Though there is a lot of action, both series are more about drama. Characters you've known for multiple episodes will suddenly kick the bucket. That said, half the cast could have been easily replaced by redshirts and no one would have noticed.

In a manner similar to the popular Death Note, the protagonists of both these series play mind games with enemies and are willing to cheat and break them.

With the help of a flying, alien-destroying savior, humanity must fight off evil space aliens. It does, as Blade escalates rapidly while making it very clear that it was fully planned from the beginning.

While Eva is famous as a deconstruction of Super Robot shows, its protagonist also resembles that of Mobile Suit Gundam's. Both MCs are "whiny", hate their fathers, and are forced to accept their responsibilities as mech pilots. Also, their early fighting is clumsy but they start pulling off awesome moments.

Giant Killing

In both series, a dysfunctional cast has "giant killing", but also poor communication and self-esteem. The monsters inside of the heroes must be dealt with as much as the ones outside (Giant Killing has rival football teams, while Eva has the Angels.)

The main characters of both series are young boys who have been chosen to lead the heroes to battle against those who want to destroy fate. Both MCs own a small object that holds the power to drive the story.

Our protagonists decide to build up their inner and outer strength to overcome those who have attacked them at the start of both series. (Ippo was simply bullied, while Eren's mother was devoured by a Colossal Titan.) The real rise in action is preceded by a training arc. And SnK's titular Titans happen to be champion-level boxers, just like Hajime no Ippo's.

Both of these action adventures have a blue-haired main character with a previous mainstream association (Both Disney's Aladdin and Magi's Aladdin were adapted from a book, while Sonic from Sonic X is everyone's favorite speedy video game character.)

The main characters are both thrust into the epic battles after losing their mothers. The enemies on both series tend of get their body parts blown off a lot, but they just regenerate themselves. The orchestrated soundtracks are really good and fitting for the situations they're used in, and battles tend to span multiple episodes.

In both series, we've got a hot-blooded shonen protagonist who powers up and punches people real hard, though Attack on Titan has more drama. Their openings are both addictive rock songs too.

In both series, giant monsters are constantly attacking and only the main characters stand any chance against them. The MC uses a sword and powers up to fight said monsters. Much like Evangelion, the strength of these two series lies in their drama.

Death Note

These two psychological anime have the main character participate in a battle of wits. Akagi plays Mahjong and breaks his opponents, while Light from Death Note writes people's names in a notebook that retires them.

The main characters of both series are generic boy protagonists who meet a girl important to the story after being attacked by giant snakes. Both MCs vow to protect the girl as they fight. However, Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku has a nondescript protagonist who doesn't influence much, and Busou Renkin is more optimistic and far superior.

The main characters of both series fight evil monsters with both a powerup item and a long blade, and must protect the humans they encounter. Also, the fodder enemies of both series are filled with grape Kool-Aid (and the Radam monsters from Tekkaman Blade explode.)

These two battle shonens have large casts, each member with a different superpower. Both series also focus more on plot than battles, and one Homunculus in Buso Renkin even has a powered up fist like S-Cry-Ed's main character.

While the heroes of both series fight giant monsters, the heroes actively avoid causing collateral damage and killing anyone being held by a monster of the week. The plot of both series revolves around a martial arts tournament, complete with drama. Ippo happens to be about "normal" boxing, but G Gundam has laser swords, giant robots, vulcan guns, and a "save the world" climax.

Both are two of the most depressing things ever; enough that you may never want to watch them again. The main characters of both series are incapable of stopping any of the extreme violence - if anything, they make things worse. Plus the endings to both series would not be different if the main characters had just stayed home.

The main characters of both series have a powered-up arm used to fight against bad guys. However, while Scryed's MC summons the arm at will, Texhnolyze's has a prosthetic arm. Texhnolyze is also much darker than Scryed, to the point where no one has any hope of saving the world (and its ending shouldn't be surprising).

While Blade has deep psychological themes like Evangelion does, Blade also has a level of action and stakes up there with Gurren Lagann. Also like GL, Blade escalates rather quickly and has incredible character development, which the epic battles are very important to. And by the end of the series, the title character ends up as one of the most powerful beings of all.
