The manga is one of the best in its style, about samurai and that historical period. It is a very bloody, ruthless story about revenge and about... the journey of the Immortal Manji.
But the anime smooths over some of the brutal moments from the manga. Plus, the anime removed the ENTIRE storyline, but cut out enough scenes and some scenes are not always clear, because if the manga talks about something in detail, then in the anime it all goes faster and you have to follow the events even more closely so as not to get confused.
As for censorship, yes, they don't show us in
...
detail, for example, how a person is eaten alive, but they still left the brutality itself, especially in the fights, when they cut off arms, legs, fingers, throats, etc. The mangaka is still pretty good at such details and so they left it all in the anime.
Plus there are all sorts of director's finds in the narrative, like torn frames and the like, some will like them, others won't, they didn't bother me much, although in the manga of course everything was more detailed.
Otherwise, if you don't want to read the manga, then I highly recommend checking out the anime. It's really cool, I started it in the ongoing, but since my memories of the manga were still strong, I dropped it in the ongoing, finished watching it the other day and don't regret anything. Manji is a cool guy and hero. And the anime is cool too.

The Chronicles of the Struggle with the Mongols attracted me a long time ago, but only after 7 years I was able to watch this series. And the emotions after watching it were mixed.
On the one hand, a good plot with original Mongols whom we have not seen in the anime format, but I didn’t really like the presentation. They are some kind of extras here, they are chopped down in packs, and they still push on, that’s okay, but there is no more detailed detailing of their side, only a couple of times we were shown their top and that’s it. I laugh, but
...
if it weren’t for their hats on their heads, I would not have realized that they were Mongols. Although the amendment there were also Chinese and Koreans, in general, they gathered everything together.
I can’t say that everything is bad, however, it is not clear and many events happen quickly, rapidly, to the detriment of the plot, I think the pace could have been slowed down and not fit such a story into 12 episodes that in 25+ it would have been possible to reveal in more detail.
The fight with the big guy and the Mongol was not shown to us at all. I liked that there was no censorship in the anime and the fights, although there was blood etc., were not distinguished by their inventiveness, just bloody slaughter left and right.
Another plus is the dark tone of the picture as if it was filmed through a bag, I think this successfully emphasizes the historicity and confusion of what is happening, but at first it looks unusual, because I am seeing this for the first time.
The heroes are decent here and they are not bad, but again we know almost nothing about anyone, they quickly ran through and that's it. The OSTs were good, restrained and without pathos. The drawing is done to glory and successfully showed historical battles and other attributes, a delight for the eyes.
Overall, it is not bad for familiarization and interest, but it could have been better, alas, I expected a little more. What happened, that is already. In principle, you can watch it, it turned out to be a normal serialization of the knowledge of a lost battle, against the most powerful empire in the world!
I love historical anime!

An excellent samurai series about three strangers in the Edo period. It's a breeze to watch, and you can tell right away that Shinichiro Watanabe had a hand in the work.
Samurai Champloo is a samurai Bebop, but with hip-hop. If you asked me to name the word that I associate with Samurai Champloo, I would say, "Style, of course!" The first thing that catches your eye when you start watching Samurai Champloo is its stylistic direction. It is what gives this series its special charm and beauty.
This style is made up of only two things - unusual drawing and hip-hop. To be honest, I have
...
never seen traces of the latter in any anime before. Hip-hop culture permeates Samurai Champloo from beginning to end. And if in the first five minutes all this looks very unusual and even a little funny, then by the end of the second episode you understand that without the two above-mentioned components this series will be "an ordinary anime about samurai". That's right.
You need to have talent to combine completely different things during creation, which creates a psychedelic aftertaste. Against the background of other anime, Samurai Champloo seems unconventional, which is confirmed by the unusual musical accompaniment and drawing. It will take forever to discuss all the details in Samurai Champloo.
Very little dialogue. Everything is in action. But what is most amazing is that it is enough! In this case, the plot plays a secondary role.
The characters are the complete opposite of each other, the three main characters, at first glance, are cliched, but in fact very original.
Mugen is a former pirate, daring and freedom-loving, Jin is a cold-blooded, lonely ronin, Fuu is a young girl who loves to eat. As the story progresses, the characters become almost comrades.
Sometimes it's very funny, and sometimes it's very sad.

The second season is less interesting than the first. With such sluggish steps and in ten seasons Kamonohashi will not get any closer to the house of M... In general, the origin of Ron himself became curious.., he is half Holmes, half Moriarty.., it turns out: Ron's mother, the heiress of the Holmes family, slept with the sworn enemy of their family?, this is a shame for her ancestors...
And I would like to emphasize, what function does this quasi-policeman - Totomaru Isshiki perform? He is a policeman, without Ron he is "0", he does not have a weapon with him, and he does not have
...
hand-to-hand combat skills to neutralize a criminal... And even the already exposed criminals themselves did not put him in anything, because they knew that he was an empty shell.., so why they made him one of the main characters is completely unclear... (although it is understandable so that we would worry and sympathize with Ron more). Even in Sherlock Holmes, Watson had some significance.., and this one is just a windbag.., an annoying fly, a useless character...
As for me, the second season seemed closed and uncertain.., it is interesting to watch a detective story when truly intriguing events unfold, but here it is just shuffling around in one place.., it somehow reminds me of the animated series "Inspector Gadget", where there is a huge number of episodes.., and about the main villain, only his hand is known... In general, it is strange where such a "high" rating for such nonsense comes from...
Of course, I do not count on the success of the third season.
