Publishing company Shogakukan announced a television anime adaptation of Q Nikumura's Giant Ojousama manga on Monday.

Tatsunoko Production, the animation studio behind Gatchaman Crowds and Yozakura Quartet: Hana no Uta, is producing the anime.

Nikumura originally posted the manga on Shounen Jump+ web magazine's Jump Rookie! section as an entry for the monthly award in December 2020. Following a readers vote, it won the Bronze Rookie Award for December. A total of four chapters were released by February 2021.

Sunday Webry began serializing the action comedy manga in July 2021. Shogakukan published the ninth volume in April 2024, with the tenth volume going on sale on March 12.

Synopsis
Oriko Fujidou, the daughter of the powerful Fujidou conglomerate—the world's leading force in vending machine development and distribution—was gifted an entire city by her father at the age of four. Over the past ten years, she has devoted herself to its growth and prosperity.

However, the city's peaceful days come to an abrupt end when an enormous, unidentified invader attacks. In a desperate attempt to fight back, her loyal butler, Dr. Sebastian gives Oriko a newly developed energy drink. The moment she drinks it, her body grows to a towering size, surpassing even skyscrapers. Though struggling at first, she ultimately manages to repel the invader.

But the attacks don't stop. Each time a new threat emerges, Oriko transforms into a giant once more, standing to protect the city she has nurtured with her own hands.

@LunyRem We obviously did not understand each other somewhere, but in any case, I did not watch these shows and did not read these manga.

@RobertBobert ...wait. 🤔???

Sorry, you lost me right there. 😅 Were you referring to a different show? I was talking about the manga which are similar to Giant Ojousama that's why I gave my own impressions about those two. 😅

@LunyRem Really? The last time I looked at Cast on the show page, I thought it was an All-Female show.

Mar 6, 7:16 AM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert Female cast? There's not much female cast from any of the manga I've mentioned. If anything, there's only some romantic subtext between the larger female and the human-sized guy. Not much interaction from any female cast that can be considered their circle of friends, and the other females who are side characters would just be the opponents/enemies of the giant female protagonist.

Whereas there's no romance at all in Giant Ojousama. Just some wacky gag comedy and ecchi shenanigans.

@LunyRem That is, it is just a manga and now anime version of that Disney film about how the girl was turning into giant and fighting aliens? But then what does the other girls from its Female Cast do?

Mar 5, 4:57 AM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert If it's ginormous battles between big chicks, then it won't be Giant Ojousama but it should be Oni-Deka or Daikousha Nagi, although I didn't get any vibes of yuri undertones among those two manga. Giant Ojousama is just fighting against alien lifeforms, but I've never seen her fight against an alien humanoid who looks female. (Not yet because my manga progress with it is still very little)

@RippleLover Animanga industry has long been living with a slogan "be honest with your fetishes in front of the audience."

@LunyRem I did not read the manga, but I can predict that many battles between Big Chicks look like a huge Yuri Bait Fanservice. Or not?

Mar 4, 10:22 AM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert Mostly gag comedy and some ecchi shenanigans. I also haven't seen any Big Bad from the invading aliens because I've only read very little from the manga so far, and it's also quite some time ago.

Mar 4, 4:45 AM by LunyRem

That's giving it too much credit, the author's fetish isn't even remotely disguised here.

Mar 3, 3:26 PM by RippleLover

Need to hear Itou Shizuka for this. That alone would make this a 10/10 lol

Mar 3, 12:07 PM by Attackonfiller

Ah yes, another "the author's barely disguised fetish" anime

Mar 3, 9:38 AM by texasfangirl1999

@LunyRem Is there any plot or is it just Kek Gag-Comedy about the battles of giant Bishoujo?

Mar 3, 8:40 AM by RobertBobert

so basically they copied Gigant from Oku-sensei and changed here and there to make it kid friendly

Mar 3, 8:03 AM by Catalano

@RobertBobert I think that's fine for a manga such as this. Giant Ojousama manga was fun. Mindless fun. Not expecting anything groundbreaking about this adaptation, but all I wish for is that they do not butcher the character designs especially for the giantess moments. 😅

@LunyRem It seems that producers know not only about romcom, isekai, yuri and battle shonen categories, Lmao.

Hope they don't puss out on showing the panty shots but I have no confidence in that.
