I'm watching this alongside Shangri-La Frontier as their episodes release a day apart from one another.
I wonder if you can guess which power-fantasy I like more...

Here's a hint: One makes me wonder what kind of forbidden 'used car salesman' magic the marketing team had to use to sell this dumpster fire, and the other is Shangri-La Frontier

Characters can either make or break a story. Supporting characters tend to either die or turn their pants brown until Jinwoo stops the danger. The antagonists haven't gotten above their mustache-twirling "hehe I'm a bad guy watch me be SUPER EVIL" bit. Seriously, Hwang Dongsoo is and has been ... trying harder than a 12 year old edgelord. Jinwoo STILL has the charisma of an undecorated bland-colored wall, which *somehow* attracts Song-Yi to him. The episode where he finally gets to show some emotion (in a scene that I'll defend as a 10/10) was, for some mystery reason, met with pushback from audiences.

Just like in S1, the power-scaling escalates faster than a shotgun wedding. There are no stakes in any of the battles, Jinwoo superpowered assassin shtick is just way too high-leveled, and that's not even taking the massive army of shadows behind him into account. It's well-animated but I've had more amusement watching stick figure battles, because at least with those I didn't catch on to the fact that the central protagonist has had and will always have plot armor thicker than the fur on his polar bear minion. I'm not invested in Jinwoo enough to cheer him on, as much as I am just begging for a more interesting character to steal the spotlight. If Jinwoo stayed as a twink and had to focus more on necromancy while having that smaller weak body, the dynamics would be 1000% more interesting. Sadly, it's all a game of numbers, and if Jinwoo's just too consistently ahead to the point where there's nobody to humble him.

TL;DR too much gassing up for a bland protagonist, both within the story's universe and outside of it.
