Oh Citrus. This series may be the most debated over yuri anime of all time (Candy Boy is worse but lesser known). It is known for being controversial due to it being stepsisters who have just met along with some nonconsensual advances. Not every anime series especially yuri has to have characters without flaws. I am not condoning what happens in Citrus, but any of the major criticism online stops at those points.
I think everyone approaches this with well this is not a healthy relationship or representation, the show is awful. I think people who have not read the manga and went in blind

Carnival Phantasm
(Anime)
add
For any Type-Moon fan, you must watch this! It is an OVA comedy series with all of the characters from Fate Stay/Night and Tsukihime. Even if you only know about one of the two series, it is enjoyable. Each episode has the characters in different situations and shenanigans. These include a race, shopping trip, working at a cafe, etc. The full series subbed can be found easily on Youtube. It is nice to see everyone from such dark shows in fun, light-hearted situations. It may be my favorite Type-Moon anime series, and I have watched it through several times. 10/10 recommend!

Candy Boy was one of the few yuri series out around fifteen years ago. People were starved for content. If you thought Citrus was questionable, this is 100x worse. The animation and styling of the characters is great. However, that is all it really has going for it. Candy Boy is about a love affair between a pair of biological twins. Throughout the episodes there is tension and pining. I watched this in middle school so like any other yuri fan at the time, I watched it and liked that lesbian romance was shown in anime. If you somehow ignore the fact that they are

Boruto: Naruto the Movie
(Anime)
add
So Boruto itself as a whole catches a lot of flack from original series fans. I find this film to be my favorite Naruto franchise film. It is a great introduction to the new generation of ninja and also is a nice revisit to past characters. You have to go into Boruto itself knowing that it is not Naruto or Naruto Shippuden, it is its own entity, and it is best to be open minded. The movie takes place around the new generation of ninjas' chunin exams. I will not spoil any plot, but the film features both these new children but also the adults

Yagate Kimi ni Naru
(Anime)
add
Yagate Kimi ni Naru (Bloom Into You) is a shoujo ai anime that has come out the same time as similar faulty works such as Citrus and Sakura Trick. The series is just "ok". Yuri fans are extremely starved for content which is where I think a lot of the positivity towards the series comes from. The animation is gorgeous so the series has that going for it it. However, it is not an amazing pillar of the yuri genre. One girl is enthusiastically into the other. The other girl struggles with identity in both romance and sexuality. The anime feels really forced to push

Blend S is a lighthearted slice of life about girls of all different types working in a maid cafe. Throughout the series you find out more about each maid shown in the intro and how they interact with other employees and customers. Each of the maids caters to a specific demographic like the opening says of "smile, sweet, sister, sadistic, surprise". I think the memes that spawned from this show catapulted it into popularity. It is a cute show, but do not expect deep plot or it to be an anime masterpiece. It is an easy, watch while eating dinner series.

Kuroshitsuji II Specials
(Anime)
add
The Kuroshitsuji OVAs are honestly the best anime media of the series. The three best parts are Ciel in Wonderland, The Making of Kuroshitsuji II, and the Tale of William the Shinigami. They are all fun and lighthearted comedy. Do not go into it expecting serious content. They are all great because you can get a deeper look into each character, especially background information on the shinigami. Even if you were not huge on the regular series storylines, I think these are fun to try out if you enjoy the manga. I am not even into Black Butler anymore and still find these to be

Kuroshitsuji II
(Anime)
add
The second season of Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) basically is let's add a second pairing of young boy and demon and do the same show again. I think it really ignited the yaoi craze of the time and the pairings from this season specifically really took off when it came out. If you are reading this, I assume you have already watched the first season. This season is nothing groundbreaking and also ends on a weird rushed finish. The true shining star honestly is the opening "Shiver" by the Gazette. The animation level was also a big step up from season one. It truly is just

Kuroshitsuji
(Anime)
add
Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) was a staple anime in the late 2000s/early 2010s. It was an introduction to yaoi for a lot of people especially when it was added to Netflix. It does deal with a pairing of an underage boy and a fully grown demon fair warning. I am judging this based from both a nostalgia aspect and looking reflectively.
If you are expecting hardcore, serious demons and romance, this is not for you. It has a decent storyline to supplement the main reason people watch it. There are comedic moments and comedy relief characters. Both the sub and dub do it justice in my ... Jun 20, 2022
I think the SuperS specials are a great addition to the series itself. For Haruka and Michiru fans especially, you get some of their best scenes together in their special especially with them not being in the SuperS season itself. The episodes are fun and fast paced. They also show off the peak of the dreamy disco artistry that Sailor Moon achieved in later seasons. I definitely recommend giving them a watch. There is nothing too deep that happens, just basic enemy appears/fight plot. They are not to be taken too seriously, just fun filler to grow closer to the characters and get deeper insight.
