Sequels can be a dangerous territory to tread on. Especially ones for shows that already do not follow the manga but instead, creates its own story. On one hand it has the job of following and wrapping up the previous season’s (to an extent, “original”) storyline and on the other hand, pleasing the fans. To many, Black Butler II has done neither and to others it has done more than that: in other words, there is a clear division between fans.

Let’s get the technicalities out of the way. The art and animation is as beautiful and Victorian-Gothic as the first season, though the animation ...

I don’t often read shoujo manga, mostly because I tend to find that shoujo manga would fall under one of the two categories: ones filled with blushing heroines, princely (lady) boys and convenient fairytale stories or the other side of shoujo; the one that attempts to be dark and mysterious but most of the time only ends up being filled with pretty gothic clothes and whiny characters. Although there are some excellent works that fit under these stereotypes and pull it off, I do get rather bored of its predictability.

After School Nightmare is such a shoujo manga that keeps me on my toes ...

Hajime (Manga) add
Released in 2004, "Hajime" still remains an unknown work. Most people would have read this because of the involvement of renowned Takeshi Obata (art of Death Note, Bakuman, Hikaru no Go and Aoi Bungaku Series) had in this. Others may have read it because they are a fan of Otsu-Ichi’s works. It is mostly read out of curiosity to quench the fans’ thirst, but what some fans realize when the read this is that they’re actually drowning in it...but in a good way.

The most common reason why people come up with an imaginary friend is to have a companion. Although I personally have ...

Bakuman. (Manga) add
Shounen Jump. When we think of the famous boy’s manga company, titles such as “Bleach”, “Naruto” and “Gintama” usually comes to mind. Most of which are of the ‘battle’ genre. Bakuman is no different; but instead of picking up their swords to rush off to battle, Akito Takagi and Moritaka Mashiro are picking up their pens to rush for their deadlines. A story of making your dreams come true, fighting for the one you love and overcoming the many obstacles that stand in your way – all of which that can adhere to your typical shounen title. Only that it is not your typical shounen ...

To watch or not to watch, that is the question of this review for Kuroshitsuji’s Hamlet.

And so begins the production of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” in the Phantomhive household. Master Ciel had intended to put on a play for the disadvantaged children as a means to gain publicity for his company by coming off as a philanthropist. But what’s this – a sudden mishap had occurred meaning his professional actors won’t be able to make it?! Whatever shall they do? Well, his faithful and most competent butler, Sebastian has an idea: cast themselves in the play!

The OVA is a nice little side story that quenches the ...

Mixed Feelings
Darker than BLACK has grown rather popular on the net, gaining rave reviews, popularity by word of mouth and leaving trails across the forums and the net in general. With a show with such high acclaims it is only natural to expect a truly remarkable show. Funnily enough, it turned out to be one of the most unremarkable shows I have ever seen.

Set in our time but in an alternate world where global warming isn’t the planets biggest threat but supernatural beings with unique powers are – these beings dubbed the name “Contractors”. They appeared the same time Hell’s Gate did; a mysterious force ...

Comedy is subjective. Some people prefer witty satire and others prefer blunt brainless nonesense. Well, Baka to Test is the latter of the two. Just like its namesake, Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu (Idiots and Tests and Summoning Beings) is one hell of an idiotic show. But it serves its purpose of providing nonsensical entertainment, and I'm afraid if you are expecting otherwise then Baka to Test is not for you.

To many, the story is – to put it plainly – outright stupid. Students are split into classes from A-F based on their academic skills; A being full of smartarses and F being crammed ...

Nabari no Ou (Anime) add
In life, many people (through different experiences) learn the value of human relationships; be it the relationship between lovers, siblings or friends. They learn it is okay to have selfish desires once in a while and what a person can mean to another.

…If only.

Thus we come to Nabari no Ou (English: King of Nabari), an anime which attempts to present multiple character relationships and the complexities of human interaction with a bit of ninja action to spruce things up.

The story is one that had an interesting premise: The apathetic Miharu is told that he holds the power of the Shinrabanshou, a ...

Preliminary (32/82 chp)
Komatta Toki ni wa Hoshi ni Kike (English: Ask the Stars for Help!) is a rare find amongst shounen-ai manga. And for one reason only: Length. It is indeed rare to find an 85 chapter long story on such a genre, whereas other shounen-ai manga lacks in character and story development or otherwise has a rushed story, KTHK takes its time with the plot and the people, and therefore also takes its time with the main point of the genre: the romance.

The summary does a good job of giving the gist of the manga. For those of you who have read Hana Kimi they ...

Have you ever felt like the odd one out in your family? Like you are less smart, less pretty, less athletic - anything - than the rest of your family. You don’t have the same qualities as everyone else so you come to question yourself, if you really are a part of the family or if you’re worthy to. You might start hating yourself, or even come to despise your family.

Well Akira Sakamoto does, reason being he is the only ‘normal’ looking one in his family. He comes from quite a large family of six, the third oldest child out of four and is ...
