed by a stalker who was keeping tabs on Ai, he was distraught that he couldn't be by her side when she was delivering her two twins.
After he was incarnated, it had some comedy and wholesome moments. Their interactions are absolutely hilarious. But as the episode gradually moves on, u see the drama in the genre given to this title. When Ai tried to contact the kids father she accidentally gave away her location to the stalker. After this the drama and emotions were too high. On her grand dome performance, in the morning, she was brutally stabbed by the stalker who had brought flowers to her home disgusing his knife among them. I won't tell the dialogues here and rather recommend to watch for urself. But u felt pity and anguish after seeing Ai state. And when she died it was gruesome to see. The face of her lying in blood with Aqua desperately trying to call the ambulance is heart-wrenching and Ruby standing on the other side seeing it unfold it. It shatters a person. The way the untimely twist was brought it was just unbelievable.
What made the scene accentuate was that they were not kids who thought that their mother would wake up. They are grown-ups in a child body. They know what death entails. And that added an whole another level to it and terrification of them. It broke Aqua so much that he wanted to avenge Ai's death and slowly turning into a monster.
After it there is a time skip, and the anime take sorta of the route of comdey and all the challenges faced by the up and coming teenagers. Though u might be asking, is it worth watching?
Obviously, the way the manga has been written is incredible despite its very few flaws. The drama and mixed feelings that u feel are very good compared to all the shit isekais been produced. The comedy cuts the serious tone at good timing, which makes it extremely watchable and entertaining. Its flaws are negligible. In my opinion, Ruby is underdeveloped as of now and she didn't feel like exacting revenge when it should have been that way. Though she provides comedy, so it can be overlooken.
Overall, it's a good anime and is an absolute must-watch. This anime deserves the hype as it written by the two well-found mangakas
of Kaguya-Sama and Scum's Wish.
