The best thing about this anime is the mystery and the dark vibe in the atmosphere. I always enjoy when there are different sides to a story. How each sides have different views of justice, but the bottom line is that we're not much different from the prejudices and stereotypes we all hate so much. One cannot judge everyone in the same category. It's like saying: "many black people are criminals, therefore, all black people are criminals". I liked that message, I found it intriguing.
This show lacks in character development, the story feels rushed (though it IS only 12 episodes), they censor a great
...
deal of bloody and violent scenes, which I found quite annoying, and the different special powers each ghoul has is stunningly cool looking, but each ability isn't as unique as I wanted them to be. Overall it's a good anime to kill time, but it'll easily vanish away from my memories as the years go by. Nothing memorable, in other words.

This truly is a unique anime, but it lacks something in all departments. I found this anime quite overrated, considering how much potential it had. The pacing is horrible, the music (especially the piano score) is annoying and some of the voices sound so unnatural (Patty, Soul, Maka), and the art varies a whole lot (the character's noses annoyed me). Still, I've never had so many mixed emotions about a show. I found myself annoyed, confused, curious. bored, excited, sleepy, refreshed, amused, intrigued and laughing. Mostly because the episodes varies so insanely much.
But the show indeed has a cool feel to it, with a unique
...
steam punk style, with different abilities and personalities in each character, a cool concept (shinigamis, witches, samurais, shinobis, magic, demons) and a whole new world we unfortunately get to see and experience little to nothing of, since almost everything revolves around Death City, an illusion or inside someones head...
Soul eater can also be quite funny at times and the anime has its quirks and charm. It's not the characters, it's not the concept, it's not even the story, but how the story is told that I have a problem with. Soul Eater's character development is frankly quite annoying... since almost everything they experience happens inside their head.. and some abilities aren't even explained, suddenly they just get this epifani and BOOM, there's a new ability.
The story is quite intriguing actually, and it's what kept me going. Making it one of the few animes I haven't dropped midway through. But it had so much potential here. It should have been darker, more violent, more serious. One of the most positive things about this anime is actually hitting a good joke at the right moment, but the show doesn't really get any serious until the last 5 episodes or so, and these are the episodes I found most amusing (I stand corrected: All the episodes where we get to see Lord Death in his true form). Actually, the whole series should've been more like the last episode. At least the fight sequences.
Several of the characters are just too annoying and gets far too much screen time (Excalibur, Crona, the guy with saws) and some get way too little screen time, especially in fights (this includes almost all the characters). The ultimate bad guy, however, is just plain bad ass (Kishin).
As I wrote earlier, Soul Eater lacks pacing in all departments, not just in the character development, but how the story is told, not to mention the most annoying thing about this anime, the fights. Some of the fights could have been really epic, instead there's always a bunch of talking, a reason for not fighting or not going all-out or one of the sides just forfeits. A battle would just end, just as the climax hits. I kept thinking that we'll probably get to see a real fight by them soon, but some battles never actually finishes... it just ends.. Not to mention how almost every single fight is interrupted by some kind of illusion, dream or thought sequence inside one of the main character's head. It could have been cool, but it just ruins the suspension and climax in the fight, since they keep over-using it!
Now back to the story... the different arcs varies a lot. Some of the arcs feel rushed, and some of the backstories of the characters could have gotten more depth and better told. (I would love knowing more about Spirit's backstory, Lord Death and Black star). I find myself thinking that the series could have been a lot better if there were more episodes (but then again, a lot of the episodes are just simply garbage).
Overall I actually did enjoy the series and I can see why there are so many fans. The characters are lovable and funny. Their friendship and loyalty warms your heart. The concept is cool and refreshing, the abilities are unique and intriguing, the weapons are huge and deadly. The world they have created is exciting and amusing, but it could have been so much better.

Keke. first of... I didn't enjoy this as much as other anime freaks out there !! And u can call me a huuuge anime freak !! I would not call this a review, more a guidance to if u should watch it or not
It's a very artistic and philosophical movie... which means it's not for everyone !! Not everyone will get it.. not everyone will understand it.. and for a movie with such high praise, there will always be prejudice and criticism.. This movie did not touch me with all the philosophical stuff and all the questions asked about life.. but I can
...
see how it did for others !! For meh... for something to be deep, u really have to care for the characters and really understand them. And this is where GITS failed. The Major was made to robot'ish to really care for her feelings and what she questioned (Am I a robot, or am I human just cause ppl treat me like I am). In my eyes, she was just a robot and her ghost (soul) could always get another body.. so I didn't really care to much for her... The thing with the Major never blinking was made purposely... cause director Oshii wanted her to look more like a doll... it just didn't work for meh... Human emotions are a part of what makes u human, and In the movie... The Major is more robot than she is in the series... so no empathy on mah behalf...
The animation, the plot and how creative things are done was what intrigued meh. (what makes u human!?) I'm also a huuuge fan of creative artists using others's materials and making em their own. (like a true japanese). There are aloot of segments in the film which f.eks inspired people like the wachowski brothers to make The Matrix (they even stole some scenes, right of the bat)!! And some scenes in GITS are just groundbreaking to look at !! Not to mention GITS is hugely inspired by Neuromance and Blade Runner !!
Picture this movie coming out when u were older... u had never seen anything similar to it.. not anything even near it.. and u watch it for the first time !! It's mesmerising, groundbreaking, tansparent !! That's why this movie is considered so highly rated.. It's easy for people like me, who didn't see the movie until years later, to criticize it's philosophy, themes and moral, and say I've alrady seen this... this is nothing special..
This movie is wether u like it or not, groundbreaking in every single way !! The Animation, story, characters and not to mention the very creative awesome futuristic world GITS have created for us !! (the animation then, was unmatched.. nuthin could even compare)
This movie have inspired alot of people.. including huuuge artists in the movie business...Quentin Tarantino has even stated that this is the best animated movie EVER.. James Cameron (Avatar), Michael Bay (The Island) and as I said.. The Matrix came out of it.. and that was also a groundbreaking movie which every movie geek to date has either seen or heard of !! And guess what!? The Matrix also inspired other movie makers aswell !! And GITS was part of this !!
This is not everyone's cup of tea !! It certainly was not mine, because of the slow pacing in the story and the under developed characters !! I enjoy the series alooot more !! But, if u call urself a movie and anime freak !! This is a MUST SEE !! It is a classic, inspirational and agroundbreaking movie, wether u like it or not !! So pretty plz... don't be one of the ignorant assholes calling this an overrated movie...

First things first... This will be mah first EVER Review... plus, I wouldn't even bother calling it a review... I'd say more of a guide to why U should watch this show !! I will edit and write more when the series comes to a final. Until then, this is loosely based on the first episode, since thereis only one out !!
Over the years, I've been struggling to find time to really sit down and enjoy many different Anime (oh, the joy of being a teenager again). There are soo many Animes out there, and very few good ones to say the least... I used
...
to be the one that watched everythang, hoping for the next big Anime in life. But w00t I found was dissappointment after dissapointment. So I started narrowing thangs down a bit... now I basically only watch new released Anime. Since those are the ones I tend to like the most. But even so... there hasn't been any Anime that has REALLY blowed mah mind, since the 2009 period. (Clannad AS, Hatsukoi Limited, Toradora etc...) A show that would gief meh back a reason to watch Anime...(except 2nd seasons of good shows) because I am not getting any younger... and where I am from, Anime is not very popular... It's considered geeky, weird and childish in many comparisons, but that's probably why I luv it so much !! Liking somethin that the majority doesn't... It becomes more "special" d; )
But now I think I've finally found it in: Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae wo Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai, also known as Ano Hana. The Anime was able to shockingly surprise meh !! I was mesmerized from the gecko. The story and staff was w00t interested meh the most. The story seemed beautiful !! And I felt this was a story not only I, but mostly everyone that is growing up to adulthood can relate too. U sit back and remember how wonderful, easy and problem free, life used to be. But not only do people change, ur surroundings and way of thinking aswell. U lose touch with old friends and family, u perhaps wish u still had contact with. U get new priorities, more responsibilites, and less time.
I mahself is blessed with still having contact with most of mah childhood friends, but I don't see em as often as I used to. Mostly during holidays etc... and even then, it's hard to find time for each other. But, not only that... people DO change, and some of mah friends that used to be all lively, and easy-going, are drenched in responibilites, rules, goals and ambitions. Not to mention, some has married and gotten children... so thangs will never be the same... NOT that this is a negative thang...
But u still look back sometimes, wishing thangs could be more like back in the dayzz.
The music and art was w00t surprised meh the most. The art is exceptional good. The backgrounds, the characters, everythang is so smuuuth and detailed. And they've created the perfect setting and mood for the show. It giefs a nostalgic, summerfeel about it, but also perfectly mixes a melancholy mood in it all. The first episode gave me a huge SMILE on mah face, and also gave meh the longing for summer.
The music is also very good. They have chosen the right songs to fit the mood and settings for the show. Which for meh means everythang to get out the feelings and emotions of a person. So expect a tear-jerking finale, or at least a bitter-sweet one !!
d; )
Ano Hana Has the same director as Honey & Clover and Toradora,
The same script writer as Toradora and True Tears. Which means... I have lots of expectations for this show. It is also an original work. Which means it's not based on any manga or game.
Considering the first episode and the history and experience of the staff, I do not think this is one of the shows that will dissappoint !! Hopefully it will live up to mah expectations, and if they stick to the theme and don't do anythang to cliché, this show will most def end up in mah favorites !!
Feedbacks are always welcome, both negative and positive !!
But REMEMBER, this was mah first review... and the show is still not finished d; )
