a manga so refreshing to read, it makes me want to start a YouTube channel so I can express how good it is to a larger audience. Although Dazai would probably tell me that if I'm so inspired, after doing that I should use that feeling to write something original of my own.
an aged, actual adult man with life experience who has the body of an adult instead of a teen in a world that just can't seem to let him have his simple wish of a sweet death. leaving a job half finished would irk him, but when your double suicide ends up with
...
your resurrection and the world itself seems to be trying to keep you alive there isn't much you can do. well, he isn't the kind of person to just sit around and accept it or get angry and lash out at this unfairness, so instead he sets out to go sightseeing.
this manga is usually lighthearted but will get serious at times. as stated in the first chapter, Dazai himself is very weak. even still, he doesn't fear death and as such he'll rush into danger headfirst. because as an author it's his duty to record and observe what wonders the world has to offer, and because, although he might not value his own life, if there's someone in front of him who does, he'll make it his job to let them keep living.
he's certainly heroic but in his own way. he'll wipe away your tears, help you to your feet, but go off on his way afterwards. he'll give you the opportunity to make your own choices, but what you do with your own life, isn't really his business. after all, your happiness is something only you can achieve.
with all that being said, he isn't a miracle worker, and knows what he can do is limited. sometimes the game you were playing was just rigged from the start, and there's really nothing you can do about it. but as depressing as this is, and though sometimes you can try your best only to find out you could never succeed in the first place. He'll press on, (but would like to take the easy way out if he could and will keep trying till he succeeds) after all, it's certainly better then just lying around all day. And... you never know how much of an impact you can make, how much you mean, and what regrets you thankfully won't have unless you make the effort in the first place.

i'll try and keep this as spoiler free as possible with only one actual spoiler at the end, in short, it's good... in more ways then one.
unique, and appeals to a broad audience without feeling like it's excluding any of them. the lewd scenes tapper off a bit to the end of the story but it's enjoyable as a story nonetheless.
one thing i will give high praise for is the unique character designs. not being able to tell characters apart is an instant enjoyment killer for me as design is half of a character. and was amazingly avoided here. even minor side characters
...
that only appear once or twice are easily recognizable and rememberable. from clothes, body shape, eye shape, hairstyle and more, almost every character was given a unique design pleasing to see.
the setting and worldbuilding feels fleshed out with the site i read it on including the occasional author's notes clarifying details about the world. to say the least... it's a unique world the likes of which i certainly haven't seen before (you'll see what i mean just a few chapters in) i can tell the author genuinely had fun showcasing his ideas and his positive demeanor for his work certainly gets reflected to the audience along with his... tastes.
but perhaps the best part about this series is the characters. I loved every second spent showcasing the interactions between the characters. their personalities and motivations didn't feel one-dimensional with everyone having their own life outside of what they do for a living. even the villains were unique, each with their own goals and motivations making the entire story feel alive aside from just what the main character is thinking. not every villain wants world domination, power, have some tragic backstory or things as grandiose as that, nor does every hero want to save the world. you'll see them grow from when you first meet them, you'll see their struggles and how it affects them, you'll see the secondary main character try fuck everything that moves and the main character try to deny she likes watching.
enjoyable, in more ways then one
ACTUAL SPOILER AHEAD,
overall i would say the only thing, in particular, i didn't like was the male romance lead. despite being such a big thing that it gets referenced all throughout the story since the moment he shows up, he makes only 2 appearances in arcs aside from in a dream and then pops back in at the end... just because. i will admit i went into this story expecting (and hoping for) yuri romance but you could erase his whole character, never writing him in and pretty much nothing would change throughout the story (or nothing that could easily be rewritten at least). this man, the crux of the romance throughout the story, is additionally and ironically the most flat and personality-less character in all 110 chapters, even his design is boring and uninspiring. he experiences no growth because he disappears instantly, and when he does eventually show back up a long time later, the time he finally gets to spend, after waiting and worrying for so long, is reduced to a singular title card saying time passes... the worst part is because he shows up quite early and the MC instantly wants to marry him 5 minutes after meeting him, any hopes of developing romance in the furture are smothered. love takes time and none was used to give the guy that crushed my yuri romance hopes proper development to fit into his role.

starting off from nothing and killing your way to the top, getting stronger the more you kill. an interesting premise handled well enough I would say
story) 7.5
kinda generic i would say, though there is setting development and later on in the story we get a pallet swap from medieval to futuristic with the lost kingdom galia's ruins and technology. a bit more time could have been dedicated to fleshing out the setting and plot that instead of just more killing. however, i really like the drawback to the mc's power where everytime he gets stronger, he gets hungrier and needs to constantly kill rather
...
then just gaining power easily with no drawbacks. a bit lacking but nothing here is inherently bad. I will say though that it gets off on a really bad foot painting a whole different picture of what the rest of the manga will be like so don't make assumptions too early
characters) 8 - 8.5
motives, goals, unique design, though a tad bit lacking in flaws. overall a decently designed mc. i have trouble liking and relating to his character though as he seems without flaws as a person but his power drawbacks and how it affects his person compensate enough for me to ignore that (kinda). later on we meet myne, i'm not sure what it is about her, perhaps her laid-back style or the fact her "train for another 1000 years before you challenge me" joke was actually factual but i really like her character in particular, especially when she followed through on being there to end the mc when he reached his limit on restraining himself. acting as both a companion and a goal for the mc. other then that characters can be a bit flat at times aside from the main group, some being too nice, others too evil. but none overstay their welcome too much keeping things fresh
enjoyment: 8.5 - 9
it's a power fantasy that keeps things just above being generic with a likable mc to follow. i loved watching him grow and follow his own goals becoming his own hero.
polish: 6.5
i will say this story is lacking a bit in polish. while there are good moments that shine like greed (the mc's sentient sword) calling him out for picking on some powerless scientists experimenting on civilians and letting his emotions get to him, saying: "could you face roxy the way you are right now?" mc was dropping to their level and until greed pointed it out, i didn't realize i was rooting for the wrong things. unfortunately not everything in this manga is this polished and it can feel straightforward at times as well. there are good moments but most of the enjoyment is on plot development and characters.
as I am typing this I realized although it might not have been intentional and was likely just for comedic purposes, myne leeches off of mc for his food and money. making him care for her because she knows mc's worried about needing to rely on other people and wants him to at least feel like he's sort of paying her back for protecting him and helping him grow.
i would rate this somewhere between an 7 and an 7.5

unique, interesting, and loveable. a well-fleshed-out plot to compliment araki's art. one of the calmest jojo parts but not to it's detriment
a controversial Jojo part just looking at the ratings, I can understand why but still one of my favorite mangas of all time.
story 9 / 10
takes place in an alternate universe Morrioh, many wacky conflicts will happen here and in a way it's all connected and will be unraveled by the mc
characters 9.5 / 10
one man, and his journey of self-discovery. just like the protagonist of part 7, he may not be the most confident, cool, or strong hero, but he's
...
got a goal in mind and will push through to the end.
art 10 / 10
it's araki, though everything has a softer feel then the previous jojo parts
got that "slice of life" vibe that part 4 had so if you were a fan of that, you'll definitely like this.

a show too ambitious for it's own good, I got my hopes up with the first episode, before seeing the same old formula of overpowered mc that never struggles, gets all the girls because why not?, and a world that revolves around making "chad" mc look cool.
to be honest, the mc is the only thing holding the show back, perhaps drawing inspiration from shows like Overlord, but making the mistake of focusing too hard on an MC that although unique, can't quite carry the show by himself.
it might be trying to be a parody of some sort but fails to change up the tropes
...
it's "parodying"or properly be humorous.
things were taken too fast, but it certainly had potential, if only the MC was properly fleshed out or we actually got to see some growth before he just got everything handed to him by the plot.

oh look, generic op mc is underestimated by the popular kids but 5 minutes later and with zero effort instantly becomes super op and gets all the girls because he's just that special. did I mention he's super powerful and special without even trying and everyone loves him?
there, I saved you the time of watching the anime equivalent of filtered tap water
ignoring the cookie cutter setting, the obvious and shoehorned plot device of his original Disney movie bully-type party firing him for no reason just because they suck so the mc can feel more special when they beg him to come back, and zero
...
tension at all times because everything flows so poorly... I completely hate the MC. I know it's supposed to be a self insert anime but I think it's kind of insulting anime studios think this is what the average teenage male is like.
zero personality traits, zero spine, zero IQ, zero creativity, and zero self-awareness, all points go into being nice (whatever that's worth) and there's of course, zero selfishness. someone must have been in a rush during the character customization and just left him on the default settings. honestly, I actually like nice MCs that use their powers to help people, but when that's all you have with nothing else, I by no means will ever be able to enjoy it.
whatever chance i was willing to give this anime crumbled in episode 2 where the even further shoehorned plot device showed up with the mc turning off his brain cells and getting provoked into an arm wrestling match against a guy twice his size and at least 100 pounds heavier. he, for some reason, agrees on betting his girl so he can "protect her" (whatever that's worth) thinking and practically knowing full well he'll lose (the only reward for winning would be being "left alone") , only to win, finding out AFTERWARDS that he gains strength for taming the cat girl (he was weak and average up until this point). what did the "prize" in question say? practically nothing, she didn't stop him, or shed a tear and ask him why he doesn't trust her strength. and i think this sums up the main problem with power fantasy anime recently in general, the whole world feels like it exists just so the mc can look cool. perhaps this is the result when art continuously imitates other successful pieces of art instead of a writer's own creativity.
the singular star I gave this anime was because the bridge in episode 3 looked kind of cool.
