Fourth Season of 'Toaru Kagaku no Railgun' Announced

A fourth season for Toaru Kagaku no Railgun (A Certain Scientific Railgun) was announced at the Dengeki Bunko New Year Super Appreciation Winter Festival Online 2025 on Monday.

Tatsuyuki Nagai (Kidou Senshi Gundam: Tekketsu no Orphans) is returning to direct the fourth season at J.C.Staff. Kiyotaka Haimura (Toaru Kagaku no Accelerator) is once again credited for the original character design.

Voice actresses Rina Satou (Akiba Meido Sensou), Satomi Arai (Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu), Aki Toyosaki (Yuru Camp△), and Kanae Itou (Sword Art Online) are reprising their roles as Mikoto Misaka, Kuroko Shirai, Kazari Uiharu, and Ruiko Saten, respectively.

The first two 24-episode anime seasons aired in Fall 2009 and Spring 2013. Geneon Universal Entertainment (now NBCUniversal Entertainment Japan) released a standalone OVA in October 2010. The Blu-ray and DVD volumes and official visual books also included OVA and special episodes.

The third and latest season, Toaru Kagaku no Railgun T (A Certain Scientific Railgun T), premiered in 25 episodes in Winter 2020 (pictured right). Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles, while Funimation (now Crunchyroll Dubs) streamed it with an English dub.

The anime series adapts Motoi Fuyukawa's action sci-fi manga, which he began in Dengeki Daioh in February 2007. Kadokawa published the 19th volume last March.

Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga in English in July 2010 and published the 19th volume on February 11. Funimation licensed the anime series in North America and released the first season on DVD in April 2013 and on Blu-ray in January 2015. The second season was distributed on DVD between July and August 2014 and on Blu-ray in January 2016. The company also released the third season on two BD and DVD volumes in March and June 2021. Crunchyroll plans to release it on Blu-ray on April 8.

@MahiaErebeaNegi I'm not against that either. I just don't expect it since they've repeatedly ignored side stories so far it'd be weird to add them back in now.

Why filler arc when they could just adapt one of the three Railgun SS LNs instead (Like the one featuring Xochitl and her magic faction)? Lol

Jailbreaker hype. NGL, I'm kinda hoping we get another anime filler arc with this season just so we could maybe get a 5th season for the Freshman arc and not have to wait for the manga to make two whole new arcs.

I love Railgun. I love ITEM. I love Accelerator Anime.

There are still complaints about Index, even though Railgun is a very mediocre and overrated product, as it is pure yuri with bad fanservice, but who cares, with people with bad taste.

Maybe its finally time for me to catch up on this extremely anodyne series. The reception of Index III ended up breaking my hype for almost anything related to it though.

Its been a few years since s3 I guess although the gap between s2 and s3 is bigger

So is this gonna be just 12 eps or anime original or do they actually have enough content for 24 eps? S3 was kinda....

And honestly I dunno like being very honest kuroko had barely any relevance in the entirety of s3 (for that matter s2) nevermind uiharu or saten

I suppose its gonna be 2026 soon so if its actually 24 eps they might catch up or something

Well, Shokuhou plays a huge role in Index NT LNs~

all i can do is pray to Kamisama they adapt that.... as well as more Index, cause i like Index more than Railgun because more female baddies

After what happened to Index III, I was fearing that JC Staff wouldn't greenlight Railgun S4 until after Index NT or an Index reboot. Though given that JC Staff seemed to consider Railgun as one of their flagship shows, this announcement was just more of a question of "when?" I suppose.

I'm glad that key members of the Railgun production staff are returning as well.
