Shangri-La Frontier looks pretty and is decently animated. Those are the only positives I have for this show.
This is poorly written, and in an infuriatingly way. The MC is an idiot, and the author clearly doesn't understand MMOs or skills or anything. Lucky things happen to him, he doesn't see the real value of things, and people are incompetent in general.
I will say one thing before I go on my tangent. If you just want to look at a flashy anime, without a single thought in your head - you might enjoy this. I was fooled initially into thinking this was good, but at one

point the cracks just became bigger and bigger.
Spoiler warning, but honestly it doesn't matter.
- He gets cursed and can't wear armour, which is an obvious downer. But he is now resistant to magic, which probably nobody else has. This is fantastic for a speed build like he's aiming for, but instead he's only upset. He briefly tests the fear thing for lower level creatures which is also fantastic to have in an mmo - as I'm sure many have experienced just wanting to get through an area fast and pulling lots.
- He decides to not invest a single new point into his health points, because according to his words, "he'll get 1-shot anyway since he can't wear armour". YET! Up to this point there has been multiple examples of that being completely untrue! And what is he gonna do about unavoidable damage? All MMOs have cases of that happening. You want some HP regardless of what you are doing.
- He gets collared from a rare event. He now gains 50% less experience, he's in deep despair! Oh no! And never does he point out, or realise that he also gains 2.5 times more stats than anyone else from levelling up! Sure it's slower now, but he has the potential to just have more stats than anyone else in the game! What does he do with this information? "LETS SKIP ALL THE TRASH MOBS AND FIGHT THE BIG ONES!"
And if this wasn't bad enough, when he completes the trial given to him, HE LOSES THE COLLAR??????????? I can't with this show, and I don't understand why it still has such a high rating.
And then there is the whole rival pvp scene, which should have just ended instantly considering that he's so low level that he can't even see anyone's level. What's even going on?! How strong is the protagonist plot shield???
I dislike this show extra for giving me false hope about a decent VRMMO. In fact it's been bothering me so much that I decided to write this review, because I feel its rating is way too high on this site.
