What can I say that hasn't already been said a thousand times? There's no beating around the bush, Pupa is an awful anime. It even has a reputation of being one of the worst anime of all time, which I agree with. It's so devoid of positive aspects I'm convinced the only reason people were able to finish it at all was the series's short length.
Art: This is one of the better aspects of the show and it's still awful. The character designs are mediocre but the backgrounds look like a watercolor painting by a preschooler. It clashes horribly with the much more neatly animated
...
characters and is a general eyesore. The worst thing about the visuals though is the censorship. People watch trashy horror movies for the ridiculous gore. Removing it takes all the fun out of it. And Pupa is incredibly inconsistent with censorship. A pile of dead bodies is ok but a knife isn't.
Sound: Not much to say here. Voice acting, ost, and the opening and ending were all mediocre at best but there's not much to complain about either.
Plot: Wait, you're telling me this anime had a plot? To me it just looked like a bunch of vaguely connected, disturbing, and nonsensical scenes tied together. There isn't even a real conclusion and viewers are left with far more questions and answers. I dislike endings that don't leave anything at all to the imagination but you have to give the audience something. They watched your show till the end and expect something for it. Trying to comprehend this anime's story is frustrating to say the least.
Characters: Honestly, the only notable characters are the main brother/sister duo. And they have no personality. None. The brother is the typical "sweet, protective onii-chan" and his sister is just the helpless and adorable younger sister. That's all there is to them. I couldn't even tell you their names.
Overall: Don't watch this anime. It would only take up about 50 minutes of your time but that time could be spent doing something much better. Like reading a book. Drawing. Watching a superior anime. Masturbating. Just do something else unless you want a perfect example of how not to make an anime. Pupa is a trainwreck from start to finish and is not worth your time.
