I actually could go on and on with compliments about this show-- it might really be the only show I have watched where I have no complaints whatsoever, and nothing that irks me in the slightest. It has some crazy highs and makes me feel as hype as Bleach and as emotional as Maquia. In all categories it really does go above and beyond.
Animation is 10/10, pacing: 10/10, story: 10/10, characters: 20/10, VA: 10/10, ost: 10/10.

anime is a masterful feat. By the end, as long as you are watching the show with full intent, you are able to understand the motives and priorities of each of the characters. They're all realistic and endearing but aren't perfect humans either. If you talk about their skills and power relative to one another it really does feel like they're all so unique and have strength that warrants their place in the anime. Maturity and knowledge and their own ways to deal with problems that have all led them here. It feels much better than having a character "win" just because of pure plot armor or introducing a character who is so obviously weaker than everyone else who is somehow amongst the rest of the strong cast (theres a lot of these).
And in terms of the actual magic system within the anime. Its explained in very simple terms but also dives into the complexities and the growth of magic over time. The explanations of defensive magic were always so interesting to hear about and it really made sense with how the battles played out. And all of it actually isnt just made up bullshit either. It stays consistent throughout the anime and you can really feel that the world was well thought out.
And while we're talking about the battles.. man did the battles look amazing. The animations were so clean and the roaring battle themes during the most hype parts had me feeling tingles. Having battles of wit with cool action-- giving the perfect balance.
I mentioned not having any complaints and one question might be: "but dont you think the start is too slow?" And to answer that my answer is just "no". Not only do I think it was a perfect way to introduce the characters and delve deep into the hero party's background but it was still interesting every episode. While the later episodes had us engrossed in cool battles and sick characters, the earlier episodes gave us the much needed build for the characters that we will follow thrughout the entire anime. Emotional and sentimental parts of this anime (which there are many of) would not have had their impact without knowing and feeling the story of Frieren.
This is truly a 10/10 anime that I get to add to my list of favorite anime of all time.
Bonus collection of thoughts when I was at ep 20:
I wasn’t going to type anything about this show until I finished but every episode I really am impressed with how well this show was made. They’ve now gone into a shonen type tournament battle but in my opinion the side characters that are put into play are much more realistic and human than normal shonen characters. They act in a very believable manner and are each obviously respectably skilled. Instead of relying on flashy moves to show the audience that they are strong they rely on the impression of their actual character to show it. The man who would have been depicted as a cold hearted killer is not only just not like that but he isn’t a cliche softie either. He’s someone who kills when he has to but hesitates to do so when he doesn’t need to. It’s also refreshing to see that the mages don’t freak out when they find out frieren is THE frieren.
They’re noticeably somewhat surprised but they all know of her existence and the possibility of it, they don’t downplay their own ability so it doesn’t seem like they’re treating her like a celebrity or anything. Every episode, from those with no action whatsoever, to the very battle heavy ones, are done so well that I am still engaged in what seems to be a rather slow plot. I’m not one ride bandwagons but I think that the story and characters are just so well crafted that I have yet to hate any of them. There’s nobody that gets on your nerves and yet everyone is so unique and quirky in their own ways. I especially love the hero party for having their own personalities that have been noted to have been romanticized over time so that nobody but Frieren and close people know their true personalities. But even though they’re weird and anti characters of their symbols they are all looked upon fondly by both Frieren and the audience. Stark and fern are obviously also great additions to the story where you get to see fern grow alongside Frieren and her great potential as a mage, and stark is such a refreshing way to go about the typical coward character. You can truly feel the character he is and so lovable in his own way. I love this show.

After hearing how bad the ending would be this was better than I expected. it's basically what i predicted with the ending of "oh im gonna let u purposely kill me so ur heroes". But it was a lot of jumbled mess especially when hes talking to armin about his motives and stuff it kinda just doesnt make sense. He just has to kill 80% of the world so the power balance would be equal was kinda weird. It was a bit TOO much of a relatively happy ending that was forced to put eren in the good light again but I said before that

Compilation of thoughts close to the end of the show:
Damn the symbolism in this show is actually pretty crazy. Emiya is a fake and copier in both ideals and powers. His powers are a representation of his ideals but it’s only after accepting that it’s fake does he learn to use it right. It’s only after realizing that his ideals may be fruitless does he truly believe in his ideals. The show brushes over its plot with plot armor that is traded for stronger messages and themes. I think the story has a lot of things I don’t think are good and a lot ... Jul 12, 2024

Gave a whole TEDtalk on my thoguhts for the movie right outside of the theater but TLDR:
- the like 4 doors she had to close were too repetitive and took a long time and weren't that interesting - the cat god changing up sides randomly and not talking for half the movie made no sense and was weird - i also dont understand why the black cat god just possessed the aunt for no reason, proceeded to fight with the white cat, and then wants to help + Art was good, music was good, voice acting was exceptional imo + The premise was cool, the twist with her giving ... I finished cyberpunk and I was really close to giving it an 8 but I think it's a 7
There were a lot of parts I did not like and most of the middle to end was kinda boring I also thought as the show dragged on the people (not just David) just became stupider and made more and more dumb decisions that don’t make any sense I’m fine with like plot armor or whatever but it’s like why did faraday at the end become stupid all of a sudden and just trust it was gonna be fine for him I also don’t like how it’s just ... First half was pretty mid but the second half was better fs. I even rewatched it to make sure it’s not just recency bias or smth. The directing with the emotional scenes not being too emotional and the art is good. It’s beautiful and I love the soundtrack still. The show is kinda interesting as a shonen cuz the fights are super short and not very flashy but I think that’s ok— just something to note as a pretty big difference from JJK. I think I enjoyed it as a story more than I did JJK season 1 and I’m hype for S2. Definitely has

Decent overall. I think last season takes the win though; there were a lot of parts that just dragged on for a bit this season. The art is still pretty good and the thing I like most about demon slayer right now is that most of the show is action packed fighting without too much break time. Maybe because I binged this one it seemed better too. I didn't really care much for the pot demon and the fight with him was lowkey lame. The coolest stuff was definitely with the other demon (who was lower in rank actually). Mitsuri and Muichiro weren't that cool

I personally loved it. I think it’s easy to say that the animation and sound design was top notch in every way. That's the easy part though. After the amazing episode 1, the following episodes were controversial among the community with a lot of people saying it fell off. I personally felt like it was definitely a change of pace, but for sure for the better. It would have been such a dry and terrible show if every episode was as intense as episode one. Instead, the show decided to take its time in building its characters with a pretty realistic plot. Aqua, Kana, and

Hidden Inventory arc by itself deserves probably an 8.5/10 since they really took what was good about JJK and made it epic. There was actual lore and amazing animation. Great suspense, music, literally everything. But that lasts for about 4 episodes.
Bring in Shibuya arc, and my rambling that is about to happen here. The craziest mess I have witnessed in a shonen anime. Fight after fight after fight with no rhyme or reason gets bland and repetitive. Even IF I only wanted to watch fight scenes, its hard to get invested in anything with basically no context. It's the equivalent to seeing random NPC characters ... Jul 12, 2024

Worst thing I've watched in a while. I don't know, I don't care, and I don't want to know or care. 5/10
There's definitely a Boy and there is definitely a Heron, I'll give it that. I'm already not the *biggest* fan of Ghibli films but I usually can respect them and see where they shine. I enjoy Spirited Away and Castle in the Sky quite a bit even. However, this just felt like a mess of a movie. So much random stuff going on and so much you just end up not caring about. The art is good and the soundtrack is nice, but that's ... |
