I don't love the manga, but it's generally pretty enjoyable. I expect the same from the anime.

Astra definitely sold less than witch watch but that has more to do with it just being a short series, witch watch has been slowly dropping off each volume for a while mostly bottoming out in the 25-30K range which for jump used to be cancel tier but like i said the magazine has been dire recently.

I understand that the titles were serialized in different magazines and may be judged by different standards, but that doesn't mean Astra was more popular. It means Astra was considered a success despite its modest popularity.

I wish Shinohara luck in his current and future endeavors. I know he has promised to do no more weekly manga after Witch Watch, which leaves monthly manga as a likely possibility.

@Lucifrost Its not that they expect it to fail but its more the anime failing might signal whether the series is worth keeping like how undead unluck had a failing anime (and more importantly the manga didnt see a boost) and coincidentally the series started rushing to a conclusion right after, witch watch is in a very similar position where its not particularly selling great but a few steps above bad (exist tier) and if it doesnt get any sort of boost from this it will probably get a heads up to wrap it up even though the manga generally feels like its got another 100 some chapters left.

I'm just saying if witch watch comes out and makes no impact and the manga sells what it currently has with no change dont be surprised to see it end near the end of the year.

@JizzyHitler
I must say your claims are not at all believable. Astra was not more popular, and Witch Watch would not be getting twice the episodes of Oshi no Ko and Chainsaw Man if they expected it to fail.

@Yubisoft A fresh voice is more appealing than anything especially as the actor pool in japan is starting to feel way too samey in recent years, her voice sounds really fitting for how much of a goof Nico is.

@Lucifrost I mean to be fair witch watch is high and far the least popular thing hes done, hell its not even doing that well on its own terms its just jump i general has been in a slag for years with little to no big sellers now that it sort of was able to coast off 30K volume sales. it might be pessimistic but theres a fairly likely chance the anime wont actually make much of an impact at all.

What's with all the pessimism? Shinohara's been in the industry for years and has multiple successes under his belt.

So let me get this right. They used some of the most famous and experienced VAs for the supporting cast but they used one random singer for Nico ? What the hell is wrong with the production of this anime?

@JizzyHitler This is some kind of injustice. A dude with two wildly successful and critically acclaimed manga/anime has to worry about the success of his third work while authors with much worse writing and work ethic get much more credit.

Really hope this does well, the manga isnt the most consistent but when its funny its really funny. You can really see how the author was a assistant to gintama when its in its stride and also when he blatantly stops the series to bring it up mid chapter. I also hope it does well cause i dont want an adaption not being successful to speed up the manga ending cause its never been that well a performer and probably needs a boost from this to casually continue like it does.
