Is the story realistic? No, but it's very transparent about this to the audience. Is there any depth to the story? No, nothing here but light-hearted humor and old-fashioned perverted anime scenes. Is this anime just about a Tokyo university drop-out that simps hard for women? Yes.
What I like about this anime is that it's a testament to the fact that stories can be simple and still be fun. Really, the story follows this formula: (1) Kintaro meets a hot girl (2) Kintaro finds out where hot girl works and gets hired (3) Kintaro challenges them / wants to help them (4) Kintaro succeeds and

gets hot girl to lust over him (5) Kintaro leaves (6) Repeat
Despite this simple premise, I enjoyed this anime. The comedic timing is fluid and never abrupt. The comedy itself is not overwhelming or over-the-top, either (a fair warning that the humor is immature and perverted, so if your mind is in the gutters, this is your stuff right here). The way some episodes resolve the conflict is choppy, but come on, this is Golden Boy we're talking about—the main goal of this anime is to show you boobs and get you laughing.
I came to this anime for a casual watch, and I ended up getting more than I was expecting with the laughter it caused me. I definitely recommend this anime if you're just looking to sit back and relax for a while.
