So... this movie is really dark.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Many of my favorite anime are dark as well. I gave the first season a 10/10, and I had high hopes for the movie. It was off to a great start, the worldbuilding and foreshadowing were on point.

Then we get introduced to a character named Prushka, who is the "daughter" of Bondrewd, someone we already know did terrible things to Mitty and Nanachi. I knew something bad was gonna happen to her from the start, she was way too trusting in Bondrewd.
The movie does a great job of establishing the ... relationship between Prushka and Riko.

The movie was dark, but I was still enjoying it a lot, just like the first season, up until the halfway point.
Now for the parts I didn't like.

The Reveal that white whistles were made out of somebody felt forced. First of all, why not just make it like you made the other whistles? What's the point? Second, how the hell is every white whistle able to find someone willing to be their whistle? Third, wouldn't many white whistles refuse the idea of becoming a white whistle when told how a white whistle is made? It doesn't really fit into the rest of the story.

Look, I get that Prushka really trusts Bondrewd, but after being put through all that, why does she still fully trust him? Like, he put you through living hell and is now trying to kill your friends.

Otherwise, the final fight was pretty good.

So yeah, the movie was pretty good but some forced dark plotpoints didn't sit right with me.

And, as an overall complaint, there wasn't really any meaningful takeaway from the movie. The takeaway from season 1 is, sometimes you have to do something hard or even painful because you know it's the right thing to do. The takeaway from the movie is... Some people will do anything in the pursuit of science... ANYTHING! 😱

Also, the sexualization of minors scenes are very weird, but you've seen that in other reviews.
