The Aniplex Online Fest 2024 event announced a new episode for the Aldnoah.Zero anime series on Monday. The episode, subtitled Ame no Danshou - The Penultimate Truth (Fragment of Rain - The Penultimate Truth), will be included in the Blu-ray Disc Box, which goes on sale on March 26, 2025.

Aldnoah.Zero emerged from a collaboration between animation studios A-1 Pictures and TROYCA. Created by Gen Urobuchi, known for his work on Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica) and Psycho-Pass, the series was designed to delve into themes of warfare, class divide, and human survival.

The sci-fi mecha anime was directed by Ei Aoki, who previously worked on Fate/Zero, bringing his expertise in blending intricate plotlines with dynamic action sequences. Alongside Urobuchi and Aoki, Katsuhiko Takayama (Tasogare Otome x Amnesia) handled the series composition, contributing to the story's layered structure and character development.

Key staff also included character designer Masako Matsumoto (Overtake!) and acclaimed composer Hiroyuki Sawano, whose powerful soundtrack became a signature element of the series.

Aldnoah.Zero aired its first season in Summer 2014, with the second second following in Winter 2015. Aniplex of America licensed the anime series in North America and simulcast it on Aniplex Channel, Hulu, Crunchyroll, and Daisuki. The company also released the title on home video.

Do they plan to revive this shit-pile of trash? Remember, kids, there is no such thing as Aldnoah Second season.

The first mecha anime i ever watched and i immediately hated it after the second season, i prefer Guilty Crown over this. 👎

This is so fucking weird. The series aired 10 years ago and now they're releasing a Blu ray with a new OVA? Well lets hope it's some sort of sequel to make expand on that ending a bit.

This show is truly an insult to mecha.

@Nachtwandler_21 I don't remember at all what it was about, but judging by the synopsis it was a typical comedy OVA. But back on topic, I hope this episode isn't as much of a filler as the re-release of Iron-Blooded Orphans, which turned out to be just the same show but with a different episode format.

@RobertBobert Yes. It was a tie-in to a nrew BD-box.

@Nachtwandler_21 Are you talking about the second “special” of 2015?

Sep 17, 4:45 AM by RobertBobert

@RobertBobert I am not talking about OVAs that came with initial BDs but about one that came 5 years later with a new BD-box. MAL has it grouped up with one of the initial OVAs for some reson.

@Nachtwandler_21 I don't know anything about Toradora, but in the case of Angel Beats, the OVA somewhat expanded the lore after the end of the original story.

There were a bunch of other examples of a series getting new OVA years aftyer it aired as a tie-in with a new BD-box. ToraDora and Angel Beats come to mind. Though, in that cases OVAs were just a pretty meh fillers, so I am not sure what to expect here.

@thebrentinator24 Apparently this is a kind of advertising campaign for the upcoming BD edition of the old show.

All these years later? Talk about unexpected lol.

second season was so bad lmao

Sep 16, 6:01 PM by olly5656

Don’t tell me that they finally realized the reason for the negative reaction to the second season and they SUDDENLY decided to gently rewrite it without directly interfering with the original content?
