@RippleLover Could you explain this "it's literally me" more than just stating it? And thus, it turns out that you see self-insert in literally any protagonist?

@RobertBobert Almost none of the characters in my favorites are charas I actually care about, because having only 10 spaces for that is stupid, so I use the fav section purely for my NM experiment.

Nukumizu has no real personality, and picking Ayanokoji is like the worst example you could've said as he's the poster boy of ''literally me''.

An endless supply of novels and these are the ones to make it to the list...?

They had the chance to do the funniest thing with Anna and they took it.

I only read Light Novel's, so I did not know that there were different types of LN's and the books they have mentioned in this article for E.g. 7th Time loop is labeled as LN in its info page, so I got confused.

btw Thanks for the info.

Well it's basically books for teenagers and young adults with some manga illustrations on it.
Simplest way to separe them is:
has manga-like illustrations = LN
No illustrations = novel

@Temperanced

The difference being the book formats. We LN readers call them Bunkobon and Tankobon.
Bunkobon titles are usually cheaper and lower quality paper while Tankobon titles are double price and higher quality paper, sometimes with a better hard cover.
Tankobon titles are usually longer than Bunkobon titles.

Almost all LN are rom-coms and high school romance? Is the action LN losing so much popularity and recognition?

@themasterseaso @Temperanced A more readable format with a more compact edition and easier language. Also a large number of illustrations. That's why this is a LIGHT novel. Of course, the authors of “real” novels predictably consider this genre to be secondary to them, and one of the anime even used the offer to write LN for the author of the books as potentially humiliating.

@RippleLover What do you mean by “no self-insert” characters in this case? Especially considering that all of your favorite male characters are self-inserts from shonen-ish shows. Ayanokoji is too autistic for fans to easily identify with, Nukumizu has enough personality, for example.

All the male characters being self-inserts is very telling.

I maybe ignorant but.... What's the different between LN and book?

Every time I see the first place in this ranking it's always shit, pretty impressive.

LN ads some people call anime, sure did some heavy lifting. Makeine was pretty decent for the most part, so it would be able to stand on its own but Otonari was a blatant low quality ad for the LN. I'm surprised it's getting a second season. I'm even more surprised Gimai is so popular. I dropped the manga after 3 volumes and couldn't be arsed to finish the first episode of the anime.

Female Characters
*1. Shiina Mahiru (Otonari no Tenshi-sama ni Itsu no Aida ni ka Dame Ningen ni Sareteiru ken)
*2. Anna Yanami (Make Heroine ga Oosugiru!)

Once losing, always losing. Sasuga our losing heroine. 🤭

Well, at least, her series won.

Seeing Shiina Mahiru in first place makes me relieved that the community hasn't been corrupted by the degenerate shonen virus . Great news

How is this same female character number one for the last four years? Is making food and living next door really that big of a deal? Lol.

For some whatever reason, the titles that I fell asleep reading tend to win top spots in Kono Light Novel Ga Sugoi~

The LN titles that I fell asleep reading:
Angel Next Door: Enjoyed first 4 volumes, fell asleep reading volume 5.
Gimai Seikatsu: Dozing off frequently in volume 8 and 9, enjoyed first half of volume 10 though (best character Yomiuri is back)
Dahlia: I don’t even know why I force myself to read 7 volumes when I was bored since volume 1.
Secret Saint: Starts off interesting but get repetitive in volume 3. I just like Condemned Saint from Overlap more.

Maybe I should pick up 7th Time Loop.
Definitely not reading Too Many Losing Heroines, too much Chitose Is In The Ramune Bottle vibes. I dislike Saku Chitose. >_>

My taste is really different from Japanese audience. >_>

Still waiting for Eminence In Shadow volume 7. :/
