Spoiler warning: I will speak on certain spoilers about the story, so therefore I would recommend you to watch the show before you read this review. I also would like to encourage the reader to not blindly follow my or anyone else their opinions. I believe that my opinion is neither correct nor incorrect. I apologize in advance for any grammar or vocabulary mistakes as English is not my native language.
Let me start by trying to define this show in 2 quotes:
“Sometimes all a person needs is an another to care about them”
“If you ignore your problems, they end up becoming bigger ones.”
TL;DR: The show
...
is about a runaway high schooler and an older guy taking care of her. It goes on to be a very complex show filled with drama but instead of actually solving anything, it focuses on short term solutions that try to make you feel good and therefore justify these short term choices. Next to that I would agree that the art within this show was extremely well done, the show still feels tone deaf at giving moments (e.g. continuing working with a person that just tried to sexually assault you). The characters themselves are very generic and in my opinion show very little growth throughout the 13 episodes. Overall a show that for most people will be a hit or miss and it turned to be the latter for myself.
To continue I will explain my arguments for scoring this show quite low. Firstly, the story. The story in essence boils down to a man, that has lost all interest in actually living a decent life, meeting a young girl that has no place to call home. Of course this is crucial in the story since every child should have a place called home, a place where people are waiting for you. Next to that she is also is plagued by tragedy that happened at school. So the story begins and the young girl ends up completely falling in love with her new life situation, receiving the most important needs that any given person deserves. She has shelter, food, security and most of all love from this one noble man that took her in. I mean this in the way that most people love their children and truly care for them. The man taking care of her also has his own major issues concerning his personal love life at work. This is one of the first flaws when it comes to story, in the sense that the romantic side of the show is done awfully. Due to circumstances two girls end up confessing their love towards this man but the show for some reason decides to completely ignore these events after they have happened, making these events in essence completely pointless. Consider this: if two persons that are close to you would confess their feelings towards you, would you just ignore them and pretend nothing happened?
Now moving onto the major part of this story concerning the troubled past of the young girl. Dealing with a trauma is very difficult and I am no expert on this matter. The show however offers a simple solution, which I agree with to a certain extent. The noble man that took in this young girl decides to truly care about her and offers love. I agree that this is the correct solution on the short term but it is not on the long term. The show also admits to this but when asked to deliver an answer, it completely fails. Long term solutions are a continuous process that most of time are not solved by simply talking and pretending somehow that these words have a life changing impact. I am referring here to episode 12 where the noble man decides to beg for a better future for the young girl. Now I believe considering how much this noble man truly cares about her that there were far better choices. One is discussing with the mother and the older brother of the young girl to simply let her live alone close to school. The young girl clearly had proven that she is capable of doing household tasks like cleaning and cooking. My point here is that if you truly care about someone, you should look at actual long term solutions and in my opinion the show never tried to think about this and shoved it away by simple words.
Secondly, the tone deafness was something that annoyed me quite a bit. With tone deafness I mean that given the context certain actions seem very unrealistic. I have already explained this with the situation where the young girl almost gets sexually assaulted by another co-worker and then decides to forgive him like nothing happened. Another example is where a girl completely stalks the noble man of our story and he pretends like it is no big deal. Another one is where the noble man hears that his crush accepts to go to bed with him and he simply just laughs it off, making absolutely zero moves for the rest of the show.
All of the characters are extremely generic and it is very easy to predict their behavior. For me this makes all of them very boring. You have the good guys that are just simply good and you have the bad guy that is just simply bad. There is almost no other side of the coin to be seen. In reality there are always two sides of a coin, a good and a bad one. While one might shine more than the other, I feel like this is completely ignored for most of the characters. Especially the noble man seems to have no bad sides making him a plain good guy. The young girl faces more troubles so this argument is not completely correct, but I still would argue that we only get to see one side of most of the characters.
That concludes my review, if you have any comments or feedback feel free to send them to me.

When looking at new anime series that are currently airing it is not difficult for one to notice Interspecies Reviewers. It is quite controversial and for good reasons. Whether or not other viewers truly enjoy this show, I have noticed the ratings given on reviews are quite high. To me this show rather quickly started to become boring as it has almost nothing interesting to offer. No interesting characters, no story, mediocre visuals, etc. The episodes are repetitive and are just about a bunch of weird guys writing reviews on having sexual intercourse with different species of females. Now I know others will say “it’s
...
an ecchi bro, it is not about the story” and this is correct to a certain level.
How does one define a good ecchi? Well the main goal is to offer you and me something enjoyable to watch. So are monster girls attractive? To me absolutely not, especially those with the body of a child. I get that by nature a man is perverse and most have their own fantasies, but unfortunately these weird fantasies do not apply to me. Therefore I found the artists to completely fail in their task of giving me something enjoyable to watch. Hentai artists honestly can do a better job.
“But it is a comedy, so a story does not matter”. I agree with this point as I laughed at how stupid some of these episodes were, but how can we really implement good comedy in an ecchi show (in my opinion more a hentai). If you want a good example of this I recommend: Joshiochi!: 2-kai kara Onnanoko ga... Futtekita!? This show offered a lot more clever puns compared to the very average jokes in Interspecies Reviewers and it also managed to have somewhat of a story.
If we look at the characters there is almost nothing to say about them, they are just perverted idiots that enjoy having sexual intercourse. The show is sexist as the females in this show are all portrayed as objects that you can buy whenever you want. But it goes both sides, men are portrayed as horny virgins or just plain losers.
The only interesting part about this show is how realistic this is. If I were born at the same time and in the same world as they did, I would have indeed done the same and I assume a lot of other guys would have also done this. My assumption is that this show is based on the fantasy of the creator to live in a VR-world where he can have sex with attractive females and have a good time with his friends, which if we think about realistically without caring about ethics is something that sounds quite nice for many guys.
I assume I will forget about this show as it was not interesting to me at all. I would not even recommend it as it will just be 12 episodes of the same nonsense.

A total reset of the society as we know it today. Humanity send back to the stone-age. How would we deal with this as humans? A hard question to which Dr. Stone tries to gives
...
a simple answer. We either choose a society filled with science and go to back to our old ways or we create a new nation based on strength. A ‘survival of the fittest’ nation. When the show started the concept looked very promising to me, yet Dr. Stone failed to deliver. Everything about this show felt extremely average and after a certain amount of episodes it got boring and repetitive.
The story itself is simple. All humans turn into stones, thousands of years pass and the world becomes the kingdom of animals. After a couple thousand years the main character Senkuu awakens from his stone prison and starts his quest to build a kingdom of science. After a certain amount of time Senkuu finds the cure against the stone cage and decides to free his friends and the ‘strongest primate high-schooler’ Shishiou Tsukasa. Tsukasa is very athletic and is one of the few to actually have an opinion in this show. He disagrees with Senkuu’s ideals to save every human and would even go as far as killing Senkuu to create a society where the pure youth rule and there is almost no inequality.
This was looking very promising until the show completely dropped Tsukasa after he tried to kill Senkuu. The show instead focused on the development of Senkuu and his science adventures in the Ishigami village. There is no problem with going this route but after a while it got extremely repetitive and cliché. It went like this: Senkuu wants to build something so he and his friends go on an adventure. After a bit they get in a difficult situation but through some ‘smart scientific’ way they manage to escape trouble and continue with their scientific research. That is 2/3th of this show, nothing ‘exhilarating’ at all.
The characters were a hit or miss. Senkuu had some interesting remarks towards other humans, but his whole scientist personae got really boring. A character that spend minutes talking about actual chemistry and minerals did not make him interesting at all. As I mentioned before Tsukasa was the most interesting person this show had to offer as he cares about equality which is a huge problem in modern society. Unfortunately the show gave him like 5 minutes of screen time after the separation with Senkuu. Asagiri Gen was another interesting character as he got persuaded by the kingdom of science. Not because of a bottle of Cola but because he realised the potential of science. The other villagers were mostly slaves of Senkuu that got persuaded by a bowl of ramen. On the other hand the young elite that got revived by Tsukasa looked like a bunch of bloodthirsty edgy teenagers with no brains. The couple episodes about Senkuu’s father were mostly about him and other astronauts surviving on a stranded isle and creating a village. Senkuu would have taken the same actions no matter what, the village just made his science projects go faster. 95% of the characters felt irrelevant.
Another thing I would like to add is how ironic this show can be. It is about science and science literally defines what is real and not. A 17-year old cannot kill a lion with one punch, an astronaut has to adapt to gravity when he reaches earth. Yet all of these things did not matter to the ‘scientific’ anime Dr. Stone.
The openings were enjoyably but honestly the music during certain episodes was horrible and cringy. The animation was very average, especially Kohaku and her sister looked horrible.
Dr. Stone was 24 episodes long but it was very repetitive and after 7 or 8 episodes it got boring. It is a very bold statement but this felt like a show for kids. All we have to do is soak up Senkuu and his science adventures. That is why I gave Dr. Stone a 5: an average Shounen.

After reading some other reviews on MAL, the overall conclusion seems to be that Beastars is one of the best anime’s this season has offered. I dare to disagree with this as Beastars turned out
...
to be a show with a lot of potential that got wasted on a very cliché story. My biggest critique with this show is that it tries way too much in a series that only has 12 episodes, therefore a lot of subjects and characters turn out to be quite useless in the end.
The main goal of Beastars in my opinion is that it tries to tell you that stereotypes exist and that one can either break free from this or be stuck in it forever. Legoshi the main character is a wolf that prefers being quiet and peaceful instead of showing dominance as one would expect from a wolf. As he grows up, he discovers his true nature as a carnivore in the first episode. The problem I have with this part of the story is that it does not progresses throughout the series expect for a couple minor scenes. It just does not show enough moments where Legoshi seems to suffer from a thirst for blood as a normal wolf would do. I believe the main focus should have been on this subject as it would have shown an instinctual conflict of a beast.
The story instead decides to put its main focus on Legoshi and his feelings for a rabbit. This again touches upon a stereotype, ‘a big bad guy can not be with a small cute girl’. Instead of developing a cute romance story, it feels to me like a forced relationship. The conversations are awkward and Legoshi barely had any contact with Haru the rabbit before he decides he is in ‘love’. Love does not just happen because you saw a girl naked or because you saw her once or twice. Love takes time to develop and in this case it’s just a simple crush that seemed way too forced. Nonetheless Legoshi has the correct mindset and he is not bad character at all, he admits he is not perfect and for this I praise the show.
Haru is by far the worst character in this show. I can understand that one must feel frustrated if they always get looked down upon and people pity her but the way she deals with it just is god awful. A girl selling her body to be more on an equal foot with male is honestly a disgusting thing. The show could have focused more on Haru being a smart and helpful girl that tells u: “no matter how small u are, u can have a meaning in life”. It is also weird to me how she ends with feelings for Legoshi while Louis disappearing seems to not bother her at all. For context: in episode 10 she admits to being in love with Louis.
Louis is your typical perfect deer (guy) with a strong sense of justice. This makes him most of the time very boring and predictable. He has a troubled past that still haunts him but tries to overcome this with his pride and his outstanding acting performances on and off stage. The most interesting part about him is that he does in fact put herbivores as a species over a single rabbit. This does strengthen his image of a strong leader but goes against the idea of him being an actual good guy. His ending scene confuses me, but I guess his troubled past got to him in the end and he cracked under the pressure.
Apart from these 3 characters the others were mostly useless. The tiger had a fight with Legoshi but after that nothing happened. The female wolf tried to make Legoshi get feelings for him but not at a single point did the male grey wolf show interest towards her. The dog friend just heard Legoshi out about his problems. The list goes on, but I hope you understand my point. I do have to give credits to ‘panda Gouhin’ as his individual story sounded very interesting.
The whole herbivore versus carnivore subject felt like it never got the attention it deserved. Apart from some bullying scenes, this subject never mattered.
Overall the sound was enjoyable but nothing special. The art was pretty bad most of the time as I felt it looked ‘laggy’ and their movements did not seem natural. There were some aesthetical scenes for which I have to credit them.
The ending was quite interesting. It went from a useless ‘knight saving a princess from a dragon’ to a rabbit and a wolf almost having sexual intercourse, to a very awkward love situation. Since there is season 2 coming it is quite easy to finish with this kind of ending. The show does not need to explain because it can just explain it next season.
Overall Beastars is not a bad show. It just tried too much with too little time and ended with a lot of holes and uselessness making it me therefore give it a 6. I still recommend it because overall it was an enjoyable show, I just wish they kept it simpler and gave the series an actual direction.

I will divide this review in several parts: an introduction, a central part talking about the story, art, sound, etc. I will finish with an overall conclusion with the essentials, so if you do not
...
want to read this completely, I advise to read the conclusion.
Let us start with an overall introduction on Shiki. Shiki is in my honest opinion a psychological thriller. It asks its viewers to form their own opinion about a rather sensitive topic namely death. It also focuses on other topics such as the culture in small areas and religion but on smaller scale. I would not see how this falls under the category of a horror as this anime does not try to scare you, although one could argue about this since there are some disturbing scenes. For example, the scene where Doctor Ozaki decides to ‘research’ his wife Kyouko. Overall, I would not recommend this show to anyone below the age of 16 as the show does ask its viewers to put some thought into it.
My first paragraph is about the sound as I personally feel this was one of the least important elements to the show. I would like to start with the openings and the endings. I have to say these were rather boring to me. They did not put me in any mood nor did I enjoy them. The sound during the episodes rather was a lot more fitting and did succeed in creating a mysterious yet dark mood around this series. A soundtrack can make or break a show but with Shiki it was more a helpful addition to the overall story of the show.
Secondly, I will discuss the art. The art in this show was rather bad to the point where I believe this was the worst part about the show. I like to compare art to movies of Studio Ghibli as these movies have one the best art styles even to this day. In Shiki characters look a bit ‘triangular’ as that is the best way for me to describe them. Overall, I would just say that there are no aesthetic-pleasing moments in the show.
Further we have the story. The story itself is easy to understand. A vampire family decides to take over a while a small village by sucking the blood of the villagers. Eventually their plan seems to work out until the villagers discover the truth and decide to slaughter the ‘Risen’. The story for me is therefore a setting for the villagers to develop and give meaning to themselves.
With that being said I arrive at the part where this anime truly shines: the characters. In my opinion doctor Ozaki and Murio are the best examples of characters that have their own believes. On the one side we have Doctor Ozaki who is a good person at heart and has a strong sense of justice. He truly feels bad for everyone that dies in the city and deals with it in his own way. He becomes obsessed and cold-hearted with a single goal: stop the rising death toll in the village. In the centre of this show he therefore believes that the ‘Risen’ should be exterminated at any cost. He goes far in his believes but when the slaughter on the ‘Risen’ happens, he does show some hesitation towards traitors (people that got bitten). Murio on the other hand views the story differently. He cares more about the individual such as himself and Sunako. He also does care about Doctor Ozaki but because of their difference in opinions this bond fades away. Murio accepts any ‘creature’ and has a strong desire for a free will. The prime example is when he decides to join Sunako and abandons the humans as he does not believe with what they do is correct. Trough the story we get to see all kinds of characters with their opinions, which I would like to discuss but that would make this review too long (as it already seems to be). If there are any characters I would recommend you to think about, it is Ookawa Tomio and Tanaka Kaori as they a develop a form of insanity near the end. Ask yourself why did this happen to them.
To conclude, Shiki is a story that’s sets a mysterious tone for its characters to develop their own opinions about how they should deal with death in small village. A doctor with a strong sense of justice goes all his way out to protect humans while a monk who desires a free will joins with the ‘wrong side’. Death is in fact a cruel thing and one must ask himself “what impact does death have and can it be accepted in any form?” Is it okay for the ‘Risen’ to suck blood out humans to survive (compare this to humans who eat meat) and is it okay for humans to destroy their hunters (can we live in society with vampires by donations of blood?). If you would like to know the answer think about it yourself as it develops your opinion. These were my examples to indicate why I believe this show is a thriller that asks its viewers to think. Overall, I do recommend it based on the moral aspect. The show had some obvious flaws such as the fire at end and therefore they way it ended but nonetheless this show is a must watch for any interested in psychological shows.
I would like to thank anyone who read this, if you have any feedback please send them to me, I appreciate it.
