Golden Man

Both mangas feature a villain's perspective (Footsoldier D in Sentai Daishikkaku and Delta in Golden Man) and explore superhero corruption. However, in Golden Man, both the supposed hero and villain are still amnesiac, so who knows what the future holds?

Harukanaru Ring

Very similar, except that in Hotchpotch Punch, it's kickboxing, and in Harukanaru Ring, it's pro-wrestling. In both stories, the girls are fascinated by women's martial arts. As rookies in their respective fields, the main characters don't have any particular gift for martial arts but experience growth as they defeat stronger opponents. Besides, there is a certain sexualization, even though Harukanaru Ring was first published in 1992 and Hotchpotch Punch in 2024 - it's still the same recipe with supple, bouncy, comically large breasts. Not only are the girls bodies objectified, their personalities are as well. Tsundere, dandere, kuudere.

The Sign of Abyss and Densetsu no Yuusha no Densetsu have something in common. That both Jold and Ryner have unique abilities that lead them to a harsh experience in life. Because of their backgorund story they develop a strong need to distance themselves from others and to keep said abilities in secret. Recommended for those who like series that explores abilities that are considered both powerful and dangerous and to those who like to see the growth of the main characters while them accept themselves, a classic premise.

'Prison School' is similar to 'Kakegurui' when it comes to the story setting, which is a high school ground filled with elites. Both anime enlighten that the students there are more concerned about gambling, manipulate, peeping girls on compromising situations, badly injuring others, treating others like slaves, do ecchi etc., rather than living a rather peaceful school year. Both contain character's with sadomasochism and masochistic tendencies.

Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru

Both deal with desires, principles, remorse, survival, forbidden, allowed, battles, team work, changes, unleashed emotions, love and loneliness. Loveless gives an accurate representation of the transition from childhood to adulthood. Ritsuka represents the innocent version of us, yet emotionally speaking he shows a very adult spectrum. However, Soubi appearance and actions, as him piercing Ritsuka testify, are meant to represent the scratching line marking borders forbidden to cross and the constant temptation that leads to the adult world. Aside from that, the characters in the manga are sad and lonely, they are just a bunch of people trying to find answers about love and life, while fighting their desperation to create memories with people too not be forgotten. In Uragiri wa Boku no Namae wo Shitteiru the characters also feel kind of sad and lonely - Yuki and Hotsuma, for example, feel emotionally isolated even if they are surrounded by people.

Ribbon no Kishi

Both gender-bender animes typically centering around a young female hero, who disguises herself as a man. Ribbon no Kishi has participated genuine, although in small changes in women’s empowerment, promoting a young female hero being less passive and domesticated, although I still felt that princess Sapphire relied on a man to save the kingdom. Furthermore, I don't think she was really comfortable playing the role of a male not that it's not okay too not like it but this just reinforced the pretty pink princess desire. Now, in Versailles no Bara, Oscar was strong and did fight the bad guys, and she was vocal about her concerns, and, yes, both André and Fersen helped her loosen up and pay attention to other things besides protecting the Queen, but I see that in a more positive way of character development than as a man trying to change her. So, both are lovely animes to engage a conversation about gender and sexuality.

Both are centred in board games (in March Comes in Like a Lion the board game is Shogi, and in Hikaru no Go is the game called Go). In Hikaru no Go the main character, Hikaru Shindou, initialy didn’t care about this type of game, yet that all changes when he start to be guided by Sai. Of course, the relationship between them are mostly probably not as simple. In March Comes in Like a Lion, Rei Kiriyama, the main character, is a prodigy. In both mangas they both develop their strategy skills and deal with friendships and losses yet they go to it in different ways.

Both deuteragonists of Otoyomegatari and Shut Hell have very similar personalities. Karluk Eihon and Yurul are really shy at the beggining of the story but they become less shy and more brave as them mature while helping the female lead, that they maintain a very intimate connection with. But I still think that Karluk Eihon of Otoyomegatari is more childlike and calm than Yurul of Shut Hell that is a cunning Mongol prince.
